Wanted this badly for my BRD so I went to farm it as 34 RDM/BLM. I think I killed him 4-5 times and no drop. Gave up, leveled THF to 16 and went back one day as RDM/THF and got monster signa the first time it popped.
There seem to be a lot of people around Giddeus doing whatever and exp parties also. Competition! My tactic was to keep the entire pop area clean of all mobs the entire time so nobody else would even bother to come there. Worked well and earned me quite a few beehive chips and yagudo necklaces. Also got a Foe Lullaby for my BRD from Yagudo Piper.
There seem to be a lot of people around Giddeus doing whatever and exp parties also. Competition! My tactic was to keep the entire pop area clean of all mobs the entire time so nobody else would even bother to come there. Worked well and earned me quite a few beehive chips and yagudo necklaces. just got the signa going 1/3 on him as PLD62/THF25...while farming those damn yag necklaces for norg fame for my nin scrolls...not bad in my opinion as i want it for my BST and BRD which are still in the dunes /sigh
not worth much though anymore as its only going for 40k atm on Gilgamesh server, and yeah Funkie the second time he was on the lower part but only just as i ran towords him he popped back up onto top part of map so i think he just stepped off slightly >.<

Got this after about 40 claims Xo sold alot of mitts and made good gil too. Camp this guy if you need cash. Spawned on lower part of map... Never seen him there before but i dont care cuz i got the staff!!! Happy Hunting

The Mendicant on the south side was the ph for sure as i killed him about 6 times then wham! NM pops right when the Mendicant PH should of. My first try at this NM. No drop x.x but thats ok, ive only camped him once. I will try again soon.

I've sold about 10 of these and all of them have ranged from 800k-70k in the current loleconomy. I've killed mjuu about 85-90 times to date and only seen the 10 signas... He has a horrible drop rate.
Well , I was being pretty fussy about level sync parties, turning down any that were more than 5 levels below my current level, and since I knew this would mean waiting longer for exp, decided to camp this

this is the first NM i've ever tried to actually camp. (i've killed leaping lizzy a few times and jaggedy ear'd jack a few times in passing to zones) the first time i didn't know what i was doing at all and i just killed all the yagudo's over and over again. no one else camping so i got the pop about 45 min after doing all this. i got some random pair of mitts, zealot or something like that. so i gave up for the day cause i had to go and didn't want to wait a long time before it popped again. next i asked my ls and did some research on this site so i knew to only kill mendecant place holders. after 30 min hoo mjuu popped and i claimed with steal ahead of a whm. killed him quickly and POP i got the signa! my first ever NM item!!!!!

I just recently decided to camp this guy and within about 3 hrs of camping im 1/2 on the signa but i was wondering if any one could tell me the PH method to him im a rng 28/nin 14 and it would speed up spawn time if i knew just which ones to kill. thank you.
I just got this about 2 minutes ago, was campin for a bird whistle and figured while i was waiting for repops Id camp the signa as well, I was out here for about 3-4 hours and he popped 3 times, I got claim all 3 times and I am now 1/3!!! ^^ Now to get 2 more lvls on bst so I can use this... lol

Edit: OK in the last two days I'm 0/12 and I'm about to give up and just buy one ...This is just ridiculous.

Just killed this NM after camping for ~1hour zealot's mitts dropped tho
There were 2 medicients popping i kept killing em both.

I used to camp this bugger a lot back in the day. It has been said that the Mendicant that spawns lower on Wide Scan is the placeholder. I stopped camping him actively before I leveled Ranger, and have not bothered to verify that information. I will however share the little I remember, although some or all of it may have changed since those days. This information is provided as a courtesy and is accurate to my knowledge. If it no longer is so, I apologize, there'll be no need to flame me.
As is common knowledge, this NM has 1 placeholder, which is a Yagudo Mendicant. And they have a respawn of about 8 minutes.
So how do you know which one it is, aside from using Wide Scan and following the "second Mendicant" theory?
Every Mendicant has a spawn time of precisely 3 hours and 20 minutes (this is Vana'diel time, not Earth time). That means, that if you take the time down when a Mendicant dies, it will respawn at precisely 3h20m later, game time. This is what "about 8 minutes" means.
What's important to note, is that the NM follows the same 3'20 pop rule. This means, that if you witness the NM's death, either by you or someone else who claimed it, you can start counting 3'20 from that precise moment, and the Mendicant that pops on the 3'20 is the placeholder. Kill it, and start counting again. The next 3'20 is once again the placeholder. Starting from about 50 minutes later, any of the 3'20 placeholder pops can be the NM.
So long as you keep an eye on the other two Mendicants, you're golden. Back when I camped it, window opened at around 50+ minutes. I never had to wait 2-3 hours for a pop. Maybe they've changed that.
All you need to do is to be aware of whether the other two Mendicants are dead or not, and if they died, when that approximately was, so you don't confuse yourself with all the Mendicants running around. The other two Mendicants don't have to be killed, and I personally didn't, since I usually knew which one the placeholder was. This way if competition showed up, they had to figure it out for themselves.
I used two convenient macros when hunting Hoo Mjuu:
ALT-1: claim macro. I used /ja "Provoke" <t> for this. I have also used /follow <t> on the second line after the provoke, and filled the rest of the lines with provoke, but I don't like this as much as it seemed to occasionally interfere with my running towards the NM and voking it "manually".
ALT-2: /clock. Simply, this made a lot easier for me to keep up with what time it is IN GAME. Once I determined the placeholder and killed it, I instantly hit my clock macro to note the time, then in my head I just added 3 hours and 20 minutes to it, and remembered that time. Then I hit the clock macro occasionally, and once I got within 10 seconds I went into 3rd person view and kept an eye out for pop, since I didn't have Wide Scan available to me at the time.
Using this method is obviously for the patient, but then that's how it is with all NMs, really. I made a decent chunk of gil with the Signa drop back in the day. It's cheaper now, but still worth camping if you ask me. If you have the patience for the low drop rate, which I no longer do.
This method is also convenient because you know when it pops, so you dont have to stand there watching every mob. You can run off to nearby areas and farm yagudos and bees there for drops to sell or trade for Norg fame. However I suggest you don't kill all the yagudos in the immediate NM pop area, just to throw off possible competition. Good luck.

great tip thanks ;) 1 drop zealot, 2 deoderize. Still no Signa but eventually ^^
ive been camping him for 5 hours now. first pop took 2 1/2 hours, it was me and 2 lvl 75 paladins, i flee'd and voked before them, didnt get the signa just zealot's mitts. i used my 2 hour after i killed it as a timer, then logged in about an hour after the first pop, then killed random yagudos for a half hour and it popped again just now.. just a scroll of deodorize this time)

i agree with Deyessorc 100% there is no way to make the drop easyier im 1/1 on this mob and after i see the drop i dont go making theorys up about ways you can make a slight difference in the drop rate yes deal with it its a lucky drop so stop giving people false hope its annoying.

Just starting playing again a little over a week and a half ago, and was chilling in Giddeus waiting on my bro and friend to arrive to kill the dragon so I could get Rank 3, and got claim 2 times, Monster Signa dropped on the second kill. Got claim with voke on my 30WAR, think there was maybe 2 other people camping it, a 75BLU and a 55THF.

I don’t share the complaint about the drop rate of the Monster Signa, its fine. I do have a problem with the value of this item. Hoo Mjuu the Torrent is a relatively easy kill for even lower level players (not that they have a chance against the 65+ players there killing him). This guy has got to be one of the most heavily camped NM in the game and this particular drop is used by only a small group of players. Changing his spawn rate will do nothing more then make this item more expensive at the Auction House. I suggest they make Signa an exclusive item, if they need game balance change the Aspir Knife or the Parana Shield that drop in the same area to normal items. I’m sure both of these will attract less attention then the Signa. Just one Bards opinion (Who has still not got the drop). 4 for 4 on Cuffs after a week of trying, I’m so sick of Giddeus, but I’ll be back today!

i went to camp this guy as a lvl 25 brd so i am killing the yagudo's and then he pop's. i claim him with luluby and then i cast pae on me to get more health then i got full HP and MP i attack him with minuet and madrigal on i get him to about 20% health then he uses bendiction. he gets me to 30 health when a lvl 75 whm walks up to me and he see's me dieing. /laugh. and he lets me die. ; ; then i die. then he kills Hoo Mjuu and gets the signia ; ; but he raised me then i went to windy and changed to 37 drg and right when i get back he pops and then i got the claim i was drg/whm so i could healmyself and i kill him and it drop's!!!!!! i am 1/16 ; ; oh well lol

what a ******* white mage ***** ^^; tell everyone in my ls
So i was expin in giddeus. I like to solo as drg, it's a little more interactive than some pts are O.O... Anyway mjuu pops and i jump em. I slowly start to lose ground hp wise and start spammin my <hpp> macro. I get to 33% and before i use spirit surge stay there. Spamming dia with my 106 mp pool from rolanberry pie i manage to stay up. OH NO SILENCE! Yes, no more dia healing for me! I use spirit surge and go to almost full hp, over 100 tp and get a fresh jump. Finally he falls.. I look at the loot expecting mitts or magic and see the signa. Very happy with my drg adventure!
