I remember trying to find these to make distilled water when I first started alchemy. It's pretty hilarious now that I remember trying to mine to find this item.

Every thing you need to know. First you need the "say it with flowers" quest to get this and by going to the Rihnostery first you don't have to wait between gatherings if there is a timer. Second it is a rare/ex so it's not in the AH and you can only have one at a time. If you're getting this for alcheme starter synth then i recomend bringing 3 stacks of lightning crystals with you and doing synth there because as soon as you use the one you can get another. These are dropped by "talking" to the targetable Tahrongi Cactus in Tahrongi Canyon (F-6); it's inside the ring of mountians. And yes the quest is repeatable. Also as there a bee's near by you can farm them for chips to make bee's wax (Fire: water+chip(x3) i think)

I was wondering...if you did want to do the water synth and you did start the quest.. could you pick up the rare/ex, do the synth and pick up another cactus flower? Or do you have to repeat the quest to get another cactus flower? Or is it really on a timer so you'd have to wait x hours to get another one..If anyone finds out, enlighten us. ^^ Though it would be a shame to not be able to complete your quest, so be sure to turn the first one in. I'll try it later and reply.
Yes, it is cheaper to get the water from a vendor and plenty sell it. However, if you are like me and hunt lightning elementals (and others when bored waiting for a party) for clusters from Konschtat Highlands, La Theine, and Tahrongi; then cost of synthesis should not be a factor. Wind elementals spawn south of the cactus (F-6) and we all know wind is highly in demand. Also if you are like me and had alchemy at zero, this is a fast skill up to 2 with about 3 clusters; yeah yeah the cost but hey I can make up the loss farming quickly and besides goblins there and bees drop items I use to sythn or desythn.
I want someone else to confirm my suspicion but I could not get a Tahrongi Cactus if I didnt have the quest Say it with Flowers activated. Can someone confirm my suspicion? If that is the case then you can't get the cactus to make distilled water without activating the quest but dont complete it. The quest is repeatable for the gil so I am assuming this is a pre-requiste to pick the cactus.

where in the world is this little item in the ah? i kind of imagine it'll be a bit expensive but how is there no place fer it on the ah?

If u go to the canyon towards the mountain zone there are rocks in a circle formation. In the center of the circle is the cactus. If u haven't got the quest from windy it will say something like "This flower has poisionous buds" and u can't pick it. If u have gotten the quest u can pick it. During the quest if u describe the flower correctly you don't have to wait 12 hours. Just go get the cactus. I did the quest then went back to try to get some cactus for alchemy but i couldn't. Don't know if u have to get the quest again or not, is it even repeatable?
i finished the quest then i see the alchemy desyn. here. i wanted to make animal glue and decided to lvl up my alchemy skills to lvl 2 before making one. bought 2 stacks of lighning crystals and went to the cactus to find that without the quest, i can't get it.

Hi, why did they make a hard to get item as a base for alchemy guild item synthesis? I mean most of the alchemy guild recepies have to have one or more distilled waters in them and to make that you have to get a hard item which is the cactus and this is so far away from Bastok where the alchemist guild is? so maybe you can buy it from AHs but this will make it so expensive to make such a simple item and which is at the lowest level of skill ranks for the guild? is there a chance that they might introduce new ways to make distilled water for a bit cheaper in future updates?

distilled water is not just in Jeuno or AH, it's available in every town for 12 gil each. so, you can pay 500 or more for a stack at AH, or 144/stack at any NPC that sells it, and there are a lot. Of course, you CAN make money this way (buy from NPC and sell on AH)

You can buy distilled water for 11-15 gil a pop at any restaurant or inn in Bastok. Even one close to the Alchemy guild in the mines region. It is located on the second floor and it is an inn.

I looked for the cactus but couldn't find it anyone have the corrds for it?

In Windurst Waters, from a Taru named Moari-Kaaori, you get a quest involving the Cactii. If your fame is high enough he will ask you to bring him a flower which is the cactus. After you get the quest go to the Rhinostery, talk to Ohbiru-Dohbiru and describe the flower to him. He tells you to go to Tahrongi Canyon and pick it. I've tried to pick it before I got the quest and couldn't. But was able to grab it after I got the quest. May be coincidence, may not be..
I heard about the quest and tried to pick it, no go.
Then I went and got the quest and went back and could pick it.

first get quest, go to rhinosary and get red rose, the give rose to Moari-Kaaori, then after like 12 game hours come back and he will say it was wrong flower. Now you can either go to canyon and get cactus already and trade him. Or go back to rhinosary and talk about where to get the cactus then trade him. Up to u.

Yup. There's a targetable cactus in the NW area of Tahrongi Canyon which yeilds the Tahrongi Cactus.
I was able to get one, but then no-one else in the party I was in could, so I'm guessing it's on a spawn timer.

I would guess in Tahrongi Canyon near Windurst.. though haven't heard of anyone talking about an item like this dropping. I have heard, however, there is a targetable cactus somewhere that maybe you can chop a part off of? I've not been able to get near Windurst myself starting in Bastok, but plan to soon as I am presently questing for my chocobo license.
Anyway, can anyone confirm something?
