Patch 1.16, set to go live on Thursday, March 3, will introduce several new sidequests to Eorzea. To go along with this, there are also a number of changes to make the questing experience smoother, as well as adjustments to the degrees of difficulty for many local levequests.

Sidequests

Sidequests are a new category of quests that are being added to the game. These will be made available through various NPCs located in each of the three cities, given that a player first fulfills certain class/rank prerequisites. The content of these endeavors vary greatly from one another, and we will continue to add further sidequests in future patches.

NPCs offering sidequests are easily distinguishable by the presence of an exclamation point (!) icon above their heads. The same icon is also displayed at sidequest NPC locations on the map and minimap. In the future, we plan to extend this feature to other quest NPCs, such as those offering class quests.

* The term "sidequests" is the new official designation for what were previously referred to as "miniquests" in several Letter from the Producer posts.

** Only sidequest NPCs within a certain distance of the player will have the ! icon displayed over their head.

Local Levequests

The objectives of certain local levequests are currently somewhat difficult to complete due to disparities between the synthesis rank of their requested items and the approximate rank needed to reach the associated aetheryte. To address this, patch 1.16 will contain adjustments to the recommended ranks, degrees of difficulty, and item types and amounts requested of these levequests.

* Levequests undertaken prior to version 1.16 will automatically be adjusted upon server restart following the patch.

So there are markers showing we have quests. Not original, but it is a little bit of a step up from running around town, barging into people's homes and bothering them to give us a quest. It's a little nice to have something to note that there is a reason to talk to the npc.

Now if only the quests weren't just absolutely horrible, or there was a damn reason to do them.

Atleast you can't see it from a mile away? Maybe it is like as you were walking by, the npc was like "damn I gotta get these fiends off my back that are lurking in mistbeard cove (even though that has nothing to do with me). Let me shout to this dude with a sword that looks like a whooping paddle and a glowing shield wearing pink chainmail... ugh.. pink"
your F@#king joking right....

..either but I think this patch is still going to be well received since it breaks up the constant grinding since it makes you do something else besdie <target>, /fight <t>!

I look forward to additional quests for Discipline of the land/hand classes as well.
Looks Good To Me

I honestly don't understand the negativity in response to this. I'm excited we're finally getting some regular quests to break up the monotonous levequest drudgery that makes you feel like you're in daily quest hell.

Maybe the exclamation points aren't original, but I, for one, am glad to see some kind of quest designator. I honestly don't care what the symbol is. I'm just glad it's there.

As with all final fantasy games, I'm sure all the NPCs will have plenty of flavor text, whether they are quest-givers or not. Doesn't mean you can't still talk to them all and read it, if you wish to do so.

This is the patch that may bring my attention back to this game. =D

So, pretty much a spitting image of job quests? I'm starting to have some doubts... ...and !'s, Oh my.
Meh to the exclamation points

Wish they would have let us find the side quests on our own, that way we have a reason for talking to random NPC's.

As long as these "mini updates" keep coming somewhat weekly I'll still be happy. But 4 comments in 5 hours...wow. Looks like people are burnt out on /facepalm-ing this game.
Seriously?

Seriously? Exclamation points in a little cloud? C'mon! coulda been at least a BIT more original... maybe a chocobo feather floating over their head or SOMETHING.
Exclamation points

Well, you can't win them all. It's hard to be overly original these days without chancing that your player base will miss the content. Whispers, shouting npc's, and the like are easily missed since most people don't pay attention to the chat log unless they are using it. Unless you want to cloud the game with chat bubbles...
D'oh..

Does the npc in the pic not look like he's in red mage armour? Which could tie in with the sketches in the producers letter of the black mage and "evil" dark knight looking armour....

or do i just spend to much time at Broken Water and never in LL to see an existing npc? lol

Exclamation marks are nice... but don't really need pointing out.
