Summary

Investigate reports of a ghost in the cathedral.

Walkthrough

You must be at least level 50 and have completed The Crimson Trial - RDM AF1 to obtain this quest.

Before starting this quest, save time by buying a Velvet cloth from the auction house.

Head to Chateau d'Oraguille and speak to Curilla. She gives you the key item Old Watch and directs you to the cathedral in North San d'Oria.

Enter the cathedral and go down to the basement, and talk to the priest in front of the large piano. He'll ask you to bring him a Velvet cloth. Trade him the cloth to receive a cutscene and receive the key item Old Boots. After the cutscene, go back to Chateau d'Oraguille and speak again with Curilla.

Next, head to Crawler's Nest and farm a Nest Chest Key. Mobs that drop the keys include Blazer Beetles, Exorays, Hornflies, Labyrinth Lizard, Mushussus, Rumble Crawlers, Wespes and Witch Hazels.

Once you get a key, find a regular treasure chest. On the second map, the chest can spawn at I-8, G-9, H-7 and H-8; or on the third map at I-8, H-8, G-7, H-9 and G-9. Trade your key to the chest to receive Crawler Blood.

Note: You must go back to Curilla after obtaining the Blood, to trigger another CS before you go to bury your boots.

Next, use sneak and head to I-10 on the second map. After sneaking past a scorpion, you will find a ??? in the middle of the corridor. Examine the ???.

After the next Japanese midnight, return to the ??? and examine it again to receive your Warlock's Boots.

More Spawn points for chest
# Oct 08 2004 at 4:43 AM Rating: Decent
Ok So you are running around looking for the chest and its not in the Rumble room the exoray camp in the middle of the big room on the second floor or Anywhere in the Big room.

Congratulations!! You have my luck.

The rest of the spawn point I know of are down the hall that goes From the main Worker Crawler room to where you place the old boots and Crawlers Blood. Past that there are three rooms that look almost identical to the worker crawler room except that they have different mobs The first two have Labryinth Lizards and the Third have Rumble crawlers. In the labrynth lizard rooms the chest spawns in a litle nook...kind of a real short hall on the edge of the room...And I'm assuming the same for the Rumble crawler room although I Haven't seen it in that room.

BE CAREFUL when going between these rooms there are halls just like in the the first main room.....some dead end and some only go one way and the rest take you further in or back one way. There are also mobs that Aggro to everything as you walk through Exos, Scropions, Crawlers, and Lizards Aggro to sound....The Wespes, and the other bees in here(Forget name) Aggro to sight and smell so you really need to use All three of your spells to pull this one off if your chest is in the back. If you don't find your chest in one of the first three rooms walk around ...or use your map to get you to the main big room down here Past the Rumble Crawler room. You will come to a bigger room that is full of Knight Crawlers and Crawler Hunters There is a Chest spawn point on the left hand wall towards the middle of the room as you are facing into the room.

One last thing to Be careful about. Have a plan for opening the chests. As a RDM I'm sure youre like me and did the drop invis hit the item and warp out before you die trick a few times to get things done on here...
BE AWARE that your Sneak will wear off when you open the chest and that almost everything that is back near these spawn points aggros to Sound

I hope that this helps Someone out and that it makes at least a little bit of sense....Been awake for way to long....:/

Nothing aggros to smell in there. Just keep sneak/invis up and you will be fine. I ran through all 3 rooms without incident. Still looking for chest though. Happy hunting!

He is named Pagisalis and doesn't seem to be in front of a piano but rather some sort of altar. The room he is in is called the Reliquary.

i'm a lvl 51rdm. and i got my "nest chest key" during pty at CN. So after reading this helpful info. i went do CN, hoping to find chest. i ended up ciruling the doughnut room. unfortunately was not able to locate chest at (H-7), (H-8) and (G-9). I do not have a map to CN. so i was wondering for area (H-8) is it a deadend room filled with Exorays? Also, is it true that chest will not spawn at a differnt location without being opened by others?
Thank you

There are a set number of spawn points throughout any zone which contains a chest, or a coffer for that matter.

Supposing that a chest spawns at point #4 of 10 spawn points in a given zone: it will remain there until the end of time if not opened. Or, at least until a server restart. The great majority of "Treasure Chests" spawn every 20-30 minutes. I've heard the same of Coffers, but can't confirm.

The ONLY acception to the rule is if a player obtains a magical pattern for RSE. Should a magical pattern be obtained from a Treasure Chest, it respawns "immediately". Let's say less than 20 seconds later just to put a number on it. ;)

Have a look at the map I drew up a couple posts down. Follow the North Passage (Point "D" on my ASCII map) to the 2nd floor and start poking around. I don't think I could do a fair representation of that side of the map, as I've only seen it twice ;)

Hope this answers your questions!

If you have a map of the crawler's nest, it will be extremely easy. You probably already have the key from xp pt's here.

If you don't, maybe this rudimentary map will help:

[**o***D****o**]
[**\\***||***//**]
[***\\**||**//***]
[****\\*||*//****]
[*****\\||//*****]
[B=====E====A*]
[*****//||\\*****]
[****//*||*\\****]
[***//**||**\\***]
[**//***||***\\**]
[*o*****C***o**]

A: The 1st ledge you drop off of after entering the nest
B: Tunnel to Cave Berries/Beetles
C: Tunnel to lower level (South). This is the area with the "Secret" room, and the "Doughnut Room"
D: Tunnel to lower level (North).
E: 1st Egg Sack room

If you follow tunnel "D", you have no choice but to cross over the "???" where you must bury the boots, and the blood.

Be sure you have sneak and invis up before you head down the tunnel. I passed a Doom Scorpion, Soldier Crawlers, and Exorays before I found the chest. The chest was also surrounded by 3-5 exorays. Make sure sneak is up, then drop invis to open the chest.

I suggest checking the "Doughnut Room" first for the chest, as I recall only a couple of spawn points on that side. The majority of the spawn points are past the "???" where you bury the Key Items. I found the chest on the north side with relative ease. There are several rooms with one way ledges. A quick scout of the area and you can see the direction they all go.

All total, it took about 10 minutes from the time I entered the nest, to the time I warped out. Come back after midnight JP time, (8am PST), and check the "???" again to get your boots.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: ASCII'd map, added point "E"

Bought a velvet cloth at the Sandy AH for 3000 gil and headed to Chateau d'Oraguille to talk with Curilla. She's in the Royal Temple Knights room on the right side of the Chateau as soon as you enter. Got the cutscene and the Old Watch key item.

Ran to the Cathedral, turned left as soon as I entered and ran around the corner and down the stairs to the piano room. Traded the velvet cloth to the priest and got the cutscene with the ghost Red Mage. Headed back to Curilla got another cutscene and was instructed to go to the Crawler's Nest to bury the Old Boots and Crawler's Blood.

I somehow managed to keep the Nest chest key from my PLD days lvling in the Nest (probably in hopes that I could use it some day, and good thing I kept it, too). The chest key seems to drop most often from the Blazer Beetles and Hornflys. Found some treasure chest location maps online, printed them out and spent about 30-50min using sneak and invisible around the Nest looking for that chest. Went really deep into the Nest where the Labyrinth Lizards, Wespes, and Witch Hazels spawned (thru the H-8 side tunnel of the main pit coming from Rolanberry Fields, which is also past the ??? point where you bury the 2 key items).

After some suspenseful situations where Sneak and Invisible were about to wear off and being trapped between Exorays and Labyrinth Lizards, I somehow managed to live and decided to explore some safer areas of the Nest. I went down the J-10 side tunnel of the main pit into the lower pit with the secret room. Ran a few circles around there, checked the Exoray camp in the center, checked the Rumble crawler side tunnel, did a few more circles around the pit and finally found the chest spawned at G-7 of that lower pit area (northwest corner of the pit).

Ran back to the main pit on the upper level of the Nest and went thru the H-8 tunnel to I-10 on the map. There was a Doom Scorpion and Soldier Crawler nearby, but not close enough that I had run for my life after burying the key items. Dropped Invisible, buried the items at the ???, Sneak wore off, casted both spells again and ran out of the Nest into Rolanberry Fields.

Now just have to wait till tomorrow 11:01AM EST and the boots are mine. Good luck to anyone else getting the boots.

True, BUT the mob family is called Damsfly, as it's what's listed under the [Fiends] section of the auto-translator, which only has mob types.

I printed this out and had it sitting next to me when I did this. Step by step, and easy to follow instructions. I'm now the proud owner of Warlock Boots. Now if only that Lich would drop his silly notepad, I could equip them sometime soon!! lol

Great Job!!

To answer the question somewhere below:

You are able to leave the area, and even log out on this quest. Come back anytime past the next midnight Japan time, and the boots will be ready.

The 100% TRUTH about this artifact run!!!!!!

Having done this tonight, I can tell you EXACTLY 100% of how to do this. The guide at the top of the page is 100% correct.

The chest you need to find is NOT a coffer chest. It's a regular chest. Finding it is a major pain since it spawns all over the place! You use a regular Nest Chest Key to open it. If you have the quest activated you will receive the Crawler Blood. You then go to the ??? at the designated place and click on it.

You then have to wait till midnight Japan time. I'm in Japan's time zone and I put my boots in the dirt at 11:55pm and was able to dig them out 5 minutes later at my midnight! You DO NOT have to wait 12 hours. Just till the next midnight in Japan!

I am now the proud owner of my Warlock's Boots. ^-^

10:10 Eastern here, and no boots either. Maybe they have the time change wrong in the info...

Edit, yep... I checked on a site and it is currently 11:10 Japan time. Still have another hour to wait. http://www.worldtimeserver.com/?locationid=JP is the site I checked the time at. Very useful for any of these kinds of events.

the ??? for this quest is NOT in the tunnel with caveberries... i was confused by this since there is a room with a ??? containing soldier crawlers past a scorpion. this is not the correct tunnel.

the ??? for this quest is on the path that leads to the one way drop into the room with labyrinth lizards

Well, I got the quest, talked to Curilla, and can't find my way around the crawlers nest. I couldn't find any ??? except for in H6, I think. Which map is this on? When the information says second tunnel from the right, the right of what? Yes, I have a map - is this near the secret room?

I would really appreciate it if someone can help me out here.

Thanks in advance

You take the second right facing into the first pit (~lvl 35 area with the worker crawlers.) You will run into a single doom scorpion and worker crawlers. It's the path that leads to the other rolanberry baskets and the second exit. The ??? is under an exceptionally bright green glowy thing and is hard to miss.

There is a soldier crawler that refuses to move from its spot right next to the ???, but you can target the ??? without losing sneak so it shouldn't be a problem. If you have found the crawler's blood, the rest of this quest is easy.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 10 2004 at 9:17 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Piano? There is a piano in the church? I'd like to see this, as I just looked in the basement and there is no piano nor organ. The NPC name would have been nice, the only thing that looks like you might have mistaken for a piano is the border in the Reliquary room.

"Someone has been digging here..."

I tried to bury the boots only to find evidence of others digging here. I thought to myself "perhaps only one rdm/day can get AF" So I waited until the next day only to find the same annoying message. I came to the conclusion that either someone already beat me there again, or i need a digging tool.
If anyone can shed some light on this part of the quest, I would be greatful. tankies~^^;

I was confused about that myself, until a helpful Red Mage showed me where I had erred (thanks, Xenimus!)... You need to make sure you've talked with Curilla after getting the boots, or else you won't "technically" know what to do with them. Once you've had the cutscene with her and Prince Trion you'll find out about the crawler's blood and where to bury the boots. Hope this helps! ^^

FYI- I'm a rdm and I went to the crawlers nest with BOTH a chest key, and a coffer key, with the quest started. I opened a coffer and I got a periodot. I then searched around awhile longer, found a regular treasure chest, opened it with regular key, and I got the key item to bury with the boots. Hope that helps.
