Thanks Man, has been bugging me for ages.
Soloed a wyvre today with 2 hydra pieces, 1 gavial hq 1 gavial nq, jelly ring and iron ram lance, the people saying this piece is garbage are morons.

Taking this for DRG only, HM > SH, and HM+1 > SH+1
If you agree / believe 1dex~.5acc, which from all I read it is. Hydra mail translates to +10.5 acc and 10.5 evasion. Though minimal, the dex is still a very tiny crit hit boost, and the agi is still a small parrying boost. The differences are minimal, and SH is probably easier to get, but on stats alone, HM > SH for DRG. (Not including the -% damage and magic damage stats on it, which make this even better.

Now more profound thx to 1 dex = 1 acc, HM > 12 acc and 3 dex, so it is atm definately 100% better than SH. And +1 equivilants

I dunno, I guess I just make it depending on what I'm into at the time, which changes often. ;)
I'm currently in the market for this armor, however on Kujata scales are still too pricey for my tastes. This body is a drg/mage's dream armor so for anyone calling this item useless needs to be quiet and learn how to have fun.

just got mine and I love it
Why does everyone say this gives less acc eva then SH...... because if anything it gives more remember 2dex=1acc agi probably works the same way so 2agi=1eva so +9 acc/eva +3 dex/agi means you're getting 10.5 acc/eva.

if you're a samurai / warrior like me who wears a scorpion harness and doubles as a sub-tank in dynamis and merit point parties (with seigan & third eye) this would probably be the best body armor you could get your hands on.
Nearly same stats as a SH but it gives damage reduction and more defense.
Hydra scales have currently dropped to 250,000 gil a piece on gilgamesh and the hydra mail is currently selling for something like 1.5 million.

idk, people say this is useless, but for the drg/whm around this seems great. 1 less acc and evasion than a SH, but damage taken is reduced, so that makes up for it. I see no negative effects to this armor, so unless you're a job other than drg, why not get this if your hnm ls can kill hydra for the scales? Just my two cents...

SH/SH+1 are better, this is just for the "wow" factor. An atempt by SE to give the jobs that 'lack' in gear something. In other words, worthless.

Simple reason why there are none sold on AH.
No one kills Hydra.
Each "good" HNM LS goes to Hydra once, to kill it, just for the fact to have killed it. Then they never get back to Hydra, because Drops suck...no one needs that SAM/DRG Equip.
PS: We killed Hydra around 2 weeks ago...and he dropped 2 Scales...so no...you heard nonsense. He does drop Scales.

I would love to have this for my PLD. Hydra Scales only drop from Hydra, so this is kind of like trying to get behemoth hides. I haven't heard of anything besides crystals dropping from Hydra so far, but they will probably change that soon.

sorry your thinking of Hydra Hauberk which is a rare/ex drop from Dynamis-Tavsvaina(sp)
