A simple set

I did this one with 2 other friends of mine and we beat the record all three times.
Setup was:
Pld/War
Pld/War
Nin/Blu(me) wanted to try an out of the box approach.

What we did was of course buff up and I chose to eat a jack-o-lantern. The reason, was for the inc EVA and Arcana killer. After buffing we went up to the entrance of the open room and selected one of the the three monsters to solo. One of the paladins then used the def job ability and pulled all 3. We each grabbed our mobs and went to seperate corners of the arena. That was so the aoes of the weapons would stack. I was able to land Blu spells pretty easily I also used the slow, blind, and paralyze jutsus. This made the battle too easy. After we finishedoff our mob we would go and take out the one with the lowest hp.

NOTE: Some important things you must do, is make macros for each weapon type. Also if you want to save tp, and use crossbows do not switch to a piercing weapon. Lastly, find out what type of classes have special damage types. E.g épée, a sword class, does piercing damage.
Couple more spells

Thought I'd post these 2 other spells that worked very well in this BCNM. Me and my friends didn't win, as the RDM didn't really stick with the plan and the others just weren't into it enough to really care. Which made me sad, I really wanted to win this one. But here's 2 more spells that did excellent damage in this for other BLU's that attempt this BCNM.

Sprout Smack-Blunt Damage + Slow. Did a little over 50 HP of damage(which suprised me honestly) and the Slow effect lasted about 5-6 minutes on the Weapon. I was amazed to see it last that long.

Feather Storm-Piercing Damage + Poison. It did almost 100 HP of damage, the Poison effect I didn't see if it stuck or not or how long it lasted if it did >< Sorry.

While we wiped on my Orb, it was still nice to see.

Just take my advice don't try and kill them off one at a time while trying to have the RDM bind one and Grav kite the other. It's pointless and takes too much MP. Just have the RDM focus on just one while 2 of you work on the the other 2, one a piece. I spent most my MP using Wild Carrot on the RDM because she didn't want to except her role of Healer/Kiter, and decided to try and help kill. After she decided to do that, the 3rd Weapon decided to join in on the fun. And while I was able to handle 2 Weapons pounding on me at a time, the 3rd was the straw that broke my back. And it went downhill from there with a quickness.

But at least she got out without a death, I provided enough hate that the Weapons didn't start running after her until after I died. The War that was with us couldn't Voke off of me for the life of him, and was only chased by one of the Weapons.

And it was nice to see that absolutely none of my spells got interrupted, even while getting pounded by 3 Weapons at a time I was still able to get off every single spell I tried casting.^^

Good Luck to others, as luck was not on my side.^^

Pretty easy.
# Jan 03 2007 at 4:38 PM Rating: Decent
Done this with two different setups, although fairly similar.

First setup:

PLD/WAR
DRK/THF
RDM/WHM

Myself (PLD) and the DRK took the front two mobs and solo'd them while the RDM would use Bind and Gravity on the back mob. Whoever killed their mob first would join in on the other, then take out the RDM's mob.

Went 3/3 with drops totaling over 1.3 million gil.

Second setup:

PLD/WAR
SAM/THF
RDM/DRG

Pretty similar, except we did it a little different way. I would voke the Polearm weapon (Front Left), which would draw hate from all of them. The RDM would bind the Club Weapon (Front Right) while the SAM would position himself behind the Sword Weapon. He would Hasso and Meditate with Sneak Attack, causing big damage to start. He had it timed well where he could get in another Meditate and Weapon Skill before his mob would change back.

We went 6/6 since we made two separate trips. Ended up with a variety of Latent effect Earrings and Belts, some random rusty picks, two Mannequin bodies, and two Mannequin hands.

All in all, very fun BCNM with good profit. Haven't seen Utsusemi: Ni yet, but I know it's probably the hardest to get.

Aced this three times with this setup:

BLU/NIN - Valiere (me)
BLU/NIN - Junyi
RDM/BLM - Priphea

Here was my spellset:

Cocoon (defense boost)
Head Butt (blunt damage + stun)
Bludgeon (blunt damage)
Claw Cyclone (slashing damage)
Screwdriver (piercing damage)
Blastbomb & Bomb Toss (didn't use, for the +STR)
Wild Carrot (a "just in case" healing spell, only used once)
Metallic Body (stoneskin)

I brought along a lot of hi-potions and hi-ethers expecting this to be difficult, but I only ended up using two or three ethers in three runs. We used meat mithkabobs, rice dumplings, and tavnazian tacos respectively. This is a cakewalk if you're towing along Blue Mages.

After entering, we buff up (Utsusemi, Metallic Body, Blink, Protect, Shell) and rest to full. We run in, BLUs Cocoon. The RDM chooses the polearm weapon to kite; one BLU takes the club one, and the other BLU the sword one. If it has a club over its head, the BLU spams Bludgeon and Head Butt. If it has a sword, the BLU slashes away and uses Claw Cyclone. If it has a polearm, the BLU uses Screwdriver and kind of hopes it changes soon, because Screwdriver is kind of an "iffy" spell for lack of a better word. If one BLU finishes off their weapon first, they go help the other BLU. After both are done, everyone trios the final weapon. Piece of cake.

Notable drops were wyvern and genin earrings, as well as some mannequin parts, and other assorted items. We're going to make this a habit since we were so successful and hopefully get a scroll of Utsusemi: Ni, knock on wood.
Wow....Blu pwns this BCNM
# Dec 04 2006 at 1:00 AM Rating: Decent
Just did this BCNM and set the record @ 6 min( about a min was us resting to full after Buffs) setup was:

BLU/nin <me> Sole Sushi, Yagudo Drink, Utsusmi
SMN/whm (Deeps) Yagugo Drink, Aerial Armor
SAM/war (Gatrie) Sole Sushi, Aerial Armor
    battle plan was
: get in buff up( protectra, aerial armor, food, Meditate, full heal, Yagudo Drink for SMN and BLU). SMN sent carby after the Club-weapon while DRG went after the Peircing-weapon with a Polearm, he also braught a GKT and Club for when the weapon switched imunities. I went after the Slashing weapon with 2 Centurion's Sword and Claw Cyclone. after we got targets we all ran in different directions to get away from AoE dmg while the SMN cured us. the weapons hit for about 30 dmg and WS for about 100.

    What happened
: let me tell you this...for all u ppl out there that thought all the new jobs were horrid...think again. BLU PWNS! I dropped my weapon so fast it only had time to switch once to club skills. i was hitting the mob for about 30 damage a swing and 110+dmg from Claw Cyclone as a mithra. with all my mods i had 26+6 STR using evade equip, if i had remember to switch to mele equip after killing my mob i would have totaled 26+21 STR. after my weapon had switch to club weakness Bludgeon and Headbutt put it in its grave.

I moved in to help the SAM finish his weapon which had about equal hp as the samuri with 50% hp left and was now on slashing weakness. finally right as we finished off the second weapon the SMN was heading back to the entrance to get away from the weapon as Carby died. He got freaked out when we spammed "STOP"; he thought we were in trouble we just needed to get into range to hit the weapon ><... So i told the SMN to head to the center of the map to collect our treasure. he did and we burned the last Weapon. the main factor in this was the speed at which the first mob dropped changing it from a 3v3 to a 3v2. The Versatlity and Damage done by Blu on this BCNM really tips the scales.

Spell | Type | DMG
-----------------------------
Bludgeon | Blunt | 110+
Head butt | Blunt | 60+ Stun
Claw Cyclone | Slash | 90-120
Screwdriver | Pierce | 60~80-90 Damage varied alot, Weakest link
Cocoon | | didnt cast just used +3vit
Sheep Song | | Weapons are imune to sleep, used for Auto regen trait
Healing Brz | | Didnt use, ^^ Auto regen combo with ^^
Pollen | | Just incase i needed HP, didnt use
Blastbomb | | For +1 Str, also can bind the weapons, didnt use

If we learned anything from this it would be to have more BLU come with us...

Did it again with
War/Mnk
Blu/Whm
Pld/War

I, the PLD, ran up and agro'd the three of them. The WAR voked one off to the side and proceeded to solo. I tanked both of the weapons at once while the BLU kept me alive. The awesome thing about BLU in this BC is that he can cast all 3 types of damage. Screwdriver is Piercing, Claw Cyclone is Slashing, and Bludgeon and Head Butt are Blunt. CC did like, 80 damage. That was insane. We had a little trouble at first because we tried to Blastbomb-bind the first couple weapons, which lasted maybe 5 seconds, but once we switch to me double-tanking it was all good.

Just wanted to add my input on this. The setup was

Rdm/Blm (me)
Pld/War
War/Nin

Me and the War at Sushi for Acc. bonus, the Pld ate defense food. We all brought enough a few high potions and au laits, me and the Pld brought MP drinks (important!) and they really came in handy. I used 3 melon juices and 2 yagudo drinks in 3 runs, just for an estimate. Pld I think used 3 yagudo drinks.

On to the actual fight. For the record as people stated before, you can only damage the weapons using the TYPE of damage floating above their heads. There will be one of three floating above their heads.

Polearms: Piercing = Dagger, Polearm, Bow/Xbow
Clubs (looks like a rod): Blunt = Hand to Hand, Club and possibly Staff
Swords: Slashing = Axes, Swords, Great Axes, Katana, Great Katana... etc.

Have everyone in your party bring 1 of each TYPE of weapon. We each had a dagger (war also had xbow), Pld and I had club (war used h2h) and Pld and I had swords (war used axe).

*Make sure you MACRO in each weapon type because they do SWITCH weapons during the fight, and you'll start doing 0 damage when they do.* When they switch, simply hit your macro for the corresponding type. Don't worry about TP. Otherwise, the general strategy is to have the RDM or whatever you bring open with ES(if possible) + Bind or Gravity, they almost always stick for a while, and have the other two members solo theirs while the kiter throws up debuffs (Slow, Paralyze and Blind all stuck for me). Use your meds and macros and stay alive... pretty simple fight otherwise.

Edit: Drops included a Sarashi, Lv. 30 Belt which enhances Duel Wield trait and is missing from this drop list. Also various mannequin pieces (one dropped each fight) other belts and some lv. 30 latent earrings.

So, I went with two other ls mates to do this last night. We go pld/nin, war/nin (me), and blm/whm. I know, pld should have subbed war, but he's a 75 pld, so I figured he knew to some degree what he was doing and though it may not be easy sailing it would work. We're all packing HI-Pots for insurance and I burn through 5/6 first battle. We follow the strategy, and blm goes down, I hit mighty strikes and almost kill the sword one. Pld/nin is doing who knows what as I notice lots of "0's" kicking up. We wipe. We assess the situation and find out that pld/nin doesn't have polearm. -_- I had explained this WHOLE thing to them multiple times, so why no polearm? Ok, new strategy, I'll just go straight polearm until that one is dead, and if the bound one becomes polearm, I switch to the club or sword. Too much work, I know, but I'm already invested in this. Next battle, Blm down...I exit arena as pld calls for zone, but he doesn't make it. Ok, reassess the situation, pld and i go in first this time. I begin to notice that blm is spamming Cure II...whatever. Blm down...pld zones, I die. Three up...three down. I hp and look at the log... In the last two orbs, the pld/nin deals dmg all of four times...FOUR TIMES! The blm says, "Oh, that's not too bad." WRONG...that's WICKED BAD! What part of "if the club is over it's head use club" etc. wasn't understood? As for myself, the last two orbs I came up with 0's 6-7 times, but I attribute that to switching targets to save the blms a$$ with voke. I'm sorry, I just needed to rant and say follow the instructions to a tee and if one of your friends is experienced, usually knows what they're doing, and wants to try another job combination...f*$! that. Just quit. Btw, not sure if it was mentioned earlier but Paralyze will stick as it did last night and saved the blm one hit. ^_^

Yes this is true I can confirm as well. The RDM we had was using fencing-type swords granting piercing dmg, and he was able to deal dmg while the weapon was in 'polearm mode'. One can assume it works for the other dmg types as well.

Okay, so far i've done this BCNM 6 times. 3 runs per day, split between 2 days in the past week or two here. Went in both times as PLDx2, RDM/NIN. The RDM/nin has an incredibly easy task. Gravity and bind are sooooo strong on these guys. In the 7-10 minute fights, he only needs to gravity and bind twice per fight, before myself and the third member can finish off our weaps to come fight his.

Of the 6 total runs, 4 of them have dropped mannequin body. One head dropped. Avatar belt, wizard's earring, and I think someone got a scroll of erase, i could be wrong though. Also saw the merc's earring drop, and cestus belt. Everything else was small like regen scroll etc.

Incredibly easy fight. Incredibly incredibly.
We brought 6 yag drinks 3 HP drinks (2 yags, 1 hp per fight). No other meds needed. I end up using defense food, but only because Im mostly at a lack of attk or acc+ foods. Imma try either kabobs or jack-o-lanterns next time 'round see if I can shave down our kill time from 7-8 minutes to 6 or lower.
Very interesting BCNM

This BCNM looks very interesting, awesome drop list if alla's list is correct. I have PLD and club will be fully skilled up by the end of tomorrow (to a level 30 cap anyway). Hoping to find a group to do this with me a bunch.

Thanks for everyone whos posted in advance to explain how to use the same weapon type the weapons currently have floating over their heads. I'll probably try to get the 3 pld thing, or a pldx2 +rdm thing going on, or something interesting like such. I'll post back after the results are in =D

I just completed this BCNM twice. It's actually very easy. Party setup was:
Hume WAR/NIN(me) Squid Sushi
Elvaan WAR/NIN Sole Sushi
Mithraan RDM/BLM

First of all, gravity DOES stick, as well as bind. Elemental Seal + Bind sticks for a long time.
They always stand in the same order as far as I can tell. The spear type is on the left, the sword type is in the center, and the club type is on the right. One WAR/NIN takes the spear, and the other WAR/NIN takes the sword, while RDM elemental seal binds then gravities the third. With sushi, you almost never miss these guys, they have poor evasion. It won't hurt for you to bring potions or au laits if you use a setup similar to this one(I had no medicines or drinks, other WAR had potions). I almost died on the first attempt, but I used mighty strikes and took him down pretty quickly. Keeping shadows up against these guys was pretty difficult for me, so you may want to go in with more +evasion gear than I had(none). They do change weapons after each use of TP, and it does not seem to go in any particular order, however, I suspect it may be related to which weapon skill it uses.
Our second fight was much smoother since the other WAR used mighty strikes right away, and the RDM was more comfortable in the arena.

Drops for first fight:
Rusty Pick
Axe Belt
Pilferer's Earring
Dispel

Drops for second fight:
Rusty Pick
Lance Belt
Mercenary's Earring
Regen
Gold Ingot

Ok we defeated this with a party of 3.

1 War/Nin
1 Pld/War <- Me
1 Rdm/Whm

You need jobs that are capable of equipping Sword, Spear and Club in order to win this battle. Also any healing you have works wonders. Both the Warrior and myself used Centurion Sword, Royal Squire's Mace and Royal Squire's Halberd.

RDM opened by binding one of the weapons.

PLD and WAR provoked one of the other two, taking seperate mobs to solo.

Each of the weapons will have a weapon over its head. That is the weapon you must use to fight it. No other weapon can harm it. The sword and spear are easy to pick out, the club looks like the icon for a rod, sort of an Ankh shape. No spells will do damage except for bio and dia. The same weapon should remain over the head of the mob you are fighting until it uses a TP attack and then it will switch to a different weapon. Just switch weapons to match what it has and keep fighting. IN an emergency the warrior can 2 hour to do massive damage and the paladin can two hour to stay alive. The RDM in this battle D/C'd around the start of the fight but managed to log in back in time to be able to assist healing and keep us alive. Only the warrior ended up using his two hour after the red mage dropped his connection.

The drops were standard for a BCNM 30

1x song belt
1x high ether
1x Scroll of Regen
2x Rusty Pick

I suspect that this would be possible with 2 or 3 Paladins as they are each able to pretty much solo one of the mobs by themself. Just make sure if you do this you have your sword, club and spear weapon skills as close to max as possible.

Also it seems but is not confirmed yet that once the mobs get around half health you can start to do spell damage because the RDM/WHM did use banish to hurt one of the mobs.

Hm...
Could one DRK solo each subbing whm or nin? Like- keep em close and every time arcane circle goes down another drk uses it? Just a thought.
Also, is summoner or thief any good for this fight?
As 3 blm, could you bind all 3 close together and aga them to death?

Well, here's the deal. Weapons have an innate magic resistance of about 20%. Assuming they can damage them, Summoner would be 20% less effective against them than in any other BCNM, which doesn't mean they're not useful, but there's probably a more effective way. Same applies to BLM.

I'm fairly sure that Arcane Circle lasts for a minute max and has a cooldown of 5 minutes. That would mean the DRKs could keep it up for 3 minutes, then they'd lose whatever advantage it gave them. Also, keeping them close would let the AoE WS hit everyone.

Thief/Nin with capped evasion and marksmanship is potentially good for this as a soloer with high evasion and Bloody Bolts, but BST would probably be better because you don't need to evade attacks that don't target you.

My Drk is currently 23. I'm leveling it to 30 and keeping Marksmanship capped the whole way. My Whm is already prepared as a sub, and my Ninja is at 12 with Utsusemi. When I hit 30 Drk/15 Nin, I think I'm going to try this one with some LSmates. I will post how it goes.

BST has crappy sword and club skill and I don't know if pets can damage it cuz pets cannot equip weapons. Even tho I'm a big BST fan, I don't see how BST is a help in this fight. Also using Blm's to aga wouldn't work cuz you can only damage them with weapons. Also 3 DRKs wouldnt work well cuz I dont think they have polearm skill.

Summary of page info :
- The 30-cap BCNM is up in Fei'yin
- The opponents are 3 Gladitorial Weapons (Evil Weapon Type)
- Evil Weapons are weak to light/fire and a sub group of Arcana. Drk has an advantage with Arcana Killer/Arcane Circle. Fusion is preferred Skillchain.
- These weapons have all Evil Weapon special attacks.
- Black Mage Sleep does not seem to work, even with ES
- Bard Lullaby does not seem to work either.
- Jack-o'-Lanterns are good for the Arcana Killer, but the -10CHR makes the effect unreliable at best.
- No one can figure out how to damage the weapons, some suspect they're immune to sword damage, though they also seem to be immune to magic.
- Bind works better than Sleep.
- Gravity is untested, but it is a wind spell and these are wind type monsters.
- Some suspect Weapons are Ninjas, seems unlikely.
- Suspected conditional invulnerability. Trigger unknown.
better luck next time...

Tried this today as mini-manaburn...3 BLM/WHM. Our plan was to enter and Elemental Seal + Sleep one mob each. All 3 resisted and thats when the fun began. We hit one with Bind..and that seemed to stick pretty well. While the third BLM was struggling to sleep his mob, we started nuking on the first. We hit it with a Water II, a Stone II, and a Thunder - all doing 0 damage.

I've read everything I could find about these Gladiatorial Weapons...but nothing tells their jobs. From what I saw, I'd say they're Ninjas with shadows up.

...and about the only rewarding thing I saw was that Bind worked alot better for us (in that short time) than sleep did. I'd recommend scraping the entire sleep idea..unless someone has had success with BRDs.

3 Thf/Nin's could possibly do this they have access to a lot of +Eva and already have A+ and Evasion Bonus II at 30 with Jack o Lantern thats 10 eva acc and Arcana killer each Thf brings a stack of bloody bolts with capped Marksmanship and pulls the mobs in 3 seperate ways so the AoE dont hit anyone but the person fighting it if they are inaccurate enough keeping shadows up shouldnt be much of a problem. Im on Sylph so if anyone wants to try this strategy with me send me a /tell :D

Maybe if you tried this setup BRD/whm BLM/nin BLM/whm(or rdm) it would work my idea is you have 1 blm each sleep 1 weapon and 1 use bind (having shadows up from /nin) wait till sleep is ready and both nuke and then sleep keeping 1 bound, 2 slept) brds role in this would simply be ballad and such as well as keeping the blms alive with cures incase something went wrong. As the BLM/nin keeps shadows up taking the attacks from the bound weapon and the 2 nuking then resting well waiting for sleep to be recastable you might be able to kill them also have brd use Foe Requiem II on the bound 1 for abit of extra help and Fire/Wind Threnody on them since you will likely be using firaga/aeroga.

I know my strat includes 2 jobs that do see many BCNMs but what about DRK/nin, THF/nin, RDM/blm

Havn't done this one before but im thinking that

1. RDM/blm Elemental Seal- Gravity (Weapon A).
2. THF/nin Kites (Weapon B) firing Bloody bolt with max marksmanship.
3. DRK/nin goes one v. one with (Weapon C)also shooting bloody bolts and draining as needed.
4. RDM keeps (Weapon A) down long enough for (Weapon C) to die. Also watching THFs HP
5. After (C) dies DRK moves to (A) Then (B) respectivly.

Some reasons why I think this will work...

1. DRK has Arcana killer and Arcane Circle.
2. Jobs subbing Nin will eat Jack-o-lanterns which also give Arcana Killer.
3. RDM can two hour to keep Gravity on any one of the weapons.
4. THF can two hour to kite longer.
5. Bloody Bolts can keep help up if RDM cure and Potions do not work.
6. THF has an A+ in evasion.

I hope to do this BCNM when my girlfriend my brother and myself can safely make it through Fei'yin with the jobs I hope to use. If I am missing something major please let me know before I loose anymore of my Thief's exp.

Failed Attempt
# Sep 20 2005 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
I did this one the other night, party setup was:
BRD/WHM << Me
PLD/WAR
NIN/WAR
The plan was to sleep them and kill them one at a time, and if that didnt work, well...we would just die and learn from it.
We went in, and ofcourse I couldnt sleep them after many attempts, and to make matters worse, the PLD and the NIN (who both were using swords) were doing 0 dmg with every hit.
We figured that might be what the name meant, because we used swords, and we died. Since we knew we couldnt sleep them, and the NIN and PLD only brought swords, we didnt try it again. I think if we could have had a good chance if melee could hit them. I'd suggest bringing non-sword weapons.
Hope this helps goodluck.

Disclaimer: I have not actually tried this BCNM.

From my experience with weapons, Sleep is usually more successful than Lullaby on weapons. However, this BCNM is 30 capped and BLM don't have access to Sleepga until 31.

AOE stun (Whirling Rage) will take down shadows rather quickly and their big single person attack (Smite of Rage if I remember correctly), can do quite a bit of damage.

If they are unsleepable, someone will have to kite 1 if not 2 of the weapons while, the other 2 fight. This will probably be another BST only BCNM. -_- Obviously weapons are uncharmable, but Jug pets essentially make it possible to have "6" combatants instead of 3.

Might not work, most weapons have 20% magic resistance, so it'd be easier to use a Brd or 2 for buffs + sleep and have a Pld or War/Nin tank and kill them 1 at a time. Brd get Horde Lul at 27, so 1 is good enough. It's up to you, try some experiments and find what works best!
