I, too, was playing during the update and had no problems downloading it. But not too long afterwards I recieved a call from a friend of mine and he described to me the, almost, exact problems everyone here is experiencing. We are both PS2 users.

as soon as i updated, i launched PoL again and my firewall (zonealarm) detected PoL as a program that was not yet registered on my Safe list

it seems like the update changed the signature of PoL, so anyone with connexion problems try checking your firewall/router settings and adding the new version of PoL to it. This applies especially to those "network cable is unplugged" errors
connection problem

after update it restarted itself and when i tried to login again I couldnt get on, so I kept dissconnecting and reconnecting my network and it still wont connect, I keep getting POL-0019 saying it cant reach the server, so I dont think its your personal connection, just SE having technical difficulties.

I noticed that this update deals with a BGM change.

When I logged into FFXI after the update, I was in Bastok. After about 2 minutes of being online, my music started skipping or sounded really messed up.

I was wondering if this happened with anyone else.

I am on a PC - my PS2 version (second account) did not have any problems after the update.

It lasted about 2 minutes or so and then went away and then came back after about 30 seconds and lasted about 10 or 15 seconds. The problem never came back but I was wondering if this was a known issue or if this was something that happened to my computer.

Please let me know of any information that I need. Thanks!

Well, there are actually a few things that could lead to this.

1. Disk Defragmentation. Windows, be it FAT32 or NTFS fragments very easily, and is really bad if you let Windows dynamically manage your swap file. Try defragging and also try setting your swap file to a static size, say 150 - 300 percent your ram, depending on your performance. After adding new files, installing or updating an app fragmentation can be increased dramatically. The FS and FS Manager that the PS2 does is very clean compaired to Fat32 and NTFS.

2. Processes Being Consumed. You should do this anyway on a regular basis, but check for spy/ad/malware. A simple pop up add adware can eat up a 3 gigahertz processor. So you have to routinely check for those three things, plus virus.

It really sounds like the first issue since it didn't start until AFTER you updated. Be sure to defrag your hard drive on a regular basis (I do it weekly) for optimal performance.
Connection problems

Hey all! Well I feel ya'lls pains about the connection problems but here is a little advice to help get over this:

1) General network problems - depending on the time of day and how many people live in your WAN (wide area network) determines your internet speed. If you live in an area which has heavy cable modem use/traffic, then you may get delays. You have to to be patient and eventually the problem will fix itself. The other thing is call your local cable/internet company and ask them if there is maintenance going on. Sometimes they do line/server maintenance and fail to tell everyone.

2) Dial up- dial up stinks, point blank. So if you use dial up to connect, I'm sorry. Long wait times are just part of that issue.

Plus the internet isn't a 100% reliable thing, it has it's good and bad days too. 9 times out of 10 it isn't SE's fault for what goes on, but after updates there is a window in which problems, gliches and bugs are expected. SE and most other MMORPG centrals have teams assigned specifically to monitor the game following an update, to watch out for all these pesky critters. Usually most problems can be fixed with a hot patch and you'll never notice. But above and beyond, you have to be patient. The guys at SE are human too, and they work long hours, play the game endlessly etc.

If you have an issue with the game, like POL viewer, try logging out completely, restart your computer and try again. If that doesn't work, just take a break for a little while. I know, that idea stinks, but hey, sometimes you don't have a choice. It's better than sitting there for 3 hours waiting for the POL to reconnect and log you in.

If you are having problems connecting check your antivirus. Alot of people running Nortan can't connect. Just disable Norton and try or whatever firewall u r using.

I did the update, only took 2 or 3 mins. Then it said it couldn't connect, the update failed. Now it takes me staright to the update failed screen. Plus, the playonline.com support site won't come up either so i can't even send an email to complain. So i guess y'all just get to hear it.
I don't know how to fix it, but i would appreciate if any of you smart guys had some ideas.
Guess i'll go study.

they always manage to ***** things up with these updates, my POL stays loading endlessly on the "Checking Playonline Viewer versions" screen. If it's not this, their updates just make the whole connecting to POL slower. I'm truly sick of this. What am i supposed to do? If this keeps going I just might end my account. :(

You might have to create a new rule for your firewall. I was getting the same error but then saw in the background my firewall was blocking it. I guess they updated PoL as well.
I never have this prob.

I'm having trouble too. Won't go past "Authenticating DNAS" or whatever. Then gives me POL-1558 Error Code. "An Authentication Error has occured." God this thing pisses me off sometimes. They make an update and then end up ******** it up. Why do they feel the need to try and fix something if its not flippin broken ><.
