Two left feet

Basically, this may be a good way to boost your parrying and shield skills as you almost definitely won't be able to evade the attacks. As a thief, my evasion is maxed, but my shield and parry skills are somewhat low (about 60% of my evasion).

These may help when combined with a parrying knife...

Um... you need AGI for parrying. with -AGI, you're not going to parry alot. just to let you know.

+AGI giving bonuses to shield/parry has never actually been admitted by SE, where +AGI to evasion has...

What Facer was saying, though, is that when you evade an attack, it does a "evasion" skill check first. If you evade it, your evasion skill goes up. If you don't then you get a shield or parry check (I think it goes parry first). Then if you block, it levels those skills up. So, if you could skip the evasion check, you would focus more on parry/shield.

A much more effective way of leveling this up, though, is -evasion items. +/- evasion is said to affect evasion a lot more than AGI.

You don't need to evade an attack to gain evasion skill.
My BLM used to get smacked all the time, and it raised my evasion skill.

Of course, I can't use this as a thief...
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 05 2004 at 6:22 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Someone tell me wtf these are for, and stop all the ******* "Someone told me these are for..." and "I heard you can..." posts. If you wanted to raise parry/shield you would use a lot of -evasion stuff and a lot of plus agi equip, so these aren't used for that.
make fun much?

Okay, this is a cute quote..
"Moron...your a moron...wel see, your supposed to put these on, then when he appears, you CHANGE into better boots.

Think you before you talk that made you look like a HUGE moron."

1) The guy was just giving his opinion on the sitiation you dont need to flip out
2) Last time I checked when you make fun of someone you might wanna write a sentence that actually makes sense.. ex:Think you before you talk

Put them on together with some other -stat / useless items before you fight maat, and he will be easier. Since he will have the same stats as you when you enter.

(What i have heard atleast.)
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 12 2004 at 10:19 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Even if that's true it's a stupid strategy because you'll be weaker too.

yea it did actually. What he is saying is wear a lot of usless stat -'ing gear so maat will start weak, then swap in your good gear to thwump him. It does help apperently, I have a freind who used them to beat the 70 genkai.

If they sell for a good amount, then I _might_ camp Tottering Toby - otherwise I say no to this
#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 24 2004 at 10:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have no proof, but I have seen the Winged Boots that are very similar to the Leaping Boots, except they have 6 DEF for Lv. 24 whereas the Leaping Boots have 3 DEF. Which leads me to believe that these serve the purpose as an item used in crafting the Winged Boots.
RE: What they are really for.

Winged boots are made with high lvl cloth craft from leaping boots.

These have no similarity to winged/leaping boots outside of the the fact that they effect agi/dex. Look at the pictures of both of them. Leaping boots are in the style of leather highboots, these are in the style of clogs. Defferent jobs can equip them. There really isn't much similarity.
But in the spirit of keeping rumors alive, I've heard people say that they are used in a quest. I really have no reliable information on it though.
RE: What they are really for.
# Apr 09 2004 at 9:22 PM Rating: Decent
These are actually in the style of sandals, but yes, these seem like they would be the base for crafting something stronger, or perhaps part of a quest. They seem useless, even a disadvantage, for anyone to wear them
Leaping boots?
# Feb 23 2004 at 9:40 PM Rating: Default
i have a feeling this is bs, but someone on the leaping boots board claimed hese could be crafted into leaping boots ....

he said he heard ut from some jp's after a little translation ....

personally, i think its bs, i blame translation
Why they sell...
# Feb 22 2004 at 6:13 AM Rating: Decent
They sell mainly to JP players because of one reason that is rumored...

While wearing them you will actually stumble every so often...its comical and very popular with them as well...

^^ Just thought I'd clear that up.

#Anonymous, Posted: Feb 24 2004 at 10:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) no such thing as JSE its AF armor (artifact) and its all done by quests and all items for the quests are Rare EX so theres no way this could ever have anything to do with it >,<

lemme guess...your level 25 or under. There is JSE...go to a jeuno AH and look. JSE is roughly level 72 and can only be obtained by crafting or from AH

wow there are such things and JSE "Job Specific Equipment" and AF "Artifact Armor" is completely different. JSE is crafted at extremely high levels.

RE: JSE

Sorry to burst your bubble but JSE = Job Specific Equipment / Armour which is created by high level crafting.

It is different from Artifact Armour which is obtained by questing.

Please don't post information that you have no idea about.

Are you kidding? I'd wear them just for the style points.

On a more serious note, I wonder what these are used for.

Those silly stumblers.

Just a guess... Im thinking these shoes are to up evasion skill...isnt it based on how many times you get hit? EX: My evasion goes up crazy when mandragora pound on me with double attacks in Kazham. Dunno think its just to up skill but you lack hit % chance.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 20 2003 at 1:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) think they're used to make the custom boots. not sure which race

hm could be like the DRK ChaosSword -> DeathBringer upgrade thing. kill 100 beasts in 1 area and it upgrades? lol.
RE: cursed boots?
# Nov 20 2006 at 6:51 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry to say, but the Chaosbringer doesn't "Upgrade" to the Deathbringer. You obtain the Deathbringer when you finish the DRK Flag Quest.

Erm, yes it does. It upgrades when you do a quest which is identical to the DRK flag quest. That's another hundred mobs. Then you take it to Gusgen to change the lousy old chaosbringer to the spiffy new Deathbringer. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Not only that, but they sell for like 20k (!) at my AH... must be a quest item, or you can improve them through crafting to make something really good...
