The same ranger from before recieved the drop around 3 times since my last post. I believe he said something about Windsday, but I can't bbe sure. I also believe he said it has a 2 1/2 hour spawn time, but again I'm not sure. He has a secreat, but I'm afraid I can't say it, I don't think my friend would like it very much if everyone in Leviathan figured out his secreat. Oh yeah, and he still hasn't given me any gil...but he will let me have half of the gil if I ctually help him kill it.

i found that after the last update the re-spawn time of Valkurm emperor/L.L. has changed for the better. When i was last hunting lizzy it took here about 5 mins to spawn when i got there. (dumb luck, no drop) then i said, "ah man it'll take forever for her to spawn again :(" then i went to get something to eat. I come back and BAM the second i get the she spawns, i spam my provoke macro and run twards her and, YAY i get her, (no drop). then i camped her for about 3 more hours and she spawned again. then after that it was again 15mins 15mins 15mins. then another 3 hours...you know i never did really get that drop that DAY but it was a great learning experience...

I used to be obsessed with hunting Jaggedy Earred Jack for some reason until I finally decided to come take a look here at how the Emperor works...

Where the dumb falk of a rabbit seems to only drop EXTREMELY rarely, the emp seems to drop fairly frequently...so I decided to huff it down to the dunes to take a look and see what's up.

I am there 5 minutes and the bug spawns...but I wasnt ready for it and didnt get it. What I DID learn, however, is that there are always TONS of campers on this ****...soooo if you go hunt it, bring some friends along so you can cover the whole spawning ground.

This is another tricky area tho...you want to find some people who wont ***** you over if you ever do get the drop, so create a pecking order...decide who gets the first one, who gets the second one, or whatever, before you go so that everyone understands what they're in for. Then set the item distribution to quartermaster, that way, unless the quartermaster is a ****, no one will be able to just run off with the item.

Anyways, I had a PLD/RNG and a RDM/THF helpin my THF/RNG character out. The more characters you have with Wide Scan and Treasure Hunter, the better. I swear that TH stacks...we were getting huge amounts of Damselfly Worms while we were hunting...

Once you have your party together, be prepared for a tense race. The hardest part is waiting for it to spawn the first time. After that, even if you miss it, you can set a timer because he will never come back earlier than one hour and 15 minutes after he is killed... The new update seems to have pushed that further back to 2.5-4 hours, probably in order to try and keep the item actually rare. So just come back ever hour and stay for 15-20 minutes...if he doesnt pop, go do something else...rinse, repeat.

Inbetween spawns there are other farming opportunites for you as well...hunt the Golden Bat...that is an easy 30k right there if you get the drop. Fire days also mean Fire Elementals which means Fire Clusters...2-3k each w00t!

Finally, I am a walking testimony to the uberness of this drop. I have never been so taxed while NM hunting (competing with the Japanese is not only difficult, but frustrating because of the language barrier) but it only took me 4 nights of hunting and 2 actual kills (out of 10 sightings) to get my drop. On Alexander, my server, the pin goes for around 300k right now...quickest 300k I have ever made, and I have Tamrith and Sesshomaru to thank for it! I couldnt have done it without help from friends.

OH, and on a side note, the spawning zone shown here is much too small. The fly actually spawns pretty much anywhere immediately behind Whitebone Beach.

Yes, that does it. I've given up and actually BOUGHT the Hairpin. Now Garuda has one less Emperor camper, good luck everyone~

Me (25THF/10WAR) and 2 friends (21WAR/8MNK and 51 BLM/5RNG) went on a NM hunt about a week ago, and we lost Stray Mary to another camper, got fed up with camping Leaping Lizzy, and were planning on getting the Golden Bat after this (which we did, with a drop, which I got)

So Seron (the BLM) leads us to spawn area (Thundaga-ing any mobs stupid enough to aggro the WAR or I), and told us to stay near the walls to avoid Gob aggroes (since everything aggroed WAR, Mugger/Leecher/Gambler aggroed me).

About 3 minutes after we get there, it spawns. And Seron grabs it. He starts fighting, nuking his more powerful spells. HP hits orange, and I saw '***** it!' in party mode, and Flee to the battlefield. The WAR shouts at me, but I hit the Sneak macro and manage to land a Sneak Attack for 110 damage. Emp's at a little more then a quarter.

Seron hits the red HP, and then a Provoke peels the Emp off him to the WAR. Emperor's hitting the WAR pretty hard, got him to the orange in about 4 hits, while Seron's spamming spells. Aggros back to Seron, while I'm hacking away, and Seron's HP hits 30. I hit my Provoke, and first hit on me's a critical for 45 damage. Woohoo. 407 drops to 362 fast.

I see a Thunder II pass on my screen, and the Emperor hits the floor ... err, sand.

"You find a Emperor Hairpin on the Valkurm Emperor."

Many /shouts and /cheers were passed around at that point, all three of us forgetting that we were easy targets for any Gob that spawned.

We healed, and hiked off for our next target, Seron toting his well earned Hairpin. Lots of fun, but will bring proper tank with us next time. =/

Hairpin only goes for around 200k on my server, I camped him quite a few times a few weeks back on Thf/Rng. NM are usually pretty crowded on Phoenix, Normally about 5-15 campers at Valky. I've camped him for 8 spawns total, claimed 6 of them, and got drop twice with TH2. Interstingly, a friend of mine is 3 for 6 on hairpins with only TH1. He spawns in a much larger radius than shown on the map.

I tried maybe 4-5 hours and i was unable to pull the emperor because high levels with flee were owning me. Then, couples of real days later, i got very lucky! As soon as i got off my chocobo, i saw him pop in my face! killed him and got the drop^^. I will never camp him again considering its pretty damn boring! I prefer mee deggi but you have to be atleast around level 45-50. i dont know much about notorious monsters but i know that some are funnier to wait for

My friend is a ranger and he camped in Valkurm for 5 days straight taking up around 20 hours but finally got it a few days ago and it dropped the hairpin. I just hope he shares some of the profits with me...but I doubt it.

yesterday i was helping get my friend get the hairpin, there where 10 other higher lvls searching for it..... we watched it get killed by a stupid lvl 67 paladin and it dropped, i got so mad, i spent 3 hours searching TT~TT
