what lvl do you think is good enough to go and try and get these?....lvl 18 war/monk at the moment and planing to head back to sandy when i hit lvl 20...do you think i could do this at lvl 20...i want to get these for my monk and future DRG!!
I spent some time to camp Spook today, so far no Traveler's Mantle thanks to a bot named Lonelysculpin who has been reported at least 60 times or so.. Got one Mantle for 2 days ago though. Drop rate is pretty bad, considering i'm doing this with a lvl 60 RDM, that ain't strange. :p
i must say: Being a taru pld, i take alot of junk(joke),but to get to the point... I have a pair of these. I am currently lvling up... comming to 9 so (about)5lvls and i have these, because i dont need +3 to attack.... id rather hit more and dodge more =D Dont you other pld's agree? Edit: must add, u can kill the worms around gruel spawn point for 100% flint stone drop and key/ores so 100% flint stone zinc ore (expensive on seraph) and key drop + nm spawn= good spot, and the worms by the leechers, muggers and gamblers are 100% flint stone, ext to(points above)
Actually at that level, I would recommend Bastok/Republic Mittens. Its level 15, but worth waiting the extra level.
Dont get me wrong, I have Battle Gloves for some of my DD Melee jobs, but as a Paladin, you really dont want to concern yourself with evasion too terribly much. HP and MP bonuses alongside an Attack Bonus make the above mittens (IMO) better .... especially for a Taru Pld who needs the extra HP as is.
Defense is the key for you, when it all boils down. Because you WILL get hit, and you need to be able to shake that hit off.
EDIT: Bad Grammar ><

I think you should also take race into consideration... for example taru have such low vitality, but have really good agility, so pumping up evasion to account for the lack of stamina can be a useful tactic.
Really? As a lvl 24 Pld I have EVA+20, and I'm only short about 6 Def. I'm taking mabey 1-2 more Dmg than other Plds would, yet I evade about 2/5 of the time.
I'm having a hard time getting these gloves. Getting the key is simple, but getting the chest is difficult. There's always people camping this area, trying to get the gloves when they have them already. I've been camping this place for about 4 hours now and I'm 0/3. This is so annoying -.-
I got four of these in a row by myself, along with a Traveller's Mantle and 3 stacks of bat wings.
One went to my MNK (DRK can't wear them ;.;), the other three make me 90k on Leviathan AH. Needless to say, it was a very good day for me.
A THF friend of mine (the one who got both the Traveller's mantles drops and was nice enough to give one to me) also got me Martial Slacks later on. I love Ranp's at the moment.
Pretty high success rate if you farm the key yourself. I've got 4/5 on the chests I've opened, so far. Good luck, they're well worth it if you buy them or get them yourself! Just try and have a lvl 30+ job handy so you don't get aggro and/or can farm the keys.
The chests pop in various places every 15 minutes or so; most often you can find them in the open yard near the end (not talking about the high lvl area) with all the gobs.

I was gonna ask if there's anything that can really replace these babies for me in the near future (Lv. 24 MNK), but according to these posts, I have my answer.
These are the best. I love them. Although I will get my AF gloves soon (52 to wear) these have been with me since the day I could put them on. +3 Accuracy and Evasion...I feel bad for those poor melee classes that can't wear them. A toast to you, my dear friend, who hasn't left my side in all of my adventuring days.
Moral of the story: GET THEM! You won't want to take them off.
got bored and went treasure chest hunting in King Ranpere's Tomb. Results are as follows: 5 Battle Gloves 330Gil (lol, yes that's a total out of one chest) 7 Ascetic Rings from killing worms for key 6 stacks of flint stones 2 stacks of bone chips +10 skill ups on Throwing Valor earrings from Goblin Gruel Nada from the crypt ghost 2 Travelers Mantles from Spook (2/5)
I got these without even trying when I was camping Crypt Ghost today^^ I was time and I Chi Blasted a skelly, and the chest was in Crypt Ghost's room, so I got all around lucky :)
I've had these gloves in my inventory since I was a lvl 15 RDM, and I used them for the longest time for farming. The stats are great, and I've kept them around to lvl melee jobs (THF and MNK currently). They won't be sold any time soon. ^^
On Odin, they were about 10-13K in Windurst and 9K in San d'Oria. Not sure about Bastok. By no means a terribly steep price for such a nice piece of gear, but why not just hunt for it? It's not coming from and overcamped, impossible-to-claim NM so the only thing keeping you back would be unforgivable laziness (or a lowlevel main job).
I went there with my main - level 51 PLD - and hunted for about two hours today, so as to get them for my alt. Getting the key was cake, but waiting for the chests takes a long time. I think there were at least two other people hunting them when I was there, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, the keys drop from Ambushers, Tinkerers, Butchers, Tomb Bats, Plague Bats, Rock Eaters (not Stone Eaters) and the skeletons. Most of these mobs are found deeper inside and underground, but there's a good amount of them. So, if you have a mid-level job, you might have trouble with links, so bring friends if you're not sure.
There's a really concentrated series of chest spawns in the rectangular room located on the far right of the map - you'll have to wind around underground first, then come up to the surface and curl around to the east. Of the three chests I opened, they were all in this area.
First two times were 500 gil and 800 gil. Third time was the charm. Err, gloves.
I also found Crypt Ghost down in the caverns, but he didn't drop anything. I was still excited. It's the first "NM" enemy (if he's still considered that) I've been able to claim in my time playing.
Fun times. Definitely a lot more exciting and adventurous than camping NMs.
