New Add-On Series "Abyssea" Announced!

Amongst the plethora of new content that was announced at Vanafest 2010, Square Enix announced three new add-on scenarios for the parallel world of Abyssea. From new, ferocious notorious monsters to brand new equipment in styles reminiscent of Artifact and Relic armor from days of old, these new scenarios garner towards those adventurers who aren't feint of heart willing to test their mettle against hordes of new challenges.

From Playonline.com:

An announcement was made today at VanaFest 2010 for "Abyssea," an all-new three-part series of battle-oriented add-ons.

A parallel world existing beside Vana'diel, Abyssea is a land fraught with perils and home to savage hordes of heretofore unseen creatures. Ferocious, towering NMs, new-look HNMs?even the garden varieties will confound would-be challengers with their unfamiliar and formidable powers. These and a whole host more await hapless adventurers with open arms and voracious maws.

In Abyssea, concerns such as the over-population of battle areas and the need for large time investments will be a thing of the past. The development team is hard at work creating a world where parties can engage in rewarding battles with powerful foes and collect prized equipment with the least of fuss.

Good hard battles without super-ridiculous time constraints placed on them? Sounds good to me.

Like i said before, sounds good to me.

As to the sentiment that these new add-ons should be free, think about this for a few:

The mini expansions last year seem to have had a dual purpose. Both testing to see if SE could effectively make/distribute content completely online(yes they eventually made it to disk, but the 1st 3 add-ons last year were download only to begin) and to see if the players would buy them. They saw yes they could and yes we would.

An average game costs anywhere from $30 to $60.

Would you rather pay at least $30 + tax and have to go out and find a copy of these new add-ons in full-on expansion wrapping at the end of the year; or would you rather pay $10 a pop for each part of this new story as the developement team finishes them and download them right into your system from your home?

And for a 3rd time, sounds good to me.

Don't like it? Don't pay for it. Unlike the last three add-ons it sounds like they are actually adding content which I'll gladly pay for, get off your high-horse and stop with the entitlement attitude. The only things they've added for free via update were either expansion pack relevant or side quests(choco raising/racing, MMM, Conflict etc) with little reward.

This all sounds good, but so many long time players are out-of-game atm, If SE wants to bring back its old skool player force & keep current players going, it needs to bring out these kind of expansions free for all.

The monthly subscription should be enough w/o the extra of needing more money off its loyal players.

FFXI is becoming obsolete (admittable or not) with ffXIV & the many mmo's in or around the corner, so SE should really respect its current playerforce and provide these expansions free of charge.

The only thing that keeps me from canceling my account atm is the fact that I put 4 years of effort into my character, but if something was to severely change the balance of power in-game (and open up new opportunity/experiences), I'd want to get right back in there and experience it.
