Well, since no one is really talking about this AF I will!

This AF body piece is somewhat usefull:

+ Macro in for Lullaby/Horde when you get Nursemaid's Harp lvl.60(AF +3 string)
+ Macro in for other songs that you use a String Instrument
- (and unfortunately thats all) =(

+ Justaucorps (+2/3 CHR) is better to wear or Gaudy Harness(+3 CHR refresh @-20%mp approx), till 70+ when Errant and other cool stuff are available.

So to sum it up:

Wear it to look somewhat cool, but there are other body peices that can help your BRD out too. ^^

enmity is the correct name for agro. so -1 enmity is a good thing as it means it lowers your agro on the creature. +enmity is for wars, pld, mele chars and -enmity is for rng, blm, whm, brd, smn ext. hope that helps

also, you wouldn't think that non tanking melee would want enmity+ considering that would mean when they hit they get hate off the tank more easily, making the tank's job a whole lot harder

Actually one melee job that benefits from Enmity+ gear is Thf, so that when they SATA, they put more hate onto the tank.

This can go for other melee jobs that can SATA.

Sorry I just want to make a corretion to your statement, enmity = hate, not agro, agro is dependant on your level and ability for the mob to detect you. so you could have -100 enmity but still get agro, all that means is that a whm could cast protect on you and draw hate.

um, i'm nowhere near this lvl in my bardy yet, but i'm confused as to what enmity is actually for. could someone please help out? :P

Enmity minus helps you NOT get so much hate. Just yesterday, I was just standing there...not doing anything...and the puller comes in with a mob, and it pounds me (the puller's RA missed). O.0;; Crazy charisma. Hope that helps.

Um, no. SE themselves said that CHR does not directly affect hate. However, according to most paladins I've talked to, CHR does affect the potency of Provoke.

I have no idea how you could be a level 47 BRD and be under the impression that BRDs get a lot of hate. From levels 1 to 53 as a BRD, I've probably pulled hate from the tank about twice, and only because the tank was doing something horribly wrong, like not provoking enough.

As far as why there's -enmity on this item, there really doesn't need to be any reason. Just about all AF armor for all the jobs gives at least some sort of incredibly useless stats.

No.. -enmity is very useful.

A good bard is BRD/WHM.

After you do elegy, threnody, barspell, 2melee songs, (ballad should be put on mages between pulls), and possibly prelude on the ranger. The rest of the fight, you should be a whm. Fixing any ailments on the party members, and curing. Not to mention emergency curaga's when fighting mobs that do ~300dmg to everyone. Bards don't have much hate during the fight as a 'bard'. I can sneak off divine seal+curaga II sometimes, without the mob looking at me with all the -enmity gear, and if it does look at me, only for 1-2 hits. Before I -enmity, (at a lower lvl, so no curaga II yet), divine seal+curaga got me hate like crazy. I even wear a peace ring for one more -enmity(and some MP ^^).

What do you do the whole fight if you aren't helping the heal? All the songs are up, the mob is debuffed... you have MP with a /WHM sub just sitting there. No, you shouldn't be a WHM, but you should help with status ailments and emergency healing, reapplying debuffs if they wear off to soon, keeping the mob dispelled, etc. You're not helping anyone by recasting Minuet every 30 seconds.

and you might not think that Vit+3 is important,but IMO, i think it is, especially if you equip a monster signa, which i'm currently am.^^
hmmm, vit+3 with monster signa vit-5= me being vit -2....hmmm, *shrug* at least it doing something^^

Terra staff (HQ earth) makes a huge difference when trying to land Elegy, the strength of the elegy, and the length of time it remains in place.

Apollo's staff (HQ light) does the same with Lulaby.

On BLM's, HQ staves improve damage by 15%, NQ by 10%, and I believe the enfeebling/debuff songs/spells (Elegy, Paralyze, Slow, Sleep etc) are also given a 15% boost with the HQ staff of their respective element.

The +CHR from the allmighty Monster signa isn't as good as the bonus from the NQ elemental staves, or the HQ ones.

WHM's have enoug problems keeping their MP up, even with double ballad, and in HNM communities, even with Refresh/double ballad/summoner sub/noble's tunic I have some problems keeping MP up. Having a BRD there with their measly 150 mp is like adding 150 mp to my mana pool, and if they go all out on MP gear, they can get 400+ mp. That's enough healing for me to get my MP up to par when I run out. EMN- then plays a role in keeping the bard from pulling hate.

In XP PT's, I adore those bards who help heal, on top of getting their 6+ songs off (Elegy, Requiem, 2 songs on melee, ballad x2, and prelude/etude on a RNG if you have one). They reduce the ammount of healing I do, lowering my hate, making it easier on the tank, and keeping my MP up, allowing for more fights before downtime giving a higher yield of xp/hr.

Lightstaff/Earthstaff > monster signa.

Just so that this post doesn't hang around forever, being unreplied-to and misinforming BRDs...

Elemental staves help land songs of their respective elements in a different way than CHR, and you should be able to pile on a ton of CHR in other slots. Earth Staff should be used for Elegy, for example. Please see the BRD forum here for further details.

And yes, BRD songs can draw significant amounts of hate, especially in long fights. And yes, a good BRD will help heal the party and do status cures IN ADDITION TO keeping all the songs up.
