SummaryThe weighting stone used to make the Rarab Tail Hostelry's specialty dish, "Rarab Tail Pickles," was broken. WalkthroughTalk to Chamama to get the quest. She will ask you for a replacement weighting stone. Head out to the Sarutabaruta plains and kill crawlers until you receive a Smooth Stone. Go back to Chamama and trade her the stone. Whether she accepts it or not is random, so you might have to do many hand-ins if you are unlucky. Since the stone is Rare/Exclusive, you must go back outside to obtain another stone until she decides the stone you brought her is acceptable. The first one she accepts will get you a Bone Hairpin. I think level makes the different. she won't accept mine 4 times when I'm lv20. but she give me the Bone Hairpin right after I changed to lv1. I guess someone can try it and prove the right/wrong.
The whole smooth stone thing is completely random. At least I believe it is. Follow my logic:
If you see my job levels, you will see quite a span of variation. I have turned in smooth stones from lvl 1, to lvl 30, to 1 again, to 9, to 5, ect. All of these (generally) having the same success rate.
Like most quests (most, not all), level doesn't matter, and I think it just HAPPENED to be the fifth time she accepted it from you to be successful.

it's not true you can't do this after inspecter gadget. I just did.
I was rank 2, an I just did it after the mustache quest.
I think you just gota let a game day pass, or do some other quest to change your title. I talked to her and she let me do it.

Lucky me, I got the Hairpin after only 2 tries.
As well, the location is F-10 , not F-8.

Yea, many people say its random, but to me, it appears dang-near broken. I've turned in Ten stones so far, TEN! She has rejected every single one of them. It is no longer frustrating, its downright annoying. I'm going to keep trying, because I want to get this quest over with.
EDIT: Eleventh time is a charm, I finally completed the quest! yay!

Even after you complete the other quest you cannot do this one. So either never get it... or... well... I guess live with it. ^_^;; More quests will come with these characters I'm sure, that's one thing about FF, it seems to want to force you to grow.

This is completely off. You have to turn in 3 or 4 stones before she gives you the hairpin. The first stone will be to light, the second, to heavy, and so on.

Ogre is correct, it is absolutely random. I got it on my second stone, and turning in about 4 stones after that for gil, she has accepted 3 of those. Totally random.
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's random. One of my friends turned it 6 before she got it, and I got it on my first turn in.
