The real Question here is do you want +6 STR or +3 Attack and Accuracy? Oliphant has these and i have been using it since 40 and it helps a bunch.

The real question is: do u know what job u are ? -.-
I know there are guys and their stupid idea of "battle bard". . . . .B U T

Compared to the "melee classes" u miss any kind of melee job traits (attack/accuracy bonus, double attack. . . )or abilities (sneak attack/berserk).

Even compared to WHM or RDM u miss any decent skill in a weapon (dagger is best with a meager B-).

All weapons you can use are limited to the weak versions (rapier type swords: Nightmare sword 36dmg compared to enhancing sword 40dmg already)

Your choice of weapon skills is. . .crappy (dagger: evisceration/cyclone || sword: Fast blade unless u sub war/drk/pld/blu)

While soloing u either fight quite weak mobs where STR doesnt make too much difference anymore or ur prey is so strong, that u have other probs then a bit STR. . .besides solo usually includes /nin and then haste gets important. . .

Neither does anything on it's own. If u really wanna melee (be it pt or solo) u will have to gather alot STR/ATT/ACC gear on u to make an afford on MOBS EP+. . .and everything below doesnt count anyway.

Note: a good idea for Maat is to stack up on VIT/DEF/REGEN and acc/haste as much as u can. Use a 150delay dagger (hornetneedle) and spam Cyclone because Cyclone dmg is roughly equal to you're dmg. It's most likely the easiest and cheapest way to try it.

You're also forgetting as a bard you will probably be singing min and mad, min x 2, or march and min, etc. If you had min and mad you get a huge atk and acc bonus, which while you may be ballading or other things, when you have the time (if you do) melee can actually do pretty decent at lower levels. Once you get higher bards tend to get a bit busier, but the important comparison is that while bard lacks JAs or JTs that boost DDness they can pop their acc and atk up a ton, which is basically a JA in itself. With the right gear you can do decent swings compared to non-bard buffed DDs, though as you get higher gear, wep, and ws options do begin to infringe on bard's ability to DD in between songs.

How i use mine~

Well it looks like they didn't use my submission. that explained that it totals for +6 str whenever you have a song on.
Equip it when you're not singing anything because besides this, Hamelin and Angel Lyre, nothing else gives any effect besides to a song, basicly burning a hole in your inventory. Think about it, you have all your instruments macroed to equip whenever you sing the appropriate song, RIGHT? so might as well make use of that inventory slot when you're not singing. and by the way, losing CHR doesn't matter when you're not singing so it's a moot point.
think of it as a bard bomb core, it's not an instrument, it's a free stat boost in a slot you're not using anyway~
Additional Uses (instead of Maat fight)

That, and it'd be good for soloing, missions, and/or quests, where you actually do melee.
I'm keeping an eye on the AH for one of these.

The Latent effect is active as long as you have a song on you. So this is good for the Maat fight.
Play a song with the fife, then just switch it out.

The STR+4 (or +6, if the latent +4 stacks with the initial +2) wouldn't stay on you if you took the instrument off, would it? I would think that you would play songs with their respective instruments, and when you're fighting, you put this on, and since you have song effects on you, the latent effect would be active. So you have the added bonus playing songs with their instruments that boost their length and performance, and you would have more Strength. Sort of a weird instrument, I wouldn't call it the worst, as one poster did, but it is unusual. As some people said, perhaps it would be good for the Maat fight. And since it's level 66, that's probably what SE intended it for.

yeah we all know how hard Maat is for our friends bards... some extra power should be welcomed ^^.

and.. well some bards are actually soloing and being good at it so why not, at least, macro it for ws.

well I could be wrong on if instruments remove TP when removed from the range slot like other ranged weapons do, but macroing it in for a WS wouldn't work if thats the case.

changing instruments does not remove TP.
i guess since you can't knock a mob upside the head with one, it doesn't technically count as a weapon as far as SE is concerned ^^

it would be used like this.

regular instrument on, play a song. end of song macro this instrument on. when you need a new song, equip the other instrument. and switch this out after the song takes effect. so this instrument would be on a majority of the time.
