I have managed to go from 56 to 61 Gold smithing using this recipe for synthing. It seems to work for me, however i was facing West (Water) and i have a Marble Bed, Millionnaires Desk and Moghancement: Fire.
So maybe these are all factors, just a thought. They are worth bugger all though on Unicorn, maybe 5k each?

Desynth works out like so...
Crystal: Lightning
NQ: Ram Leather x1
HQ 1: Ram Leather x1
HQ 2: Mythril Ingot x1
HQ 3: Mythril Ingot x2
There might be another tier of HQ giving Ram Leather x1, whcih would push the ingots to teir 3 and 4.

I think that the level cap for this recipe is 62. After 36 successful synths on Darksday, I did not get even .1 skillup from making these.
