Since most of the treasure chests spawn right in the middle of a bunch of sound aggro mobs (and opening a chest removes sneak), you might want to open the chest with the following macro:
/item "Nest chest key" <t>
/ma "Sneak" <me>
Hit this macro while chainspell and sneak is active and the treasure chest is targetted and you open the chest witout losing your sneak ^^

SummaryInvestigate reports of a ghost in the cathedral. WalkthroughYou must be at least level 50 and have completed The Crimson Trial - RDM AF1 to obtain this quest. Before starting this quest, save time by buying a Velvet cloth from the auction house. Head to Chateau d'Oraguille and speak to Curilla. She gives you the key item Old Watch and directs you to the cathedral in North San d'Oria. Enter the cathedral and go down to the basement, and talk to the priest in front of the large piano. He'll ask you to bring him a Velvet cloth. Trade him the cloth to receive a cutscene and receive the key item Old Boots. After the cutscene, go back to Chateau d'Oraguille and speak again with Curilla. Next, head to Crawler's Nest and farm a Nest Chest Key. Mobs that drop the keys include Blazer Beetles, Exorays, Hornflies, Labyrinth Lizard, Mushussus, Rumble Crawlers, Wespes and Witch Hazels. Once you get a key, find a regular treasure chest. On the second map, the chest can spawn at I-8, G-9, H-7 and H-8; or on the third map at I-8, H-8, G-7, H-9 and G-9. Trade your key to the chest to receive Crawler Blood. Note: You must go back to Curilla after obtaining the Blood, to trigger another CS before you go to bury your boots. Next, use sneak and head to I-10 on the second map. After sneaking past a scorpion, you will find a ??? in the middle of the corridor. Examine the ???. After the next Japanese midnight, return to the ??? and examine it again to receive your Warlock's Boots. Quest SeriesThis quest is part of the Red Mage artifact armor series. When I was partying I just happened to get a key drop, I figured it was for a map or something and figured I'd save it, and I'm glad I did... The Treasure Chest was the hardest part... Kinda sux without a map... So I camped in the one spot where I knew a chest would pop.... I camped 3 long days and nothing... Finally I had a lvl 66 war come down and keep me company... As soon as I asked him to look around, he left the room and as soon as he turned the corner, Bam a treasure chest... I felt like a dork... But now at least I have my af boots ^.^ ... O, and the chest spawns are in and to the left of the exoray room.

I got lucky having gotten a Nest Chest Key from partying in the Nest from level 38 to 45, so I held on to it knowing I was gonna need it for AF2. Now a level 51, fresh off of LB1 and Rank 5 mission, I decide to use the key for it's purpose. I check the nest once for about 40 min and no chest. I come back a day later, and check the donut room first (the big area with the "secret room") and I run smack into a treasure chest on the back wall (far end of room straight ahead from enterance tunnel). I get my Blood, run the boots to the ???, and bury them. Since it was the last thing for me to do before bed, I'll have some nice new boots to wear when I wake up, and then level to 52. :( But either way, combined time for quest (including airship ride to Sandy) = 2hrs. Oh yeah, and as for the 2nd tunnel on the right, it's the second tunnel on the right from when you drop off the ledge into the first big room with the Lizards. You should be facing the tunnel with all the Caveberrys in its depths (where many fought beetles around level 35), so it's the second tunnel to the right of that one. I wish I could give you better directions, but I don't have a map of the Nest.

Well I read all of the posts above and got decent help, but one clarification of the ??? on the map the tunnel you go through is on the top left corner from the initial drop down area from rollenberry zone (when you look at the map). I found the chest by looking in every corner I could with sneak and invis on. as a lvl 50 rdm it ws easy to solo. I did get aggro from the lizzy when I opened the chest (not in the big room, for me) but it took me maybe 45-50 minutes of running with sneak and invis and looking.
I will check tomorrow and see what happens...

There is one detail that is not mentioned in the write up is what way you are supposed to be facing to go down the "second tunnel on the right." Face SOUTH, THEN find the second tunnel on the right, which takes you down to the lower level of the nest. The ??? is in the middle of the floor just beyond the mist.

From reading everyones post i just want to say im sorry i have opened the treasure chest at least 10 times.... i seem to be able to find it very easy. Hopefully it goes well when i grab the quest today. And do you really have to wait for midnight japan?

After about 3 hours of stumbling around Crawlers Nest without a map, I finally found my chest. Almost immediately after... I got aggro from a Labrynth Lizard and had to Instant Warp out (I sub WHM, not BLM) I run back to Crawlers... and I can't find the god damned ??? spot. What area is it in? The first that you come in, the big circular room or somewhere else? /sigh

{Excuse me...} I'm an idiot :) I kept reading everyone's posts that said "take your 2nd right" and was just like nooooo, that just leads upstairs, it can't be there! So I was running around looking in all of the dead ends (like where the barrells of Rolanberries are) I finally stopped being stubborn and took my 2nd right, lol. I just burried my boots :)
Oh, and in response to the big donut room being the easiest to find a chest in, I disagree. I ran around in circles forever in there the first 3 times I went searching for my chest, no luck. As soon as I ran into the other upstairs area, I found it first try.

just to post my experience, i opened treasure chest at 3pm Greenwich time, then less than 15 mins to get the ??? (i was far <_<).. examinated then waited a few mins, maybe 3.30pm, then just to see i re-checked the ???... Obtained: Warlock's Boots...

I have to say that I was not looking forward to looking for this chest. My first rn was unsuccessful due to a party invite that I could not refuse, and on my second attemp i found it in about 5 mins. I guess I am just lucky. It is pretty lame that i have to wait till 12am japan time, just give me my damn boots already. Oh well i will pick them up tomorrow.
okay.... finally got everything needed.... burried my boots and blood and now I've gone back through this strand and been told I have to wait till midnight japan time to get my boots!!! ARG!!!! WHATS UP WIT DAT?!!! SQAURESOFT NEEDS A SPANKEN FOR MAKING WHAT CAN BE AT TIMES ONE OF THE MOST ANOYING GAMES IN HISTORY!!!
heres a good one.... I started leveling two months ago in the CN... within only a couple days I ran into a chest... one prob.. no key. so finally I get the key... get my level... get the quest.. got the boots and have died like 12 times waiting for this damn chest to spawn!!! I HATE THIS QUEST!!!

Got this last night - had the key from exping... spent 2 evenings in the nest seeking the chest with a high lvl friend of mine. He had to log last night and my stubbornness kicked in - so in I went on my own. After an hour of running round doing the odd shout asking if people had seen it pop I was quite deep into the nest... did another shout and someone had it right in front of them - brought me to the chest and I got my blood and warped out.
Went back to nest and buried my boots... clicked the ??? again straight at midnight.01 JP time today... and got them!
Now to do G1 so I can level and equip them - starting to feel like a "proper" red mage now.

Omg!! I have seriously spent over 3 days looking for this treasure chest!!! I'm a 50 RDM, and It's seriously annoying the heck outa me, can i get a map of the treasure chest spawn points? if so I would appreciate it if someone could let me see it. Thanks

Okay.. i got the blood... and yes I did talk to Curilla again after i saw the cutscene in the cathedral and got the old boots. She did tell me to go to the Crawler's Nest in her stead.. Anyways..
When i click on the ??? it says someone's been digging here.. Im wondering if I'm at the right spot. On the way to this ???, there are some puroboras, nest beetles, doom scorpion, and then around the ??? itself are a couple Soldier Crawlers..
If it is the right spot... could it be possible that only one person can do RDM AF2 a day? Please help me out!!!

then, go down the second tunnel from the right, a bit of a run.. but eventually u'll find the correct ???

For the life of me I cant figure this out.
I'm a 51 RDM with my AF sword. I talked to all the people needed, includeing Cuirella twice. I went to the Crawlers nest with the boots, got the blood and went to the room behind the Doom Scorpion. Only to find it said "Someone has been digging here" So i went back to San Doria talked to Cuirella again then went back to the "???" and again "Someone..digging" So i tried the rolanberry "???" and even the one waay deep in by the Crawler Eaters and Knight Crawlers and still Nothing!
They talk about how its dawned in light. Do you have to do it at a certain time of day?
What A'm I doing wrong here?

I should have read the comments. Just used my Kingdom scarf to warp to Sandy to do another quest. Gotta take the airship now and wait til tomorrow.

Can someone please add the part about talking to Curilla a second time to the walkthrough?
Oh, and the chest was definitely a pain. Went a couple of different times and had to chainspell + warp out, learning in the process that labyrinth lizards and soul stingers aggro. Went third time with WHM36 while I was lfg, and got it on my way back to the main area. I mostly hunted chests in the area with the 3 small circle spiky rooms since fewer people go there to party.

I completely agree with you guys on that chest. It is a ******* to find. I'm lv 51 and have died about twice now. Me and my lv 65 friend Jarin were hunting for the key and spotted a chest near by us, so we set up camp there and started killing cralwers and flies. Well, right before we got the key(I'm talking the mob right before the key drop), some random non rdm person comes by opens it(!) and then the next day I died and the rdm I was competiting with sent me a tell that said"Found it". grrrr. I've died twice and I'm losing my patience with this damn quest.
