Wrong. THF has an A or A+ skill in Parry.

too bad it's the toughest thing for us to skill.

Three jobs are tied for the highest parrying skillcap.

THF and SAM parrying skill both cap at 269.

They both have the same so this statement is correct:

The third job with a 269 parrying skillcap is NIN.

Also Corsair is tied in there, highest most useless skill for cor

Edit: are these worth dualing for nin with capped parry?

I'm using this on my 32 pld. A bit odd to see a pld with a dagger, but not like my sword is actually going to damage something either. Probably replace it with war sword at 34, but at the moment I like it.

i am a 25 thf who dual wield's those knives and I can vouch first hand that the extra 20 in parrying have helped me avoid hits when i occasionally draw aggro from SA. I parry more, and this is without heavy evaision equipment. At higher levels, i would assume that parrying would be overshadowed by evasion in nin, sam and thf. I gather that most people dont get to cap this skill, so at lower levels the knives prove to be quite valuable.

I'd think the real use for this would be in skilling up multiple things at the same time.

For instance, skilling up marksmanship, evasion, shield, and parrying.

Equip a shield and parrying knife, use cheap crossbow bolts to drag a Mandragora (or some other light hitting mob) to a zone line. Engage him in combat.

As you'll be using level 1 bolts and a light damage dagger, it should take quite a while to kill the Mandragora. You should get skillups for Shield, Marksmanship, Evasion, and Parrying until capped against that particular mob (Marksmanship and Evasion should cap first).

I've noticed that Parrying skills up slower than anything else, at least for me. My Shield skill is even higher than Parrying, and I often use a 2 handed weapon.

Isn't parrying supposed to be a job trait perfected by the Red Mage??? Why can't we use this knife?

They threw in the Hawker's Knife for BST and that's one of (if not THE) only knife they can use....

Actually according to the following skill chart:

here)

Red mage is rated E in parrying. Thief, Sam and Nin seem to be best at it.

Disengaging
# Sep 06 2004 at 3:46 AM Rating: Decent
Ok I just bought this knife, and went to Windy with LS members for keys to get to Khazam. I swear that the first monsters I fought when their life was about 3/4 down, I would automatically disenage! I was playing on a different computer and on dial up (was on vacation)has this happened to anyone else? Or was it my computer/internet? Is there any kind of option to disengage early? Help me out please! Thanks!

it doesn't disengage, the monster is dead, but instead of falling, it disappears ...

i think its from either a bug or just server lag,
don't worry about it ...

if it continues, just call a GM ...
Looks good...

I'm wondering if this knife is really worth it. It's only 5k on Fairy server in Bastok, so it won't burn a hole in my pocket, since I always have at least 6k with me for some odd reason. Anyway, for some odd reason I SA and always seem to get aggro, and it takes the WAR a good minute to voke it again. Anyway, my Evasion is capped, my shield skill is up, and my parry is decent, would +10 help me even more in not getting hit?
expensive?

I'm a 25 BRD/NIN and I have to say this is a great weapon to Dual Wield for my main job. Since I use Utsusemi to avoid damage from the occasional song aggro (or when I need to use Foe Lullaby, which seems to pull more hate than Provoke), the +20 Parrying from two Parrying Knives allows me to parry a few attacks saving me some Utsusemi losses. They also do decent damage and have sub-200 delay, which adds up to quick TP. I would suggest that any BRD/NIN use these until they can dual wield Shellbusters at 48.

Bought one last night. Yes, this knife looks mighty cool. After I cap my katana skill, I'm gonna equip it in my off-hand. Hmmm, maybe even after my katana skill is capped, I should trying dual wielding two!

Well I tested it out. With a high level RDM watching over me, I tested it out against a MNK-type mob that conned as IT to me.

As a NIN with utsusemi NOT up, I dual-wielded 2 of these parry knives and went to work. First fight: I parried once and no skillup. Second fight: I parried twice and no skillup. I did notice that the mob was missing me a lot so I took off any +evasion gear I had on and did the same thing again. Third fight: I parried one and no skillup.

Hmmmm. I parry a lot more with my katanas. I haven't tried these parry knives in a exp PT yet. I will try this in a PT and see what happens :( I don't think these things work well with NINs *cry*

So far, I am not impressed with +20 Parrying Skill. It makes me wonder if your skill needs to be capped in order for the +20 parry to be noticeable. Then again, if you skill is capped, you won't be able to notice that much of a difference.

If your skill is really low and you use these, you will probably not see much of a difference.

If your skill is capped it will add +20 to your skill, so you would have the parrying of someone 8 levels higher than you.. Or it would be like parrying Vs. a mob 8 levels lower than what you are fighting.

Because other daggers aren't Parrying knives. :)
