There are 5 groups around the Radio transceiver. One of them is nothing but a cluster of small, fast, insignificant but annoying fighters. Try to circle around the area until you can isolate one of the groups and take them out. if they join up you are toast, and Starfleet will be beaming you home to momma in a pail.
