Vana'diel Bestiary: Black Dragon  

This BC can be done with a minimal party. Just be sure to know the extent and capabilities of your job, and set a plan.

I just did the BC with 2 people, myself as THF/WAR and a BRD/WHM. I tanked this without the use of shihei, and for the latter half of the fight i was even cursed down to 79 HP. 2 hits and I would have died.

Here's what we did: I had the BRD immediately rush in and and Soul Voice + Lullabye the Dragon. I used my food (Roast Pipira) and a Pear au Lait. While the Eyeball was busy aggroing and binding the BRD, I used Sneak attack right away, hit it, then Provoked. I ran back to the BRD to get Mambo, then went to kill the eye. To my dismay, sleep and bloody bolts did NOT work on him. And I found myself having to tank both as the Dragon woke up many times while the BRD rested. He got lullabye off in time, although I think my HP got into red a couple times.
It took me about a minute to kill the eye, then I focused on using Sleep bolts to keep the Dragon down as BRD recovered MP. Hate bounced back and forth as we lullabyed and provoked to get our wind back. Bloody bolts were effective against him, and saved the BRD's MP. Whenever BRD got hate, I would use Sneak Attack followed immediately by a sleep bolt. I finished him off with a 300tp Fast Blade for about 200 damage.

I know everyone's not going in with THF and BRD, but hopefully my post can show you how to use skimpy jobs to overcome difficult odds.

How much exp expected for lv 20's pt of 4

Battle 1
My pt and I killed this dragon for several of our rank 3 in Bastok a couple weeks ago. Using provoke and 100 fists seems to do rather well in killing it. While having someone focus on the eye and a healer watching the pt or potions.
Battle 2
I helped someone from ls kill the windy dragon last night it was quick and easy over in seconds. Took some nice screen shots during the battle this time. For all you working on rank 3 there is a lvl 25 cap so remember that for your armor. And good luck it was fun.

Just fought these guys yesterday for the 5th or 6th time, this one was actually thrilling because we went w/ rng/nin, blm/whm, blm/whm. Was quite a fight, in the end both blm died and the rng (me) finished off the dragon w/ a couple more arrows and about 150hp. My reason for posting though is that since it took us considerably longer to finish the fight than it has the past times I've done it I was able to see 2 abilities that I had not seen before and thought I might enlighten anyone about to fight them.
Seeker used an ability called Magic Barrier, which seemed to make him completely immune to all magic, I cant saw how long it lasted because we killed him shortly after he used it (he had about 1/4HP when he used it). Also, I'm not sure which one of them used it, or even what its called, but I know that one of them used something similar to the attack that Tremor Ram does which cuts your max HP and MP in half. I never actually saw the attack but I glance at the Party box and saw one of the blm w/ about 115 HP. Other things of interest... hmm... Seeker has spikes on so be ready for that, and the dragon has something that pulls you in, but Im not sure if I would call it an ability because it seems to occur even when its asleep.

what level must your equipment be in, to not stand naked infront of the bloody dragon?

just fought this baby for the rank mission last night. easy as pie. took him down with two other people--the MNK and I 2houred while the RDM looked after our health.

A couple LS friends an myself fought this about two weeks ago. Our rdms needed to do the rank mission an we were helping since some of us had already done this once. So our pt was WHM/BLM (me), BLM/WHM, RDM/BLM, RDM/WHM, WAR/???. Our 6th RDM/WHM couldn't get in. So we fought with 5 of us. Our BLM forgot armor for the cap so he nearly died. XD (The WAR, BLM, an myself were over the lvl 25 cap.) We all ended up using our 2hrs in order to save our poor BLM. Mine of course nearly getting me killed in the process. (Stupid Bene takes too much hate.) I forget the time we cleared it but it said we had the time record for the battle on the Carbuncle server.

My friend (Malfeis 25 WAR) and I (Dashe 34 RDM) just got done duoing this beast about 2 hours ago on Sylph for the first time.

Clear time was 7 min 11 sec. Only had to use cheap food + I used 2 pineapple juices. I had to use Sleep twice on the Dragon after it woke up mid way through the battle with the Eye.

I personally made a LOT of mistakes and I DO mean a LOT! (couldn't seem to find my spells, which was recorded on my PC :( ). I guess I was just shaking in my little Taru Taru boots the entire time. I kept on using spells on the Dragon that it seemed immune to (para, slow); wasteing a lot of MP.

We could have done a LOT better if I brought a sword with me instead of just letting Malf do all the damage.

At the end of the battle it was VERY close. Malf took a lot of damage when we had the Dragon down to 1/4. When the Dragon was finally down to 1/10 of it's life, I ran in to Melee with my Yew Wand+1. Only had 9 MP left at this point. Used my last Cure spell and hoped for the best. It was dead after I hit it twice for 8 damage each.

I recently changed allegiance, so I had to fight this guy again...

I swear, we won this fight in like 15 seconds, we didn't break the record because one of the members wanted to watch the cutscene. We all summoned Leviathan, rushed in, Assault >>> Astral Flow >>> Tidal Wave, and that was it >.>

Easiest. fight. evar.

not braggin or anythin, but i did manage it at lv13 and survived...pt was me lv13WAR lv19WAR/9MNK LV20WHM/??? lv25BLM/??? lvl25RDM/??? and forgot rest...oh anotha War..forgotten now..i survived..got hit twice. but ran off for a heal ^^ just b careful if u try it!
