You need to actually be in yellow HP to make this ring proc, finding the 75~76% mark (and <100% TP) and getting blow it with Zenith/other gear isn't good enough to activate it
It seems ok, but WHM's auto-regen trait limits it's effectiveness a bit. Even with hp gear to macro on and off, youll eventually creep back up to turn the latent off. It will add potency but at the cost of adding quite a bit of complexity to your whm role.
If the latent on this is HP at 75% of your base natural (simliar to how the sorcerer's ring for blms work), this is undervalued ring... a year ago the sorc ring was selling for 10K because everyone thought it was yellow HP and TP at 0.. now its running at 3million because people figured out its HP at 75% of your base HP and TP less then 100. As a high level with zenith gear, it is sooo easy to hit that 75% marker. I predict this ring will be worth a lot more down the road when people use it more effectively.
Well, I tried this, 973 HP with no gear, 718 HP with convert gear + medicine ring, which is about 73~74% of natural hp, and my cures were the same with or without it.
This can be used very easily when fighting mobs that poison you, such as crawlers and antlions. Let your Hp tick down into yellow, cast Poisona on yourself once it's dipped down low enough. Auto-regen means your Hp will tick back up on their own, so make sure you get poisoned again when you need your Hp to drop some :)
So if this is a Yellow HP trigger, less then 100% YP could it be more worthwhile for Soloing and questing rather then party play? Since it can cut down your MP useage when farming and what not.
I had this ring but i was told by one person that it only works when you have SMN as a sub.. then i was told by a lvl 75 WHM/SMN the same thing. Im confused.. i dont wanna get this ring and than it not even work.
Hrm... seems like you have to take some ammount of damage before the latent effect kicks in... I've used this ring a lot and it's only kicked in a couple times, so I'm gonna say: to me, it's not worth it...
I just got the medicine ring and have not had a chance to use it. I am skeptical as if it is worth the 20K but I will give it a shot. Did I hear someone say they got it for 4K on another server? Good lord must be nice LOLOL! I will let ya know the outcome. I hope it gives some decent use! I am not too excited about this latent effect thing with the HP in yellow. I am also not keen on the /equip macs. Eh Maybe I should just get another electrum ring hee hee
Here's what I do... because the +10% items stack, and I burn off more than 50MPs before I use a cure macro (Dia II, Regen II on tank, Haste on main melee damage dealer), I have the following macroes:
Cure Macro: (same macro for Cure, Cure II, Cure III, Cure IV, etc...) /ma "Cure" <t> /equip Main "Light Staff" /equip L.ring "Medicine Ring" /equip R.ring "Aquamarine Ring"
This ensures that I rest to fullest MP possible at full speed (with Astral Rings and Dark Staff), and as soon as I cast the first cure spell, I cure for max (my Cure II does 228 if my health is in the yellow) AND I have MND +3 for things like Bar- spells, magic DEF etc... I don't get the MND +3 for the first few spells I cast while I'm burning off 50 MPs, but it's a small price to pay... WHM is a job that can benefit GREATLY from learning how to use macroes. You do NOT have to put a /wait command in the macro to change multiple items... if you wanted to, you could have a macro just to change 6 items. Another thing I did was to get a bunch of Evasion+ gear, and, using the same format, macroed it into my Benediction and Curaga III macroes. Learn advanced macroes, and get a bunch more gear, it's VERY worthwhile.

Since I have the Red Hat+1 and can make my own Ginger Cookies - let me share my last three lines of my healing macro to take advantage of the MP+5 while healing. I had to edit also and place the <mp> alert line on a separate macro to take advantage of this feature.
Last three lines are:
/item "Ginger Cookie" Vallor <<< use your name /wait 3 /heal
those 5 additional MP add up during a full healing cycle and can get you 'full' 20-30 seconds sooner - parties will love ya !
hey guys i was reading all your posts b4 i bought the ring. then i said ***** it cuz its only 4k on lakshmi, so i bought it. ok i must say this ring is really worth it. ok this is what i found out. since i have a light staff that adds potency as well, my cures went as follows cure2=110 hp, cure3=229, cure4=436. all of this was on firesday so i dont know what they would be like on lightsday. but yes this is latent effect so i was in yellow when i got the effect...but it was on every cure not random ones. lightsday potency is the one thats random not the ring.
Recently I have seen alot of 50+ items with the 10% cure mod.. and i want to know if it stacks and if so how much can you get total.
because staff + af + ring + earring = 40% more and if you were to get more items than this we are talkin some big cure possiblities which allows us to compensate for lower mp... (stupid taru)
When you equip this ring it doesn't make every heal 10% higher, its random. Basically, if you're healing for 190, every once in a while it will heal for 209. Essentially, it makes every day like its light day, and makes lightday occasionally add 20% to cures instead of 10%.
EDIT: Ok, I've fiddled with it and figured it out and confirmed it with other LS members who have latent effect gear. Latent effect items work when your hp are in the yellow or lower. So, if your hp turn yellow, when you cast cure spells they will heal for 10% more - every time! Personally, my favorite trick now is to keep electrum rings on, and when I burn the 20 mp off one gives me, I throw on the medicine ring. Usually the mob will AE and put me in the yellow at some point and the +10% heals are nice.
I'm still trying to nail down the latent effect on this one. Its a puzzle, because i've had it kick in plenty of times when my health is at full!
Using this ring with light staff i've gotten about 2/10 success rate for an additional 10% with full health. Its effect seems almost similar to the "Additional Effect" from most weapons. Doesnt hit all the time, but hits sometimes.
It does seem that the success rate is greatly increased when your health is in yellow. Like up to 6/10 success or higher depending on luck.
I have not seen TP affect its success rate much.. I use this item all the time when farming tigers and i usualy carry +100% tp with my thf sub so i can sneak attack/WS
And for the record, this does stack quite nicely with the additional 10% from the light staff. My CureII's land at 111hp when this activates.
I wish SquareEnix would just come clean and tell us WTF is up with these items.
It raises it over cap easy, my cure III normally does 191 with this it was doing like 220 per cure III. I do not change my rings as i was using the windy ring (no mnd and only 3 mana) til i switched to this. Now any good AoE makes me use this to full potential as well as when i solo. I cant confirm as i havent tested it yet but i think it also does more damage to undead when using cure as I thought I was doing more than normal when i was hunting for RSE in Gusgan Mines.
You used the Windurstian ring untill level 50? You have to be the worst equiped WHM I've ever heard of. Glad we're on different servers so I don't have the misfortune of being in a PT with you.
Hey now, be nice. :P Sometimes it's not purly the equipment that makes a person who they are! ^^ (Although it does help!) Besides that...I had the Justice Badge up untill level 50. :P But the reason was because I was saving all my money for the Dark Staff, and other uber gear! ^^
No, this ring does not make cure spells go over the healing cap. I would also think it would, but you're still capped at the same level every one else is. So lame. It dosn't even effect your Cure damage to undead.
Yes, but 'latent effect' meens it will only work when you've taken damage, so it rarly kicks in.
I tried keeping one in my inventory to equip mid battle if the going gets hairy but it didn't work out very well (if i'm taking damage I have better things to be doing than equiping different gear).
Feb 2004 I probably mid 50's? Allah updates your signature on old posts I see! Naw, everything I said in this post is BS, I didn't know anything about gear macro's at the time. It's trivialy easy to activate the ring and macro it in. Step inside aoe a little bit, or macro in and out a few peices of zenith gear and it's triggerable at will.
