rdm isnt a gimped sub,only your brain is gimp.
i use rdm as sub for all sub jobs till 13.
and i sub rdm 4 my dark at 35.with my signal pearl going its almost like im a party of 3 ,while solo.1 dd,i feeb(sub)1 prov help.
now i know its not the optimal sub 4 melee jobs...but who cares im not in a party,i can kill alot quicker with feebs .
and ive gotten blk to 42,warr to 35 and dark to 35 all with rdm sub.i can use other sub jobs...but i dont want to.
so in closing rdm isnt a gimped sub...its the best sub till u get to the dunes,hands down.

Level 30 Subjob Items
There are level 30 Earrings, Shields, Belts and Mantles that all trigger on Latent Effects. These all correspond with a job.
All of them activate via Subjob. Nothing else will trigger these to activate, NOT main job, ONLY subjob.
The newest jobs (Blu, Cor, Pup) do not have these items (as of 7/27/06).
There are other Latent effect items that trigger at different things such as Low HP, <100% tp, a bard song on you, This is NOT one of those items.
The only thing that activates these items is your subjob.

RDM is one of the best starting jobs it can be used in many ways and weapons aswell as armor and spells DONT CALL RDM GIMPED. >.< thank you for listening.
My sword skill is 196 and I really want to use Vorpal Blade.
RDM, while a gimped sub, still gives some minor benefit from this item, unlike some other belts.

Red mage isn't a gimped subjob. You just have to know how to use it. For example, any job that has a natural enhancing magic (PLD and WHM) can make great use of a RDM sub. I, being a PLD, have used PLD/RDM since 68 when I had Phalanx and Stoneskin w/ RDM sub (34). Because Phalanx and Stoneskin are both based on enhancing magic other jobs can make just as good a use of their awesomeness. Going as PLD/RDM and using a Kinkobo (w/ spirit taker), I can solo most anything up to Even match. Very good indeed. n_n

The belt's Latent Effect is triggered by rdm sub. This has been confirmed because I'm a lvl 59 pld, and I subbed rdm with the belt and was able to use Vorpal Blade (lvl 60 ws). No, it doesn't work with pld sub, that's the shield belt.

No... A RDM's prefered weapon (And AF weapon) is a Rapier, so I'm pretty sure this one is triggered by /RDM sub-job.
I Myself don't like to use Rapiers... I like to use pretty much any other Sword (if it was a GM's Judgment Rapier (not Listed on this Site) I'd wear it) I was willing to wear it when it was my AF1 but thats it... Also I'll use a Rapier for Sub-weapon while Soloing
I'm pretty sure this Latent Effect is triggered by having PLD as your sub, seing as how PLD is best job with a Sword. Not 100% sure, but I know these belts are triggered by your subjob, like the earrings, so the Sarashi is triggered by having NIN as your Sub (Enhances Dual Wield Effect).
If the "latent effect" is like the BCNM30 earrings then it's triggered by your subjob, not by low hp.
But I hope people keep on thinking all latent effect items are hp triggered, it keeps the prices down ^^
