Just soloed this as a RDM/BLM, fight took a long time, i sneak popped the NM after getting rid of orcs in the immediate area. used Gravity, put up invisible and dragged him over to the Cloister zone, that gave me some running room, and a place to go if things got bad. he built up a resistance to Grav, but bind stuck like a charm, kept up haste SS and blink, and DOT the crap outta him, it took me a total of 3 converts but i think that was just because he got away from me and regened a couple times.
started fight at around 16:00 game time but meh, I think I coulda dropped the hakama for my ryl khts pants and still been ok but it was very nice to be able to straight tank him using ichi only with the occasional need for Ni when he gets lucky with dimensional death. For food I ate sushi just to make sure I hit as many as I could so acc was capped (almost never missed)
One thing tho is the gobs can be dangerous, I fought him back behind the stone so with being high level and having stealth (ninja attribute) they did not agro me, their respawn time is only a matter of minutes and there are 2 spawns that are kind of close to the stone so be careful. As for other things he only got 2 attacks through, one was a luck dimensional death where all the hits hit and i only had one shadow left. dealt me 170dmg, then one more with a lucky dbl attack(which he doesnt do often) hit me for another 150 or so. drank two hi-pots I had just to be safe but in the end it didnt matter. Just keep your debuffs (para/slow/blind, especially blind) and he will go down easy. good luck :)
Lame NM...terrible stats but has quite annoying HP...soloed as a delvled 74 smn. Just sick an avatar on it, make sure it has hate, invis, run past the gobs (easier if you kill closest gob then invis past them), and retreat it all the way to the West clearing before the cloister entrance. there just run it back and forth between the clearing and the tunnel...might want to zone into the cloister b/f you pull the NM so that you know where the zone is b/c its not fun if you accidentally zone it lol...anyhow, there is one manticore that will get in your way...but just be careful and you should be fine...
I duoed this last night as a Rdm/blm with a 72war/nin. It was relatively easy fight, with the war tanking. His shadows took most of the Dimensional Deaths, and once I had debuffed him, he wasn't hitting to hard, or too fast. The war died at the very end of the fight when i ran out of mp and convert wasn't ready yet. Overall though, he was a rather pathetic NM.
Agressive to sound. I was going for a Garuda fight, and found this on the way while getting lost. However, I spawned the NM with sneak up. I didn't get aggro, and was easily able to run away. This would suggest you can pop it with sneak up and gives you time to do things.
I killed this NM for a friend that was on zilart mission 5 and just needed this fight to complete it:
Pulling it out into the area with the crabs, lizards and pugils, near the beach, was the hard part. Charmed a raptor along the way to the headstone to kill the goblin mercenary at the headstone. Once it was dead, release the raptor and summon couriercarrie. my friend spawned the NM and i put carrie on it. We both invisibled up, my friend stayed invisible at the headstone until the fight was over, the goblin would respawn before it was done. I went back to the tunnel with the goblins, and at the end of the tunnel, heeled carrie, who survived just long enough.
The problem is that Axesarion loses interest quickly, and starts to walk back to the headstone. So with either couriercarrie or a raptor pet, i had to go back after him, all the while avoiding goblin aggro with invisible. Everytime i pulled him back i gained more terrain than i lost with him walking back again. So slowly but surely, he can be dragged to the beach/outpost area, where he can just be petswapped to death easily by any BST 65+.
After this, my friend dropped invisible when the goblin wasnt watching, and he got the fragment from the headstone.
popped it. drg took hate at start. THF sata dancing edge onto my ***. I had phalanx and stoneskin and blink and whatnot up. basically everything i could. THF had tp from the gobs in the area at the start.
Anyways. Went wheeling thrust >> shark bite for light. I had hate basically the rest of the fight. Its dimentional death either hit stoneskin or my blinks. PLD/RDM pwns.
I noticed he seemed to get stronger as the fight went. When we started he was hitting for 20-30, by the end of the fight he was hitting for 100+ consistently against a 69 pld.
I didnt notice any real change in dimensional death dmg though, was pretty low the whole fight. If anything it got weaker later on.
Did it very easily with:
69 pld 66 pld 68 drk 69 blm 67 brd (or there abouts in lvl) 75 whm
Oh and after the fight the bandit repoped as a mercenary, so its not always the same goblin type.
lmao. If you read what SE says in the manual guide w/e its called (i havnt read in like a year... lol) It says VNM, which was supposed to be instead of HNM and mean Very Notorious Monster...
Actually, it's Honored Notorious Monster. You know it's an HNM because you recieve a title upon killing it. No BS about it being super hard or anything, that's just the way HNMs are made to be. Thusly, you get a title.
We were a bit nervous about trying the battle with only 5, but decided to try it anyway.
There is a goblin bandit that spawns right near the headstone that checked VT to me at 62. We killed the gob to clear the area and to build TP. As we were resting for MP and buffing for the fight with Axesarion, the gob popped again. The gob has a very fast pop time...even if you kill him and immediately spawn Axesarion, the gob will probably pop again during your NM battle. We decided to live with this and just sleep the goblin as appropriate during the NM fight.
Otherwise the battle was pretty straight forward. PLD started with Spirits Within at 300% TP, and throughout the fight SC Fusion with the MNK while BLM and myself MB'd fire (good for undead shadow). All five of us used our 2hr's at somepoint, just to be safe.
Slow and gravity landed first time, and never wore during the whole NM battle. Paralyze was resisted first cast, so I decided to ES + Paralyze and it stuck, only wearing once. Kept Dia II on him the whole time as well.
Dimensional Death wasn't TOO bad, but sadly Barakel (PLD) died at the very end of the battle. Still, with just five of us, we were victorious. Raised Barakel and we all got our fragment.
The term itself generally refers to monsters of a very high level that usually take a full party, alliance, or even multiple alliances of Lv70+ players to defeat. They also frequently drop very valuable items, examples of which would be Damascus Ingots, Damascene Cloth, Venomous Claws, and many Rare/Ex items (e.g. abjurations), weapons, and armor.
Actually, this question has been discussed in many forums, with seemingly endless debate. The cause of all this is that the term "HNM" is player-created, so it has no "official" basis; there is no one who has the final say in what it really stands for.
Really, it doesn't matter whether you would prefer to call it "hard," "hyper," "high," or anything else; they're all referring to the same thing.
