when i followed shotgn direction to get to where the old and brass are I killed the very first one i saw and got the palborough chest key on the first drop now i got to go find the chest
A great spot where you can farm these keys is in the square of rooms just before the BCNM/KSNM area on the top level, as well as the little circle that dips down from one of those rooms. Brass, Copper, and Old Quadav spawn there and spawn close to one another so linking is inevitable.
We farmed these keys twice. One time as Mnk/War23 + Pld/Blm75 and it dropped off an Old Quadav on about the 18th mob I'd guess. The Second time was as Mnk/War22 + Blm/Thf75 (a switcharoo with our mains + mules respectively) and it dropped off a Copper Quadav on the 2nd mob. Having a high level with /Thf subbed seemed to help tremendously.
I finnaly got this last night, and my god it was so hard. Me (24BLM/12WHM and my friend 25WAR/12MNK) went through the mines looking for old quadavs, as she was a bastokian and wanted the garrison item.
Well we spent an hour just running around killing the Olds, which werent dropping a single thing. Incedentally some lvl 75 DRK was running around killing all the other Quadavs, but stayed away from Olds per our request. He left with out us knowing, and we got double aggroed by Copper Quadav (Decent Challenge).
My war friend tanked, and slept one while we killed the other. She died as right after killin the first and second one woke up and killed her. I slept/healed 3 times before it brought me down to 32hp and 17mp, 2Houred and spamed Aeroga and Blizzard, it missed me 3 times in a row, and i got the drop on the very last one. It was a fun time in the mines.
*****COMPLETE GUIDE TO GETTING PALBOROUGH CHEST KEY*****
First, the scenario is probably that your friend is in jeuno after having just hit 25 after partying in qufim for a few days. Also, I really hope he has done the chocobo quest already.
Chocobo from jeuno to bastok (use teleport-holla or teleport-dem to shorten the ride if you have it) and make sure to get your friend the Dem crystal if he hasn't already. Once you're in bastok, change to your highest level job and don't forget to sub THF if your highest level job has cure (WHM or RDM). For myself, my highest level was 55BRD, so I couldn't sub THF unless I wanted to give up Cure and Raise, which probably would have been a bad idea. I would say, as a mage, you want to be about Lv55 to comfortably kill these quadavs without lots of downtime. A melee I suppose could be lower level, but I would think you would still like to have cures around. Anyway, once you reach bastok and have switched to the proper job combination you want to kill quadavs with, get a choco and head to Palborough. (Don't forget warp cudgel)
By now you should know that there are really two North Gustabergs. You enter palborough from the "right-half" of North Gustaberg. Once you enter the right-half of North Gustaberg, simply follow the road up to the very tippy top right corner of North Gustaberg and there's the Palborough entrance. The grid squares you should pass through in N Gusta are H11 G10 G9 G8 H7 H6 I6 I5 I4 J4 J3 K3.
Now that you're in Palborough, you should follow along with your in-game map or the map on ffxi-atlas.com. You see that there are three maps for palborough. The one you start off in is the one with the arrow leading out to North Gustaberg, of course. The map on ffxi-atlas is nice because it has the blocked-off areas marked on it, which the in game map doesn't.
Anyway, the quadavs you want to kill are on the third floor, of which the map has a burnt hole on it. To get to the third floor you need to take the elevator. To get to the elevator from when you first enter palborough, the path you need to follow goes east east north west north east east south south south south east north east east north west. If you look on the ffxi-atlas map, it's clear why you need to follow this winding path: all the blocked off tunnels. Once you get to the elevator, pull the lever a few times and the lift should come down after a few seconds. Get on the platform and pull the lever a few times again. That's what I did anyway to get it to go.
Now you're on third floor. Here you must take another equally winding, as-long-as-possible path to the area with the proper quadavs: Old Quadav, Brass Quadav, Copper Quadav. The path goes, from the elevator, east east east north north west west west west west west south south east south south at which point you should have walked over a little bridge and are now in the Old-Brass-Copper area. This area (G9 H9 G10 G10 on the third floor map) has four rooms that make me think of jail cells for some reason and two tunnels leading off from it. In each "jail cell" there are two spawns, and in the small tunnel with a ??? at the end of it there are two, and in the longer tunnel leading to waughroon shrine there are four. They seem to be on a 10 minute timer. About the longer tunnel leading to waughroon shrine: it's much shorter than it looks on the map. Be very careful if you don't want to zone into waughroon accidentally. I lost my NPC, as well as my TP several times, as well as just being very annoyed by the zone into waughroon sooner than I expected.
We killed quadavs for about two hours before getting the key (no treasure hunter). About half the time we had some fierce competition.
Finally, since your friend probably has a 30 slot gobbiebag stuffed to the brim, DONT FORGET TO HAVE HIM CLEAR INVENTORY BEFORE LOTTING ON THE KEY!
Was in bastok, trying to kill some time. Figured I would hit the mines just to see how bad the mobs were, since me and a LS mate need to do this quest. Got near the area, and ran into a high level Whitemage, and a high level Ninja. Asked them if I was going the right way, and they showed me the spawn areas for the Old Quadav. I took one on instantly, and they killed any aggros. The key dropped first kill, and though I barely survived, I was thankful to be out of the mines for now. If the people who helped me read this, thank you.
These stories of quick key finds are true, but not for everybody. You can get keys with some help, but be prepared to invest time in travel and farming.... Got mine in half a day!
I can never find these chests! Anyone have picture of one so I know what to look for? I have keys for every dungeon but I dont know what the chests look like.
I am a 24 RDM\12 BLM and found a key last night fairly easily. I partied with another 24 WAR \ 12 THF and we could easily kill two copper\old\brass quadavs at a time. After about 10 kills we then got the first key dropped and a second one right on the next fight.
Stick to the SW area of the third floor or by the burning circle to find the quadav who drop the most. I suspect the harder the mob the bettr luck you'll have with a drop. I spent at most an hour and a half in the mines to find the key.
For those of you who want to open the chest, one spawning location is J-7 (botton left hand corner of the grid), third level (the one with the BC). Hope this helps. ps. sorry bout the double post
For those of you who want to open the chest, one spawning point is at J-7 (bottom left hand corner of the grid), third level (the one with the BC). hope this helps.
Honestly, I guess some people are just lucky. I'll get flamed for this, but whatever. Don't read it if you're skeptical.
I went as a lvl 18THF/Iforgetmysub with a lvl 25WHM/12THF and we hooked up with a 30THF in Giddeus... took us an hour and a half to get the first key, and the VERY next fight, a second key dropped, along with the Garrison quest item.
I went into Yughott Grotto with a 52THF/24NIN and it took 20 minutes or so to get that key.
I went into Palborough Mines with the same THF minutes later and we got the key on the second Quadav killed, so I'd say about 5 minutes, maybe 10.
Now here I am, 36THF/18RNG helping my friend get his keys...
We went to Giddeus and got that key on the second Yagudo we killed. Now we're waiting outside Palborough for him to get back from AFK, and I don't anticipate much of a wait here, either...
Point is, it can be very easy, or very difficult to get the keys. I have to go with what I see, and my experience, and that is to take a thief with you whenever possible, and keep the PT down to a minimum of You and the Thief.
Final Update: Woke up, told my friend to get ready to go get the Ghelsba Key...
Ran to Yughott, killed 3 Orcish Fighters and an Orcish Cursemaker. Key dropped on Cursemaker.
Final Results:
My keys: an hour or so in 20 minutes in Yughott, 5 minutes in Palborough, an hour and a half in Giddeus.
Friend's keys: 10 minutes in Giddeus, 10 minutes in Palborough, 15 minutes in Ghelsba (because admittedly I didn't know the area well and had to FIND the Grotto)...
If you want your keys and don't want to spend all day, or all week getting them, do NOT team up with a PT. All that does is create the need to find multiple keys, which can take hours/days. Find yourself a high level thief, ask him to help, pay him if you must, and go with just yourself and him. It'll take no time at all.
Well, Quadav number 11 dropped a key. On the way out, my friend was getting aggroed by everything, so I had to fight our way out, and a second key dropped on Quadav number 15, which I snagged for later use. I also managed to kill Zi'Ghi Boneeater on the way out (who had 9 other Quadavs following him... Guess someone tried to kill him and died in a train)... made short work of all of them, only got coarse gauntlets as a prize. Oh well, ninja quest time, Ghelsba key later.
I first tried to get this key with a two BLM and a RDM. We tried for about an hour and were unsuccessful. Than I tried to solo it as a 25 WAR / 5 THF and died twice. I was usually aggroed by two or more and just couldn't handle it. Everything came up as easy or decent...but I could only handle 1 at a time. So I got a lvl 37 THF / 15 RNG to go in with me. I stood on bridge and on the second Quadav he killed the key dropped. I would definately recommend bringing in a higher lvl theif in to help get the key. Good luck all.
second time(new character new server) did all three keys solo at 25 took one play day to get all three.
palb mines took the longest since at 25 getting to the bcnm/dragon firecircle zone took some careful work but once I had a zone at my back picking off one at a time became easy if a link occured i'd simply zone out wait a minute and grab the closest upon returning.
grotto was horribly easy key droped on first fight with a cursemaker.
guideus(sp?)camped the votary at the arch to dragon/bcmn firecircle took about a dozen to drop key was a bit slow since it only spawns every 7-10 minutes.
I'm having trouble finding the elevator to get up to the floor where the quadavs I need to fight for this are. I have the map of the mines, but nothing on the map looks especially.....elevator-ish. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Look at the first floor map, see the little circle area at I-9? Continue going east and the tunnel will start to head downwards and will dump you off at the elevator.
I recently went and picked this up. I was a 24war/9thf (no treasure hunter) and I went with a 25whm/12blm. Really didn't have any trouble getting the key. First one dropped after the 3rd mob we killed. The second one took a little longer, but in the end we had two keys in just under an hour.
