General InformationLottery spawn of the Damselflies that spawn from (D-8) through (F-8) in Valkurm Dunes PH Info from SmokesalotThe PH is the mob the prevents the NM from spawning until it is killed. In the case of the Valkurm Emperor, it is one of the Damselflies that roams about Whitesands beach in Valkurm Dunes. What a kagillion people refuse to take into their minds is that VE has ONE placeholder, and that's it. Go to the beach with Widescan ability, and position yourself at the peak of the sandhill just northwest of the pack of trees in the middle of the beach. Pull up WS, and you'll see something like this. Damselfly Goblin Mugger Goblin Leecher Goblin Gambler Sniper Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly<~~~~~PH!!! This is a truncated list, but as you can see the PH is located in the set of four Damselflies between the leeches and the snipers, and is always the top one. These flies are always grouped in four, and are always located between the snipers and the thread leeches. When VE pops your list will look like this... Sniper Sniper Sniper Damselfly Damselfly Damselfly Valkurm Emperor Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech Thread Leech VE always pops on the bottom of the list. If there aren't four flies in the list, that means someone else is killing them. Either nearby parties, or other campers. If this is happening, you have to figure out a way to nab yourself the PH, and be 100% sure that the fly you kill is the PH. After that, go ahead and let the other campers waste their time killing the other flies. Valkurm Emperor Special Attacks

I was able to get the Hairpin in my first 10 minutes of camping the Emperor ever ^^. I feel like I've been rewarded for camping Leaping Lizzy so long before getting the boots. Anyways, we camped as a duo. 2 lvl 30 THF/RNG's were able to get to and take out the Emp fairly easy. We did use 2hrs, but we had plenty of life to spare regardless. The only annoyance was the goblins aggro'ing us and the Bogy's that would be a potentially dangerous add. 1st ten minutes I got the drop, then 2hrs 15minutes later we didnt get the drop. My Ranger is set now ^^. All I need is Genin earring.

If it helps anyone, my friend (Theif33/Ninja16) and I (WhiteMage30/BlackMage15) were able to kill this guy in a few minutes. We didn't have any trouble. ^^
Ight Before NM's (Especially the Ram's in La'Thiene) AWLAYS spawn when im on a new low level job but never on my higher ones -.- COWARDS!!!
but in anycase, after weeks and weeks of being lazy....................and broke >< i decided to go really hunt my very first nm (Excluding Spook)
So I grabbed two of my ls members w/ me...about 30mins in, it spawned, some1 grabbed it....we marked down that spawn spot on map for future use...decided to wait again.....it respawned in about *1 hour*...our friend used his VE macro call when he saw it again...but again....another high level bastid got it!! The damn taru was standing EXACTLY where it spawned before it spawned....**** me off ; ;.....we gave up after that (well they did, i stayed behind).....waited another hour...it didnt respawn....hmmmm i know its also a lottery pop off the flies, but that isnt the case
i logged off....got tired....(btw im a sam45/thf15 huntin the VE) woke up next mornin, some'n told me to jes log on to FFXI....woot! guess who spawned right infront of my face? VE lol i clobbered that sob....and the emp.hairpin dropped...^^ i was a happy man....so that was 1/3 so far...
tried my luck again.....some1 else got the kill...i then left, (i then camped it a few other times later on)
overall i *killed* the VE 2/8 tries it dropped 1/2 the two times
and for those who dont know.....the respawn ranges from 1-3hours i believe.....so dont lose hope if a day has passed and it hasnt respawned yet....but i will come back for another one...i need some $$$$
the VE was MAD ez....didnt even hit me once......but i wouldnt keep the hairpin considering im level45.........the MAIN REASON is....dexterity becomes *** when u going near the 50's or 50+ (which im very close to);......u need to think more on acc bonuses if u a high level....

Guess Ill drop in my 2 cents...
Was wondering around in Valkrum trying to get a night cape as my 33 Ranger so I could sell it... No bat for about an hour so I went and killed some time with the Emperor. Spammed WS, then right when I click out of the menu, I saw a Fly with a big name appear... Bolted over to it... Voke... Meat-bob,sharpshot, barrage...512. Then Eagle eye for 613. Killed it 2 hits no drop... and noone even knew it was dead...No morale, guess ill go back and hunt it again sometime ^^

SE must have a conspiracy going against me...I plan to camp VE because i'm in dire need of money, 300k+ just for a few levels...i refuse to camp lizzy now (0/4) and whenever i don't camp him others get the boots, except for once or twice out of 9,so here i come VE, hope my luck finally turns around! I get to the dunes on a choco, riding to the camp site i notice VE on my wide scan, start tracking it then i notice a bunch of noobs shouting "VE AT <pos>!!" and other phrases that i will not write, trying to forget their stupidity as it is, i get there and someone of real high level it looks like is killing it, and they get the drop, SE must monitor my movements and i've upset them and the only way for them to get back at me is to make my life a living hell...so i've decided to take a break from ffxi, and ffxi was really the only thing i've looked forward too the past few months...now that that is gone...what am i to do? my life is now meaningless to me...
edit-tried camping him again...someone else got him...i was so close too...there has to be some other way to make money

700 HP, no two hour 0 TP at time of battle. The only 5 minute i used was Dodge. I wasn't planning on fighting it but when dollar signs fly up in front of my eyes I have to take the chance.
Killed it with 400 hp left and went home pockets emtpy oh wait.. i got an insect wing. sold it for 50Gil in AH to celebrate! go me!

Tonight was my first time camping VE. I got on and wanted to raise fame so I figured doing the boyahda moss quest thing in Selbina would be a nice start, but it's out of my way just to do that. Then I see a buddy of mine is camping VE, so I'm like, okay do the quest then camp VE for fun.
My friend had his friend helping too so we had 3 guys hunting VE. ABout an hour passes and then I see the guys macro, "Come Here Valkurum Emperor scum" and I'm like omg he better get it. Well he got it and we got the drop^^ (I'm a 32 thf by the way). This was my first time hunting VE, so 1/1 on the sucker.
Sold the pin for 370k, split 3 ways, i get like 123k, not bad at all. Now I just need another pin for my thf to keep ><. Also, if anyone is wodnering I'm on the Lakshmi server and the emp pin is selling for 400k at AH, sold mine to some guy for 370 tough.

I'm a lvl59 DRG on the Valefor server, and I've gone forever without Fluorite rings ><;. They run 50k per ring, and I also need an Assault Earring, which runs 150k. I've been camping this god forsaken mob forever, and still no drop. ; ;

Dexterity is trash on the high evasion mobs your going to be fighting soon, so you had better get sniper's rings and not flourite...

He's right, don't bother going for DEX after Lv 50, you want +Accuracy. Look into getting a Grand Knight's Lance, a Sniper Ring (or two) Coral or Merman's Gorget, Assault Earring, Life Belt, and an Amemit Mantle. You might even want to trade in the DRG AF boots for Leaping Boots, just hot-swap boots before you jump.

I just happened to be walking across the beach, testing out my new scroll of Freeze, when i was amazed to notice no one was camping him, so i decide to explore a little further. Surely enough, he was sitting pretty smack dab in the middle of the spawning point. Quickly cast stun, couple other spells....
FINALLY... after killing about 15 NM's with no drops, I got the hairpin. Good thing i didn't go to bed when I was planning ^^

I'm sick of idiots complaining about how they can't camp NMs. "OMFG!!!!1 i watied 8 bizillion hours adn teh nm stil dint show up!" Not every Notorious Monster just shows up on its set schedule. Valkurm Emperor: "Hmmm.. it's 10 am, time to spawn!" It's a random lottery spawn from a Damselfly. That means if you kill enough damselflies in the area, eventually it will spawn in one of their places. So keep this in mind while waiting "8 bizillion hours!!!1" so you don't steal someone else's emperor after they spend a lot of time killing damselflies waiting for it to spawn.

K another story. When i was out with my party in the dunes we got aggroed by gobs so we're running our butts off. all of a sudden the VE aggros me and i'm running away with goblins and the VE behind me, no high lvl person was out there. ALl of sudden critical of 90, DEAD! I was only a lvl 16 thf. Now i'm getting ready for my rematch with it. I'm lvl 34 and trying to reach lvl 40. I don't know if it's enough, but i'm going to kill it, just like i did to lizzy. dead... Kill VE Vol.2

I was camping the leaping lizzard when my NM frined walked by. He asked me if i would help him kill the valkurm empoerer. Hes a lvl 29 thf im a lvl 36whm so i said no at first bc i wanted the boots. he said if i found the pin with him he would give me his boots. so i went worst mistake ever. NO LIE!!!!!! i camped the thing 4hrs!!!!! no spawn i tell my frined that i gotta go this is not working i warp back to bastok. My friend /tells me that is spawned when i warped and he fought it ne way and died.....He dosnt like me ne more

I decided to camp this yesterday, 6-28-04, I got there and it spawned within 3 minutes. I grabbed it and got the drop. I wasn't through yet, I wanted an Aquilos Staff which runs for 800K on my server. So I wait for the second spawn, don't get it. Finally, it spawns again and I get the drop. Both haven't sold yet, but they will, =P! I went to the opposite side of those "middle" tree's each time.
um.... what's the Aquilos Staff??? i can't find it anywhere, nobody has any info on it.... as if it didn't really exist or something...
It's the HQ synth of the Water staff. It's not dropped by anything, period. He's lying, duh.

He's not lying... he didn't say that that Staff dropped. He's saying he camped the Emperor for a second spawn so that he could earn enough money to buy one.

lol what a funny lie......... its a rare item, you cant hold more than one, you didnt wait around and get two drops in a row. nice try.
