Quadav Stew  

After trading this guide, I attempted to steal from Bronze for about 3 hours, which is at least 20 failed attempts until I rage quit and fell asleep. Woke up next morning irl failed on 3 bronze quads, then just walked up to a silver quad and steal was successful. I didn't engage it first, just ran up to it, stole from the side of him (not in back).

I really don't think any positioning matters and everything is pure luck.

tried in rolanberry off all 4 types of quadav, got only silver beastcoins. head to beadeaux, fail every steal. i think im 0/30ish :(

currently 62war/31 thf btw, and have the quest started but haven't talked to the guy in selbina yet so ill probly try that

2nd edit: LOL after admiting defeat and leaving beadeaux, i pull one last mob for a lost steal, and of course it drops(silver quadav). so that puts me at around 1/50. if your doing this quest maybe stick with thf as main.. unless you have a 75 job perhaps

got it off bronze 1st try after 0/8 tries on garnet and silvers.

it's getting old hearing about people with these theory's on stealing.. I've played thief 3 times now, 1st lvl'd 1-75, 2nd 1-55 or 56, 3rd 1-45 (one im playing now) and i can tell you there's no SECRET to stealing, people come up with theorys on this game and it starts to spread like wildfire. first of all there's NO stat that increases your chance to steal EXCEPT the "steal +#" stat. there's no way of making the chance of stealing an item better by using some strategy like, standing behind a mob, using sa ta, using just sa, using just ta, stealing at 10% opposed to 100%, etc. etc. etc. it's not some big secret set there to confuse and annoy you, sometimes you get lucky sometimes you dont.

I used to base my living on this game from stealing back when my first thf was lvl 65, i'd go to castle oztroja, steal from a mob at 100% hp, and hide then do it again over and over for gold beastcoins, sometimes i'd have success stealing 10 times in a row every 5 mins, sometimes i'd fail 15 times in a row every 5 mins.

anyways im on my third time around with this af, first time i did it i ran into rolandberry, stole from a silver quadav, got stew 1/1, 2nd time was about 1/2 or 3, this time around i've stolen (using same method as always, just run up and steal) and so far 0/6, just came here actually to check if they changed drop or took it off these mobs, they didn't im just having a bad luck streak this time around.

anyways no secret just steal from the mob type labeled to drop this, that's all.

Got item when the mob was down 4%....

When I was 60ish Drk/Thf about a year or 2 ago, I was questing forsomething else (I forgot, it was so long ago) and had to kill one of the NM's there. For ***** and giggles I was killing randomly while there and just decided to hit steal on one of the Quads. I got this stew and didn't know what it was for. Someone said Thf AF and I never had any intentions of running Thf past a sub job level so I discarded it. Now I'm 46 Thf and smacking myself. At least now I have TH2 and all 3 "lucky items" + a millionaire's desk (Yes, I bought into the rumor). Stealing should be no problem. I don't really want the knife, but I have to finish quest before I can get the rest of the AF gear.

I just got my stew on the third try. First two times, i sleep bolted the Silver Quadav and stole from behind with no luck. 3rd time i engaged and got its HP down to around 10%, sleep bolt, got behind it and stole and got the stew.

I think low HP and stealing from behind are both important and increase your success rate considerably, i could be wrong but i would suggest trying it that way your first couple of tries, just for good luck :P

There might be something to this stealing from Bronze Quadavs thing...

I was 0/14 from stealing from Garnet, Zircon and Silver Quadavs. Then I saw this thread and tried a Bronze Quadav ftw.

Well, i hit 40 Thief Yesterday and i finally got a chance to get the knife.

I tried it first as a WHM/Thf but, i had no go. I went as THF/NIN and after four or five tries I got the Knife. Woot!

Yeay, got this in 5 tries. First three were on silvers, then I read the posts and noted the success on bronze. Got it from a bronze on second try! Yay, af1 here i come...when i finally hit 40. Did it as a 37 thf/18 nin.
