At 63 with no mp refresh gear on carbuncle costs me 7mp per tick. Taking into account the +1mp/tick auto-refresh passive job ability we enjoy as level 25 or higher summoner technically carbuncle is 8mp per tick but to eliminate confusion I'll just say at level 63 carby costs 7mp/tick since this is what you'll see.
At some point from level 61 to 63 carbuncle upkeep cost increased. I was level 61 two days ago and I was able to keep carbuncle out while gaining +1mp/tick due to light staff, carby mitts, and vermillion cloak. Today I went farming and noticed my mp wasn't increasing anymore with carbuncle out. The only thing that changed was my level. Unfortunately I didn't do any farming at level 62 so I'm not sure when upkeep changed (level 62 or 63).
carby mitts: upkeep is halved
light staff: -2mp/tick upkeep cost
vermillion cloak: refresh +1mp/tick
carby cost at 63: 7mp/tick
trying different combinations of my equipment I found that carby mitts bonus is figured in first. 7/2 = 3.5 and happily for us they round down to 3. so with carby mitts the upkeep cost drops from 7 to 3. Adding light staff the cost drops another 2 so now we are at 1mp upkeep. Adding the vermillion cloak the cost goes to 0.
I don't have an HQ light staff but I'll borrow one to test and post my results.

Actually, the mitts reduce perpetuation cost by four, not half it. Although in this case there is no difference, as four happens to be half of the cost.
ok im new to the smn job. How do I get Searing Light? What lv is it? Or how do I get it?

Searing Light is Carby's 2 hour....when you use Astral Flow, Searing Light will appear in the Blood Pact Ability.

I just finished playing summoner... it's a 20-25 second recast. Reuse is NOT instant, nor is cast.
I have a summoner up to lvl 9 right now, and the recast time is not instant. I forget what it is, but it's at least 10 I think.

I think the new detail about it is that the recast time is instant. This could be good for lvling summon skill. ^^
casting time is still 5 or 7 I think

Is this right, carby really has no casting time anymore?!?!?! If so this could totally change the advatar lvl 20 min fork battles!
