Not having quite gotten to 75 thf myself yet, I would assume this might be much like warrior's charge for war's and more noticeable on a single-hit ws (like Steel Cyclone for war's). In this instance I'm thinking of AC(+SA+TA)+True Strike.
But then maybe this is already commonly accepted, I haven't read the thf forums about the ability yet.

And no it doesn't start 1 + 2 + 3...
Category II merits are as follows:
3 merit points for the first skill point
4 merit points for the second skill point
5 merit points for the third skill point
making for assassin's charge a total of a 10 minute timer.
And I really hope that there aren't any more people that think this move will triple your next attacks total damage.

thus 1+2+3=6 so you have spent 6 points by time you upgrade it the 3rd time.

You can only merit Assassins Charge 3 times. That goes for all other Category 2 abilities.

Assassin's Charge gaurantees you a 100% triple attack on your first hit of your weapon skill if your weapon skill is ranging from 2-5(6?) hits. It doesn't gaurantee to make every hit have the effect of triple attack, because if it did it would overpower thieves if they criticalled on every hit, which is possible during a weapon skill, but very unlikely to happen.

IT DOES NOT TRIPLE ATTACK YOUR WS'S! stupid SE! trust me you'd be hitting for 3k or so with it if it did triple your WS! I hit for 900+ with WS's and i have yet to see 1 time me hit with assassins charge and hit for 3k or so not one time!
wow... ok first off a triple attack on your WS won't put your damage to 3k if your normal WS damage is 900-1400.
At best, it will give you an extra 300 damage ... AT BEST
and secondly... dude you must be living under a rock. It's been proven that yes it stacks with a weapon skill. AC+SA+TA+WS = do-able
don't expect it to double your WS damage though, it's just 3 more hits that are slightly modified by your WS the same way your offhand dagger gets modified as /nin.

A lot of people have made this mistake I've seen... this JA doesn't triple damage, it makes your Triple Attack job trait proc on the next attack. Therefor on your WS, the first hit I guess? would be a gauranteed triple attack. I don't exactly know the mechanics of Triple Attack and THF WS but if it acts how I'm thinking, it should boost damage a little.
The new abilities aren't exactly supposed to make us uber, they're just supposed to make us specialize ourselves and give us more options for playing our job. Sure, 15 minute recast triple attack is nothing, but none of the job abilities are without being upgraded 2 or 3 times. That makes you pick and choose which ones you want and take them to Lv2 or 3 preferrably. With that, its 10 minute recast, and that's enough to use for an event and not to be too overpowered in merit parties.

Boo to you for not thinking. How is having the ability to instantly ramp-up the dmg on a WS a bad thing? That's right, it isn't.

I would think that being able to guarantee 3 hits would be great to increase your TP gain for your up comming WS or SATA+WS or AC+WS or whatever WS+(?)combo you're planning. That's where a Thf's Damage counts!

the BIG question is, will it triple a weapon skill? I would assume it wouldn't, but all us thieves should pray it does
Yes, it does Triple Attack your WS's, I've used it many times.
