New Augmented Items!

Have you ever had that one item that you can't bring yourself to sell, despite that there's other gear available that is better suited for you? Or do you really like the way a certain armor piece looks, but you don't want to buy it because it offers you no benefits in battle? Long no further, because Square Enix has released new information regarding the "Augments" system due out next month, which will allow you to modify and customize your equipment in new and unique ways. So dust off your subligars and clear the cobwebs out of your old cuirass in preparation for this newest of events.

Discuss this announcement on the ZAM forums!

From Playonline.com:

The upcoming version update will usher in the "Augments" system, a new feature that will shatter your preconceptions about equipment and breathe new life into some of your most treasured pieces of armor.

Any veteran adventurer knows the feeling:
A beloved breastplate that served you in countless epic battles...
A cherished cuirass that fended off many a vicious enemy blow...
Equipment once treasured, now auctioned off for a purseful of gil or relegated to a dank, lonely corner of your Mog House in favor of more potent apparel better suited to your burgeoning abilities.
What could be done to give these items a longer lease on life? This is the question we asked ourselves, and in the next version update, you can experience the answer—the new Augments system!

Let's examine how it will work.

*This development screenshot may not represent the final product.

As illustrated above, players will be able to customize certain pieces of equipment by adding two augments of their choice to supplement the item's base attributes. This new feature will allow for two pieces of armor bearing the same name to possess distinct capabilities, specially tailored to complement the skills of the wearer.
A wealth of heretofore unseen diversity in adventuring attire awaits you!

Needless to say, the development team is hard at work to ensure that augmented items can be enjoyed by the widest possible range of adventurers, while preserving game balance with existing items available through questing and synthesis. Furthermore, to maintain the items' exclusivity, it will not be possible to trade them to your companions, nor sell them via the auction house or bazaars. Adventurers looking to acquire augmented equipment will have to do so by their own courage and valor!

We'll be sharing even more information on this exciting new feature come release day, so be sure to check back for all the latest details!

man, even if this is only on blank armors, it is still going to be awesome. I can predict the cost of the holy breastplate rising dramaticaly.

My guess is that only "blank" armors can be augmented.
ie: Only armor that has no stat increases etc on it, just defense.

I was joking with someone the other day about augmenting Soboro with Additional Effect: Stun. LOL Brooooooken as hell

How sweet would it be to add 5INT to Moldivite earring.

I like that idea. As a rdm I'd like to have the added INT but from what they're saying you could add the INT and you can add lets say +25 or maybe even 30mp to it. Now that would be a sweet augment indeed. I think it would be nice if you added the AF weapons to this list since noone ever uses them in the first place. I'd pull out my RDM AF weapon and have some fun with it again.
Happy day!

If this lets you do it on AF pieces as well, we could finally be able to party in full AF!

I doubt they would let you augment AF seeing as they already have AF+1.

I'm seeing a distinct lack of R/EX armor. It's early to say but the way this is looking...it probably will not be worth the effort they will make it. Of course i'm sure the new Crystalline Prophecy gear will be r/ex or maybe the new augment icon is r/ex/augment. How sweet would it be to add 5INT to Moldivite earring. If I can't use it on r/ex i'll probably not care too much.

I feel the need to dust off the good 'ol rune words: OrtSol and EthRalOrtTal. Next, I will have Grizwald and Charsi battle it out... where the victor will get the privilege to murder my bank account in repair costs.
