I don't see this mentioned here, but I just learned (since I needed 357 points to break it [and I got 57 points in Dynamis tonight]) that you cannot use your weapon and expect to gain points for it in Dynamis. They will not count which makes it totally useless, sadly.
Oops, I forgot to add that to my *note statement. You are correct. You are only awarded the higher point if you close the Skillchain. Starting any Level 1, 2, or 3 skillchain will only reward 1 point.
I do not believe that there is a 5 point award for any skill chains, I was doing some Darkness SC's today on some VT+ and up mobs and earned 318 points according to CeeFive's theory. The latent has not unlocked, and I am 100% certain on my tally based upon my parser and my hand recorded results. The way I see it with my points for the 5 point SC's that I did reduced to 3 points per SC, It makes me at about 287, I'll be back to confirm or reject my result when I obtain the latent effect degredation.
I was finishing LVL3 darkness SCs on robber crabs. I got 720xp, with an avg of 9xp per mob. That's 80 mobs. Sure, I missed a couple SCs, but not 20+ mobs worth.
While this isn't as accurate as a parser (PS2), it still should be pretty close.
<um...> this weapon skill is a lvl 240 Katana skill and could be used at lvl 69 if SE didnt ***** up and make the katana lvl 72 which is complete BS. Anyways you dont need to have any skill points put into your Katana skill to get this quest, otherwise how do you think anyone had gotten this ws b4 SE put in the option of getting skill points for ppl already at 75.
I'm sorry, but your information is incorrect. The Katana itself is a level 71 weapon, however you can not obtain it until you are level 72 and your current katana skill must be at a minimum of 250 (capped at 249 at level 71). What you are referencing are called "Merit points" which are obtainable post level 75 and do not apply to this quest. There are some jobs/weapons that have a A, and A+ rating which can begin their quests at level 71 with a minimum weapon skill level of 230 (club) and 240 (A+, thf/dagger, drg/polearm, pld/sword). Unfortunately, in our case, we are an A- with katana and this particular WS quest requires that we have a minimum weapon skill of 250 (cap 249 at 71, cap 254 at 72) before Ryoma will give it to us. /comfort
Turns out the crab is 100% immune to elemental spells. Took 0 damage to Thunder IV, Blizzard IV, even Hyoton: Ni. Plan according, a blm is little more than a stunner/healer for this fight ; ;
I know this post is a year old but they must have changed this recently or something, my 74 rdm was doing 300+ blizzard 3s on him(with es and w/o) which is about half of what I usually do with blizzard 3. So he isnt ummune with elemental, only he takes about half damgage.
Requirements: Level 71+ with minimum 250 Katana skill.
NOTE* You can not obtain this quest until you have reached level 72 and gained the 1 katana skill point needed to hit 250. Since katana is an A- weapon it will cap at 249 at level 71 and he will not let you start the quest. /sigh
Talk to Ryoma in Norg to recieve the quest. You are given Key Item: Weapons Training Guide, and the katana "Kodachi of Trials". You must train your weapon by using weapon skills and participating in skill chains to earn points and remove the latent effect of the weapon. You must accumulate a total of 300 points before returning to norg and trading it back to Ryoma. The "Latent Effect" attribute will not disappear when you examine the katana, however you can tell if you've reached the quota because your HP will not increase by 20 if unequiped and re-equiped. If you have made this minimum point quota on the weapon he will give you another key item and you must now head to Labrinth of Onzozo. Go to Southwest corner of I-5 and examine the ??? and Megapod Megalops (Crab) will spawn. We were able to easily defeat him with 1 71 Ranger, 63 Red Mage, and myself (72 NIN). He has pretty high defense, alot of hit points and hits like a freight train if you get caught with your shadows down (300-400+). The fight is very straight forward and he can easily be debuffed with Slow, Paralyze, Blind, etc. Once you have defeated Megapod Megalops, examine the ??? and obtain your final key item. At this point return to Ryoma in Norg and speak with him to obtain your new 250 WS Blade: Ku.
Points earring system (* The trail weapon must be in your main weapon slot to obtain points, and you must close the Skillchain in order to obtain the higher point.): 1 point = Single Weapon Skill 2 point = Level 1 Skill chain 3 point = Level 2 Skill chain (Fusion, Fragmentaion, Distortion) 5 point = Level 3 Skill chain
