I randomly found this during a quest for Sandoria. I had just hit level 45 on my thief. I had no idea what it was but figured, what the hey, so I traded it a Little Worm. It popped, I killed it no sweat, no shadows, HP almost full when it ended. I mugged over 400 gil. It dropped another 700-some, as well as 2 gold beast coins.

[]yeah pretty much. you can trade it once a day. but even if you get the pop the first time the level you get is the level of the last person who spawned it but it has to be your spawn or it will despawn.[/]

My friend Nadari fought this today at the holla point. He MUST HAVE NOT got a lv70+ 1 b/c he killed it on his lv59whm >.>;. ne ways it dropped like a k of gil, not bad guess ^^
Just walk around the crags. I believe all 3 crags have one of these guys. You will run across a ???. Examine it and it will tell you how far under the ground the voice is coming from. The closer it is to the surface the more it has been traded to.
You can trade it almost anything but you can only trade once a day.
The only thing I'm not sure of is if the more you trade when you can trade if that makes it come closer to the surface faster.
The problem with this guy is his lvl is based on the average lvl of the people who have been trading items to the ???.
So if it's been lvl 70+s all day you will get a mob around lvl 70.

were those this mob pop. and can you trade anything to make it pop?
My wife and I popped this thing while bored one day. Usually we can take them but there musta been a lot of high lvls trading things this time.
It pops, and we are getting beat pretty bad. So I say ***** it and teleport-holla. I didn't think anything about it until the teleport got off and then it hit me. We popped him in holla, so no big deal cause a teleport is the same as zoning, right? Wrong. Next thing we know he's bum rushing the stairs to kill us, so I teleport again after taking a little more damage. So I decide to go back to check it out and it happens that he killed everyone that was sitting at the telepoint, lol, I feel bad cause I didn't mean for it to happen. But it's also not like I did it on purpose.

So me and two of my LS friends were farming in Castle Zvhal Bailies untill the drop rates and Coffer-picking THFs became ridiculus, so we decided to leave the place for good. I {Teleport-Holla} us out of there, and as soon as we land on the Gate Crystal, we notice the ???. We rushed to trade items to it(I traded a stack of earth crystals), but the Goblin didnt pop. Luckily, it was about 18:00 game time, and you can trade items to the ??? every new gameday. So we wait for a couple of minutes untill a new gameday comes, and trade items again. Goblin pops, and is dead in a matter of like 10 seconds, meaning it was one of the lower level ones. Droped a Beastcoin and a Earth Crystal.
I been fighting him on a fairly regular basis these past 2 months . 5k gil pop item (Marron GLace) for a 15-20k Drop . One day this past week , i went with my Friend Insaneclown (i was 65WHM , he was 50BLM) . I traded the glace to the ??? even tho it wasnt exactly near the surface (found it to be 50/50 that trading Pop items when close - near the surface will pop him if he isnt extremely close) , he didnt pop . Before i could tell Insane what i did , he traded a MElon Pie+1 , and outr come the Muther Gobbie . Clown died in 3 hits before i could do anything (damn Double Attack) i managed to Keep my self for about 2 minutes with him hitting me for 150-180 each hit (we are both taru) .
Long story short :
I have found that Sweets such as Pie , cookies , Dessert type items , cause him to pop . If you want a challenge tho , use a HQ item to get the LV70+ NM . I havent beaten the Hi LV yet , but since the Lo LV NMs only drop gil and a beast coin everytime , i would guess the Hi LV dropps the good ******* .

Man I almost crap my self when it poped.
Never expected it to pop.
Anyway started hitting it decided to nuke it cast holy and baish II on it and killed it.I'm guess its about the same lvl as the gob in the dunes.
For my trobule I got a gold beast coin and 1k of gil XD

Fought this guy today, i must have got the 70+ version @_@; it was me BLM63, going to Bibiki for an invite, so i saw the ??? and was like "ill give it a shot" traded a lvl 19 katana, and it poped, and i was like, oh ****, cause i never fought him before, he was hitting me for 160+ with double attacks, a nice WHM75 was spamming Cure IV and V on me to keep me alive, while i casted flood for 1073, stonega III for 778, thundaga II for 684 and Fire III for 500, Manafont'ed, then flare for 1,134 ftw, got 2 gold beast coins, and like 1.5k gil from him, i gave the WHM a gold coin for thanks, and i got a cool 140 exp from it :)

I killed this today in Konschtat Highlands. I first saw the ??? in La Theine, went back to get some friends - came back and it was gone. We tried Tahrongi, no luck, but it was in Konschtat. There was four of us, decent lvls, but somehow it ended up being a ton of people. 45 WHM, 47 WHM, 61 PLD, 58 BLM, DRK 66, BRD 70, BLM 70 (?). We *all* had to trade to get it to spawn, and when it did fight was over in a few seconds. No frag bomb, must have been the lvl 30 spawn. Dropped three gold beastcoins, goblin chocolate, and rusty bolt case.

I've killed him 2 times now, once I was in a Coffer hunt party and I teled everyone to holla and we saw it close to the surface so we poped it. Easy kill, but that might have been because we had a few 75s in pt ^^; He dropped 2 Gold beastcoins. Then, today I camped the ??? a few times and poped him with some insect paste (I cook that stuff so its dirt cheap to me) I was 53WHM/BLM and he was a pretty easy kill, maybe like a lvl 40 mob or so. Dropped 1 beast coin and 1k gill. ^_^v I am so lucky it wasnt any higher lvl mob XD
lucky guys... i got my *** handed to me at THF52. my guess was he around level 50, as he was hitting for as much as gobs that level do. 80 regular, 120+ crits.

i fought this guy 5 times now, smoked his *** 4 tims as 59 thf with sidewinder @ 300 tp
i have made 9 gold beastcoins and a pickaxe, bag of poison flower. <all 4 sucessful battles>
the one time i lost he hit me for over 120 dmg a shot @ 58 thf.
he does range in between, i would say lvl 20ish and 75, but is random.
i have a secret to pop this little sucker 2-3 times in a few hours, i love it my new found gil.
will have a scorp harness no time at all ^^

In my opinion there are 2 forms of this goblin, a level 30 one and a level 75 one, but I could be wrong. I have fought him on several occasions and he always seemed to be the same strength, {too weak} for me at about lvl 40. Then at lvl 50 I went about the usual process and he pwned me, and a few other people with me. I was in complete disbelief, how did he get so powerful?! Well just yesterday, as a red mage 75 I decided its time for a rematch. I trade an echo drop with no buffs on and he pops. He hits me for 90 damage! All right its the strong one, lets roll *****!!! I buff up and start killing it. With just phalanx on he hit me for 40ish, I started laying waste to him though. I readied Savage Blade for the finishing blow!! But suddenly... he readies a "Frag Bomb". I jump into the air to begin my savage blade and he tosses the bomb at me. The bomb hits me for 1400 damage (no barfire I had no idea he had this special move) and we kill eachother at the exact same moment. Ridiculously strong bomb, I wonder if I would have survived with barfire. It should be noted I have fire-10 from genbu shield. Anyway.... good luck to all of you who end up fighting this ****, maybe stun will stop that bomb >.> RDM/DRK my next try....
I popped this guy today with a bunch of treant bulbs. I had 300% TP saved from farming, so I nailed him with a 900+ raging fists which took about 65% his health, and then whacked him a few times more for an easy win. He hit me twice for 30 each time, I guess i'm lucky I got a weaker version.
He dropped around 1600 gil, and 2 gold beastcoins which was a great addition to my farming, and I got a cool screenshot of me smacking him in the nose (b'.')b

When you say you popped him, do you mean he's a force pop? If so, how do you pop him? Where do you pop him?
I and my friend were on our subs (him a NIN, me a WAR) on our way to Valkurm dunes to make a party. We get a Tele-Holla and hop down to make the run (we were level 15). This group of people standing there asks me "hey, can you trade a couple items to this ??? ?"
Now I didn't know exactly what it was but I had seen several months before a 72 RDM fighting this "Goblin Archaeologist". He was doing fine and then WHAM the bomb hit him for 3,000 damage, blowing up the goblin as well. I kinda stood there for a bit.....then moved on, as the RDM HPed.
So I was thinking "??? point... Goblin.... near a crag.... killed 72 rdm..." and I tell these guys no way. They start pleading with me, and telling me things like "no it's just for a quest, we figured you could use it more than we could" and "it gives you a good bit of gil". Yeah no thanks guys, spawn your own gob, take your own risk.
Just because someone's level 15 at the moment doesn't mean they haven't been playing almost two years! Low lvl does not equal n00b!

a lvl 75 WHM, 73 BLM, and me barely killed this guy, nice drops tho, i was happy. kinda creepy tho, yellign at me for items
I killed this thing 50+ times. I guess I'm obsessed by him. I started popping him as a 40 taru whm. I hit 59 the other day. The fun is that you never know what your going to get. I sometimes almost one-shot him with banish 2 or a 300 TP staff weaponskill and sometimes it's just not to kill. Had some fights where he went straight through blink & stoneskin hitting me for 350 plus. It is a lot of fun. Now with a few stacks of golden beastcoins in my MH I guess I better start leveling goldsmithing.

so i'm willin to say he starts at a lvl a gets harder the more you yourself fight him seems that way to me anyways

hmm i tried this guy today, you can trade more than 1 thing to it just you have to do it at the same time so the best bet if you wanna spawn it solo is to trade like 8 stacks of wooden arrows at once. but you usually gotta trade more unlss you do it after someone else has traded.
anyway there was 2 of us, it spawned at low lvl, after trading 4 stacks of wooden arrows but i think there was someone else campin it to as it was close to surface. [probably that same someone who stole it from us when we had traded a bunch of stuff before] i killed it in about 1 minute at lvl 53 with a 40 something bard. and it droped 1 gold beastcoin and about 500 gill each. fun nm to do once but dont think ill make any serious profit from it.
tips tho all members of a pt should trade stuff at the same time near the end of a game day so if it doesnt spawn you can trade again quickly 'wise you risk someone running up and stealing it!

Ive faught this NM many times in Konschtat Highlands, La Theine Plateau, and Tahrongi Canyon. Ive spawned him many times where i could kill him in 2 hits and ther where it took 10 hits, one unlucky time i spawned him and he killed me in a few hits.. i was only lvl 60 at the time. ive gotten 2 stacks of gold beastcoins from him so far a few Arrowwood Lumber some Chocobo Feathers, Copper Ore,Goblin Chocolate and an Old Quiver and a Rusty Bolt Case. Its also a pain to spawn this NM solo you can only tarde one item per person each game day (1 hour)

It's strange how this guys levels jump about. One day he'll pop and be incredibly weak, another day he'll pop, and be able to whoop your arss without so much as a hello. Myself and a lvl 32 Paladin that was in Konschat spawned him about a week ago, and we took him down together without any problem at all, he dropped 2 Gold Beastcoins too, so it was well worth it I'd say.
