clothespole wouldnt get it for me... kept saying item was too small to catch with that rod... composite rod is 10k mite as well buy the scroll.. so i bought a yew pole for 500 gil and used lugworms.. got it on first try with the cheap yew pole.. have 0 fishing skill.. ^^

just got it first time today, took me 4 tries with just a clothespole and lugworms XD. shoulda done it a long time ago. simply catching this thing is quest activated, so you dont need a high fishing lvl.

Went as WHM71 to the usual spot after loosing a Sabaki Rig (-.-) near the Norg zone doors. Had to go to my mule to get some Little Worms. >< I got the damp scroll on my second try (first time I caught a cobalt jellyfish) fishing at (J-12). Here is what I used and my stats at the time:

I used to catch these all the time while fishing, but since I completed the quest I haven't gotten one in hours. It must be you can no longer catch it after you have done the quest, which is a shame.
I'm just wondering why I can't seem to catch this scroll anymore.
Back in the day, when I unlocked Ninja and collected my Ninja spells, I went out to SSG with a Halcyon Rod, put Sneak on, and fished the Damp Scroll up in about 8 tries (running back to hide in a tunnel and reapply Sneak whenever it began to wear off). I traded that Damp Scroll the spring at Horlais Peak, got my Jubaku: Ichi, and was happy.
Fast-forward to today. I now fish in SSG for profits all the time, using my Lu Shang's Rod and Shrimp Lure (and not bothering with Sneak anymore). I fish there for many hours a week sometimes, usually standing in about the same place that I stood when I fished up my Damp Scroll.
I've caught hundreds of fish, and numerous items such as Coral Fragments, Rusty Buckets, Pamtam Kelp, 1 Gil, and Norg Shells (which always get automatically thrown back because I have a Norg Shell in storage).
But in all of these hundreds of catches, I've never caught another Damp Scroll. Not even one.
I don't have my old first Damp Scroll hanging around, as I traded it to complete the quest.
Do you become automatically disqualified from catching a Damp Scroll ever again when you have completed the Jubaku: Ichi quest?

I just try today to catch it... i always got my Fishing equipement but have a Carbon Fishing Rod and some Little Worm... i try to catch it and got it after 4 Little worm..
This is an Item, i never saw an item who can think "I dont want to catch this Fishing Tackle" so you probably can catch it with any rod and any fishing tackle...

I'm doin the ninja quests right now and the dang damp scroll is 70K!!! Whats up with that?

I feel your pain i just did this quest myself i see that I could buy a shrimp lure for 60k or the scroll for 70k so i bought the lure and went to the pond J-12 sea serpent. my fishing skill lvl 10 took 3 trys and i got the scroll either i was lucky or its not that hard to get. sold the lure back and got my scroll.
Nice! You coulda kept the shrimp lure and kept selling the scrolls XD (one at a time tho). If they're still 70k, its not a bad way to skill up and make a little gil. I was too lazy to fish it out. Good job!

In the Cerberus server, this scroll sells for 20k in Norg/Bastok AH, in all other AH it goes up to 8k. I tried to fish using a rod and bait in SSG as suggested below, I fished out a pug the first attempt ><, I could not defeat it myself even it is weak and worthless to my level 52 WHM. Fortunatelly, someone was there to kill it for me. Later I got no catch or I only fished out a pamtam kelp and a norg shell, and at last I fished out a powerful pug again.... which unfortunatelly, killed me in few hits before I could heal myself... ; ; so I went back to HP and gave up :(

This is used in the quest for jubaku: ichi.
i just fished it up in sea serpant grotto with composite and a shrimp lure.. you will have to snea k fish.. :P

I was having no luck whatsoever finding this scroll on the AH, so I used Spladian's recommended equipment. Composite Rod, Shrimp Lure, and WHM for sneak. I went to the "Lake" at J-12 (initial map of SSG). First and second castings came up without a bite. Third cast was a Damp Scroll!
My fishing skill is 1. Anyone can fish one up!
