This is not gear specific. As a test last night I equipped a Fire staff and Axe grip and received the much desired +3 Str from the Axe Grip.
Now to Rng/War or Rng/Sam with a Vulcan + Hellfire + Axe Grip (^.^)y

Yea its just a grip,all grips can be used in the sub slot as long as you have a 2handed weapon equiped
