I was helping a PLD friend of mine do this quest last night. For me, I got help from a BST75 and WHM75, and the battle took about 5 minutes or so with no significant problems whatsoever. So we went to the spawn spot and I give out this elaborate strategy of how we would go about killing the NM. The fight starts. RDM does Spirits Within (400+dmg) and then I do Spirits Within (500+dmg), and it's dead within 5 seconds after we engaged it. Easy stuff.

SummaryThe boy needs a whetstone to sharpen an old blade. Find one for him in Ordelle's Caves. WalkthroughNote: Before doing this quest, you must first complete the quest Father and Son. Talk to Ailbeche at J-8 in Northern San d'Oria, then head to Ordelle's Caves. Look for a stalagmite around H-10 of the first level. This triggers the spawn of Polevik, an Earth Elemental. After you kill him, touch the stalagmite again to receive the key item Ordelle Whetstone. Talk to Sobane in D-6 of Southern San d'Oria. Then go back to Ailbeche for your Honor Sword. wow, as a 42 galka pally with 74 vit with food, i still got hit for 160 dmg a hit... (o.O), also i died 2 x, cause i was raised in combat and hit by a 400 dmg stonega 2 >< eww, at least i now have the sword

i just did this today, i'm a lvl 41 PLD on Phoenix server and i had a lvl 70 DRK help me. he was hitting it for 20 dmg, and it was wooping on him. i had to use cure III twice, and the second time i got hate and it brought me down to 7 hp. he did manage to kill it, but it was close.

I went shouting in Northern and Southern San d'Oria for help with this quest when a lvl 75 BLM offered to help. So we hopped a choco and went to the Ordelles' Caves. She must be a high lvl Paladin or has helped many times before because I followed her all the way there. But when we got there...the mob came out and I swear...this thing was a problem. He was hitting the BLM for 50 damage. Not much? yeah, not when he was hitting her for 50 damage and she has 700HP!!. And me, being stupid voke it off her to have it hit me for 150+ Damage!!!! I had to use Cure 3, 3 times in a row just to keep me alive. Her Aero 4's were keeping the hate though so I lived. After the battle she told me to talk to the rock and I got the stone. But jeez, if this is the first AF mission...I can only imagine what the other ones are gonna be like ; ;.
I did this last night. The line-up was me and a level 75 PLD. It was pretty easy. The PLD opened with a 300% Spirits Within for 550+ damage. It was sort of unnerving to see a 75 PLD getting hit for 100+ while only hitting for 10-20. (Though it was sort of made up by the fact that he was using a Joyeuse.)
In the end, he killed it with around 80% HP remaining, 100% MP. Took maybe 1 minute.

Well ok guys i did this today and omfg it was ridiculously easy to do.
the line up was me 42 PLD, 67 DRK and 57 WHM wasnt quick but he was hardly a problem

Well i have a lvl 56pld on the ifrit server, and this fight was very easy for my prty... all u need is a lvl 70+ member, and u have this fight won....

No one answered Raise calls so I home pointed to run back and Raise the PLD so he could finish his quest.
DRK was very grateful since if he'd died, he would have levelled down.
I suggest an army of mages (BLM/RDM) or just one really good one. But we had fun and finished the quest. ^_^

Did you happen to silence it?? if u silence it it should be really easy.
I think I did silence it at first and perhaps again a second time but after that I was too busy tossing heals to do anything else. Then, of course, I was dead so I couldn't do anything. xD

Did this not even an hour ago. The party consisted of.
WHM/SMN - Level 43(Hume F)
NIN/THF - Level 43(Hume M)
PLD/WAR - Level 43(Galka)
WAR/NIN - Level 42(Elvaan M)
We worked up TP to 300 each, to skillchain on it. That was how we started the battle. The PLD was able to keep hate most of the time, only losing it once or twice. The elemental was hitting him really hard. About 120+ per attack. About halfway thru the battle I (the WAR) used Mighty Strikes, which didn't do a whole lot more damage, but it did do it's share. The PLD soon hit invincible afterwards. The WHM did a great job at keeping him alive up until the point where he used Invincible, and to the part where it wore off. Silence was cast on him several times. We all got in one more skill chain before the NIN used Majin Gakure, killing the elemental, and leaving the PLD with 44 HP. It was close, but it was soooo much fun.
Note - When the NIN used his 2HR, the Polvik had about a quarter of HP left. The NIN had a ton because the PLD and WHM took all the damage from the fight.
You don't "need" high level help. Just a good balanced PT that has people that know how to do their jobs, and everything should be okay ^_^

This was unbelievably easy.
My good friend (Lv73 PLD) came to help me fight Polevik and this is what happened, in a bout 3 seconds:
- Sentinel
- He then Provokes it
- Spirits Within @300% TP
- FINISHED!
He killed it in one hit...
The attack did over 700 damage.

The fight of a lifetime! Both pld's and the drk were killed in action towards the end of the fight (Stonega II did 350+), but a 3 damage melee from the 44 rdm put Polevik down. Huzzah!

anyhelp on Cerberus server? ^_^ i'm gonna have trouble finding high lvl's to help me out, I hate newb /sh'ing but i guess thats what i might have to do. /sigh
at lvl 44 I finally decided to do it (yeah i got lazy and got more pt invites then offers to help me w/ this in jueno) and I was sitting in jueno shouting for help. A lvl 71 pld that was gonna camp the chyme in ordelles offered to help.
He subbed blm for some minor nukes and took along a bunch of pineapple juice. We used shield bash to stop stonega 2 altho mine missed the second one (veeeery embarrasing infront of a high lvl pld /blush) and stonaga 2 took me down about half life. Not a big deal since he was tanking it we were able to cure me up and keep going. Took a long time because when it used stoneskin basically the only dmg we did was w/ his nukes which weren't much either. It does seem to have low hp tho but ridiculous defense. Anyways tho a lvl 71 pld basically soloed this for me so if u get someone this high im sure ur fine...

just to clear any confusion, polevik doesn't drop anything.. you can get every paladin in one shot. just touch the stalagmite again after he gibs

This NM is incredibly easy to kill.
All you need is a whm & brd.
What you need to know is that an elemental will NEVER use attack magic unless it has an En- spell in effect (in this case enstone).
So all you do is silence it. Once it wakes up, it'll cast enstone. do Magic Finale and Silence. Rinse & repeat.
When we fought it, it never once cast an attack spell.
All you need is a whm & brd.

I went with a whm 55 , blm 62 , a 60+ paladin , and another high lvl blm .
LoL I just stood aside and watch him die , they had no trouble at all and even lower levels or 1 player less would of been enough.

Just did this yesterday. This thing is hard. I would suggest brining high lvls with you if you can. I went in as a lvl 43 paladin, triggered the stalagmite (there is no cutscene, Polevick apprears immediately so be ready), and bam get nailed for 200+ out of the box. Luckily I brought a 62 thf/31 nin to blink tank and a 61 blm/30 whm to nuke along with a 46 drg and 41 whm. I was hitting Polevik, on average, of about 3-4 damage. Obviously I wasn't doing crap, the thf was jacking him up from all those multiple hit combos and from the blm using Aero III. Drg wasn't hitting for more than 5-6 per hit either. Took us about five minutes to kill him. Make sure you bring someone high lvl to nuke and tank if you can. Otherwise you'll need an alliance.
This mob is NOT hard!
Bring a couple of Paladins who have gained Spirit's Within and build up to 300% TP before the fight. Spirit's within at 300% will do at least 450-500 damage (depending on the Paladin's HP of course, but at level 55, when you gain the WS, you should have 1000+ HP easily).

forget it pizzior. u cant do it,cuz u have to kill polevik. if u dont kill it u dont get the key item u need ;)
i did it with a 61pld...she killed it solo ^^

I just got Paladin lvl41 and will try this soon :
- Check the ???
- Hit once Polevik
- 2 hours (invicible)
- Check back spot ??? (hopefully get item back)
- run away (maybe in the hole or instant warp)
I will keep you post if that exact series had worked for me :)
