- Starting the Quest in Bastok:
Virnage: I am Virnage, a friar from the San d'Orian Cathedral. Coming to bastok is part of my pilgrimage. I was to return to San d'Oria after praying to the crag of Dem.... But I have seen something horrible here that demanded that I stay. The statue of the Goddess in the Metalworks--yes, it's placement is deplorable, to-its paint peeling off. I cannot believe that no one here noticed! That statues paint is specifically made to endure the rigors of time! It is supposed to last dozens of years. Ah, but there is hope. I once read an account of friars carrying off a batch of paint with them as they saught a place of safety during the Great War. They stayed in a citadel on the Sauromugue Champaign. This paint may be there still! I have heard people here say you are a great adventurer. Please help the Goddess in her hour of need.
You retrieved a bucket of Divine Paint from beneath the rubble.
- Return to Bastok and talk to Virnage: Ah! You've found the bucket of Divine Paint! May the Goddess bless your soul. I would like to repay you for your deeds, but I have nothing to give you at the moment. Here, I will give you this letter. Bring it to Eperdur in the San d'Orian Cathedral. I am sure he will give you a reward. May the gates of paradise open for you.
Virnage in the Bastok Mines sends you to Garliage Citadel to search for a bucket of paint. On the first level of the Citadel, search for the ??? around G-8 or H-8. It is usually hidden near a large rock. Examine it to get the paint. Return the paint to Virnage, who then sends you to Eperdur in San d'Oria to get a scroll of Teleport-Dem.
