SummaryGo to Mhaura and meet Koh Lenbalalako. It is said that she knows the whereabouts of the sinner's daughter. WalkthroughNote: You must have completed Sin Hunting - RNG AF1 to get this quest. Talk to Perih Vashai at K-7 in Windurst Woods for a cutscene. Next, head to Mhaura and talk to Koh Lenbalalako at F-9 in the Blacksmith's Guild. You will receive another cutscene. Next, head to the Eldieme Necropolis. Upon entering, you get another cutscene in which the Mithra Tracker wants you to go ahead of her and "clear the way" to the tombstone (southernmost G-9 of 4 chambers in the Eldieme Necropolis area accessible from I-10 in Batallia Downs.) Find the tombstone and examine it for another cutscene. Return to Windurst and talk again with Perih Vashai for another cutscene. Next, head to Castle Oztroja. Make your way past the large doorway controlled by the four switches. Proceed through the tunnel and up the stairs until you reach the large room with the fountain. Run into the pool around the fountain. When all yagudos have turned away, use scavange and camouflage, then run back out into the hallway. Repeat this until you receive the item Old Earring. I hate this ******* game. I just scavenged 12 times for it tonight and nothing. I loaded up on Oil and Powder, and was very careful, but when I got there there were some lv 75's fishing there. I thought, "cool, if the crap goes down, they might jump in and help me out. WRONG. There was a damned THF running around, and he brought a few hundred birds with him, then used "Hide." Now I was ok, for I was invisible, and the birds began to leave, except ONE. Now I wasn't in the pool, but a 50 PLD was. he caught aggro from a parasite, and it brought it's friends, he died right in front of me, cuz when you are getting hit, apparently you run around frantically trying to kill whoever is near you. So, my sneak wears off, i cant use oil because one bird is still there, right beside me, and the parasites beat the **** out of me. LV 75s(around 6) hung around and watched me die. That isn't what pisses me off though, its the goddamned randomness of the scavenge. I would have gladly died if I had gotten the sodding earring, but NOOOOOOO, I go 12 times and nothing, wasted quite a bit of oils and powders to get there, with nothing to show for it^^. Anyone know what level I can safely go there and NOT catch aggro? My lv 60 LS friends seemed to have no problems, so is that a good level? If so, ***** this hat, I will keep my hairpin till I can solo this.

um... going on 6 hours...... standing in the middle while people kill this stuff off... tried logging out and logging in... tried the lining up from both map and the little side things im in H9.... hmmm... why does this quest totally suck.
Bah sooo... my friend runs out to help me and is like stand right here... (where i was standing in the first place) and i scavenge bam old earring >.> i think its just luck tho...he told me to stand int he place i was already standing lol.

I've been here for 3.5 hours so far 25 scavenges, not a thing but pissed off yags.. make it stop!!
Edit: 4.5 hours now.. still nothing. I'm truly sorry if you have to go through this for this long ^^

Ok heres the deal.
Went in Castle with another ranger I picked up in the necropolis and headed to the pool.
He Scavanges once bam old earring, so I'm like oh cool it only takes 1 scavange to get it WRONG!! 13 so far still going. God Awful AF Quest. Oh well back for more fun.

Since the guide posted doesn't really give detailed directions on how to get to the scavenge point, I thought I'd help out.
Enter Castle Oztroja from L-8 of Meriphataud Mountains. Once inside, head straight and turn left at the first intersection. Take the first right and just head straight along the left wall of the open room. The path veers around - turn left at the intersection. This should take you to the first gate at I-8. This door is weird -- if you're too far away from the switch, it will say you are too far away even though you could be right next to it. To make it work, you actually need to stand in the middle between the two switches (even though your character wouldn't be able to reach them from that point ^^)
Once you open the gate, head through, and just follow the one-way path. You'll be on the second map now. When you get to the intersection at I-8, take a LEFT. At the next intersection, take another left. Go right at the next intersection. Again, take a right at the next intersection. Follow the path around and go left when you reach H-8. This will take you to gate #2 at G-8.
After passing through the gate (I think you just pull each switch), the path is simply one way, and will take you right to the pond. The pond is at H-9 on map #3 if you're using the speakeasy maps.
I stood in the center of the pond and got my old earring on the first try.

Dear god, i have been here 4 hours scavaging, this is nerve wrecking. I got an astral ring,travelers mantle, martial slacks, and 2 thunderpacts this weekend. I felt like the luckiest man in the world until now, I HATE YOU SE!!!!!!

sorry for double post but i used this walkthrough since none of my friends would help me ok got past the trap door THEN WHAT!! this guide really sucks doesn't give u positions to go to or enough info to actually know what the hell your doing. Second door WHAT SECOND DOOR i've never been here before. Died 3 Feckin times trying to figure this damn guide out.
i started going rng now since drk hit 75, i figured better head over to start my AF hat quest. anyway i was getting to go to oztroja to scavenge in the pond, the parasites aggro my rng so i went as drk75/rng37 i scavenged and got on first try. without any aggro ^^

yea , you gotta in the middle of the pool...
Take time, look around, and make sure you r right in the middle. Also, you can check it by /map ... (Both you and the pool are shown in the map)

I'm getting a little frustrated with this quest. I'm a level 50 RGN/NIN and I have completed the RGN AF Bow quest. I went to Windy and received quest from Perih Vashai. I went to Eldieme Necropolis, read monument, and got cut scene. I went back to back to Windy spoke with Perih Vashai again, another cut scene, then I went off to the pond in Castle Oztroja with the leeches. First time, 0/16 scavenging for earring. Second time went with 3 stacks of silent oils, 0/34 scavenging for earring. Is my luck that bad or am I missing something?
Let me recap, I am a level 50 RGN/NIN and I have completed RGN AF Bow quest and all parts of this quest except getting earring. The only other AF quest that has been started/accepted but not completed is the AF Hands quest from Guslam in Upper Jeuno.
Do I need to be level 51 or higher to get the earring (static has been on hold for holiday break)?
Do I need to have the RGN AF Bow on me to get the earring (previously the bow has been in storage since it sucks)?
Do I need to complete the AF Hands quest before I can get the earring?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Update: I finally got the freaking earring. Since my initial 0/50 run in early January, I had only been back one time (about a week or so ago) to try for the earring. I tried about ten times and left having more useful things to do. I was at the point that I figured I would be high enough level when I finally got the earring that I would no longer need invis or sneak.
Well last night I was helping a LS member finish up the magacite missions and thought, WTH, I'll give it a try. I should have known my luck had changed when I got to the combination lock door on the 2nd floor and no yags guarding it. We run up to the 3rd floor, I apply silent oil and use Tonko (I've done this so many times I had a macro that does both), run to the pool, check to make sure that I am in the middle, then launch my other macro written specifically for this quest which scavenges and then immediately uses camouflage.
BAM!!! OLD EARRING!!! IT DOES EXIST!!!
Just a word for those who have yet to try this. If you try a number of times (10 times or so) and don't get the earring, run to the hallway and log out then log back in. It would seem from all the posts that I have read that something gets set/reset when you enter this zone that effects your chance of getting the earring. Good luck or jsut better luck than me.

Another rate up for you, billpearce. A friend of mine was having trouble on this. I saw your post and gave him your advice, BAM he got the earring first time he scavenged after logging in.
Rate Up for you, billpearce. I did the AF2 quest yesterday, with 14-15 unsuccesful scavenges. Two other rangers were with me doing it, they had about 6-8 unsuccessful scavenges. I read your post and recommend we all log out in the hallway to test this out. YES! All three get it on the first scavenge after we log back in. Anyone having problems gettin the Old Earring should try that: log out to game menu in the hallway, log back in, and it should help with the scavenging.

1- Since ur lv50 and done AF1 and ALREADY started AF2 that means ur kewl u dont need to be 51 to get the earring.
2- You dont have to have anything specific on you mate to get the earring.
3- NO, u dont have to complete AF hands quest to complete this one.
It took me 80+ times scavenge to get my Old earring. Just keep at it and you will get it eventually.

I am currently at the lake As rdm/rng, so i can cast sneak, invis, and still have scavenge. I have scavenged roughly 10 times and no earing. DO i have to ue RNG as main??

Ok i got the earring >< but after like 80+ times scavages ; ; , Also you dont have to be main job RNG , I did it with my THF / RNG , used scavange on this day like 16 times, got D/C there in pond, Reconnected in like 2 hrs , used barrage by mistake, used scavenge right after and BOOM got it! not to mention the fact that I notified SE with this prob, 2 days later and i got it, although they send me email saying "Sorry we can't help, check the manuals " lol bah i did all AFs with my thf i know how this work , i knew it was a bug hahah ...or maybe not , just my ...good luck heh GL ALL RNG FELLOWS

Ya, since the update Dec. 8, i've been trying getting this earring with Scavenge in that pond full of leeches at castle Castle Oztroja for 3 days in a raw without any results. First time i was there did like 25+ times, second day 20 times, third day 15 WITH NO FINDS ; ; wat's going on?? I have the quest, Perih Vashai told me to go to the caslt, to the pond and find the old earring ... still nothing , in the update they did say they enhanced scavenge?!!! they seem to have messed it up...

I just did the sniping bow quest. and i just tried to get the next one for the hat. im Lv 52 and she wont give it to me ; ; Do i have to wait longer b/c i just did the bow quest? or maybe something else. anywho please help me if you can ^^
When that bomb starts beatin on ya, after the cutscene is over, just shadowbind and use your scroll of instant warp. Life saver.
