I personally like using the Boyahda Moss, you lose about 800 gil per stack in Asura (buy a stack for 8k, give it to him in Selbina for 7200). This doesn't including Chocobo (Crag), Teleporting and Warp II'ing fees if you're lazy like me.

I'd like to point out that it says that 0 fame is required, but it took me 10 stacks of Boyahda Moss and 2 stacks of Millioncorn to do the first 2 bags, and he won't let me do the third one. I'm hoping that getting fame for this quest will help me enough so I can get the MH Expansions (Bastok Nationality).
This was a cheap quest

Ok i did this quest no probs and it cost about 20k all the items were on the AH, and it was much quicker to buy them.

I see a lot of people suggesting that you do the Selbina fame quest to raise your fame. Just be clear, the Selbina quest essentially lowers your Norg fame about as much as the necklace or zinc quests raise your Norg fame. So if you ever wish to get Utsusemi: Ichi or any of the other Norg scrolls/quests, I'd suggest not taking the easy way out.

GM told a fellow player this information, and I have witnessed its truth.

I've turned in about 60+ stacks of cabbage and I still got the utsusemi quest. I was just in Norg the other day and my fame is still exactly the same. GMs are only people, they dont make the game, they don't know everything about it. Obviously this GM was wrong.
RE: Bad idea
# Jan 24 2005 at 8:14 PM Rating: Decent
seriously, i'd love to know what the utsusemi quest in norg has to do with the gobbie bag quests in jeuno... you'd think that people would watch where they're posting stuff to make sure that its on the correct forum...
RE: Bad idea
# Jan 31 2005 at 5:05 PM Rating: Decent
um...that wasnt off topic... people were saying things about fame...and then people suggest the selbina quest to raise it...so he was just letting people know, that doing it, as most people will to increase fame, will lower Norg fame
RE: Bad idea
# Sep 03 2004 at 8:07 AM Rating: Decent
This doesn't make sense. I never heard of fame being able to go down. Fame can only go up.

Correct. The "Blackmail" quest in Sandy will lower your Sandy fame. That is the only quest that will lower your fame in any nation. Raising fame in any nation or area will not lower it in another.

My rice ball price didn't go up after doing another 15 stacks of cabbage last night, so as far as I can see this isn't correct.

You can get the items from farming and crafting... examples

Ramskin + Dark Crystal + Tealeaves + Distilled Water = Ram Leather

Mythril can be mined and crafted.

Wool can be crafted.

The Torquoise can be crafted, but it's a lot easier just to bite the bullet and buy this one.

almost all the items for Gobbiebags are crafted ...

The goblins ask for those items so you can prove your crafting level (cause goblins are crafters and they enjoy it, I think)

good theory - i agree

the problem is, most of the items are beyond crafting levels for the level of players that do this quest. at least for the first two gobbiebags.

I suspect the truth of the matter is that they want to encourage people to go to all three nations and fully explore them. Even if you can't buy the items at the guilds, the AH value of these things depends on supply & demand in the area. I've completed the first two gobbie bag quests, and each time I scoured all the AHs I had access to, and used the guilds whenever I could. Saved me quite a bundle...

I'm in the string because I'm curious about the quest, and how and where to get the items, not about fame. There are MANY MANY MANY other strings about fame and amount of uniques vs. repeatables and which cities link with which. Please refer to those and keep this string pertaining to the quest.

I find it frustrating that I come to this section to look up for gobbibag quest, and find that it's bombarded with fame questions, in almost EVERY quest string.

Easy way to get this quest
# Feb 15 2004 at 6:05 PM Rating: Decent
Unload all your eq and max out buying La Thiene Cabbages (or millioncorn if you can purchase these) and go to Selbina (via Choco preferred). You should be able to complete the La Thiene cabbage quest with Melyon 72 times with maxed cabbages or 120 times with the corn. Each trip will allow you enough fame for 1 goobie bag upgrade. Ohh btw cabbage is usually $25 each so you almost break even cause you get $100 for 5 cabbages. Trust me, the fame is much worth the price you pay.

If you buy the cabbage in the Culinarian's Guild in Windurst, it costs 18 gil per cabbage rather than the 25 from the regional dealer. This has the happy result of at least making a profit, however small. Grin, it pays for the chocobo ride.

# Feb 21 2004 at 9:36 PM Rating: Default
The 18gil price is only if you have high Windurst fame, when I went it was up at around 38gil. Going to SanD'oria with little to no fame there, the cabbage was fixed at 25gil.
RE: Easy way to get this quest
# Feb 22 2004 at 8:57 AM Rating: Default
Sorry I want to note that the merchant who sells at 25gil with little fame is the Zulkheim merchant. So this price is based on whichever nation controls Zulkheim region. I know there's a Zulkheim merchant in Bastok. I'd assume there's one in Windurst too.

Also after running this quest 103 times, due to the San D'orian fame that I raised from that, the price went down to 24gil :) My main nation and max fame is in Bastok.

Each of the 3 major cities has a vendor from every single region (theres a list of positions in each city floating around somewhere if you look hard enough). If the nation you are currently in does not control said region, then that vendor will not offer to sell you anything (they'll say something like "if the forces in control of Gustaberg weren't so hostile, I would probably be able to import from there..."). If that country is in control, then the vendor will offer you things to buy from that region, and those prices are based on you're current fame in that country. As far as I can tell, the list of things you can buy is the same no matter who controls the region. If you want something like mhaura garlic, you must wait until one of the countries has control of Kolshoshu, go to that country, find teh Kolshoshu vendor, and buy as many garlics as you want.

Also as a note, the shop vendors in the actual shops (that have closing and opening times, such as the culinarian guild) have a limited amount of goods to sell, and when they run out, you must wait another day till they reopen. The other various full-time vendors, including the regional ones, apparently have an unlimited supply.

Repeatable Quest = more fame
# Feb 03 2004 at 11:13 AM Rating: Decent
You can check Flaco in Bastok for your fame there,
not sure about other places. (not in the game ATM. :)

Also, we realized fame will lower the prices we can buy things, and increases the offers from shop owners when we sell our wares. But...there seems to be a cap. We haven't been able to get pickaxes lower than 180, when it was steadily going down and down after doing a quest over and over.

So, my question now is, "Once we hit the price cap, are we still getting fame for repeatable quests?"

The price of a bag
# Feb 01 2004 at 11:14 PM Rating: Decent
I did the first gobby bag quest, and I was wondering, does anyone know about how much it would cost to do this one? The first one cost me about 16k, and I wanted to know what I'm looking at here before I do those last few quests in order to get it.

# Feb 02 2004 at 9:03 PM Rating: Default
when i made my purchases in Jeuno...
mythril was 6k
ram leather was 1.6k
turquoise was 12k
wool cloth 4.5k
adding up to 24.1k, btw my total for bag one was 16.2k, and also when i did the first bag, i neglected to make sure i could get the second, and now the stuff is just sitting in my bank. i havent had a chanc to get back to jeuno, but since i have been there i have gotten fame in bastok and windy. so i should think with fame in all the major cities i should be able to get it. gl

ok to update my last post, i just did gobbie bag 2, when i talked to the fame guy in jeuno he says, "Hello, <me>! I hear your name mentioned quite often these days. You've done well, my friend. Keep at it." so there you have it, i have a reasonable amount of fame in bastok, san doria(drain), and windhurst (aspir). hope this helps a lil. and byw i cant get gobbie bag 3. but i dont know if i will ever need it. gl

when I finished gobbie bag #1 I couldnt start #2, I went and did the "only the best" quest (La Theine cabbage) in selbina ~32 times, went back to jeuno to get something and was able to start #2 and I even made a bit of gil doing that.

Ive been thinking ...

Goblin furriers have dropped dhamel and tiger leather for me so I would expect ram leather as well. So if this gob drops it why couldnt Goblin Miners drop the gems needed. They are found in this place i came across in Bubu (i think orozo labyrinth, well something labyrinth anyway).

Im gonna kill some of the miners and see.

OK guys, fame is so complicated it's almost impossible to calculate without seeing the source code so just do alot of quests, lvl up, rank 5 gives alot of fame blah blah blah. You'll get gobbie 2 when you can afford it.
