Um... Where did you get "Samurai can use this dagger" from? That SMN means Summoner.
If it's black mage and something with sm in it only, it's almost certainly a Kris type dagger, which means usable by black mages and SUMMONERS. And they always seem to leave options for everyone to use something other than "the best," if they wish to. Kris knives seem like a decent solo weapon...at least, before black mages picked up scythes. Might still be interesting for a smn/blm or smn/rdm.
Of course, I could be entirely wrong, as I didn't look this thing up on the AH myself. Maybe it IS samurai and black mage.

Considering right now there's only one Scythe out for BLMs and it fairly sucks even for farming (they could at least give us Guilotine...), Dagger is a nice alternative especially if you slap a /RDM onto the deal for enspells and extra dagger abilities.
Staff, especially with the level 215 weapon skill "Spirit Taker" is still the best weapon for a BLM. Even if our selection of staffs is screwed compared to WHM/PLD/MNK....

is it me or for a few update the new item are weird O_o why would a SAM use a dagger O_o and i dont think any BLM will trade his ice staff for that while fighting lol...
