I was in a pt last night where my tank died twice from Mortal ray because I could not get cursna to take it off. We did not know then that tanking it backwards would work. But does anyone know what attribute or skill would help in having a better chance of cursna removing the doom? For example would having a higher MND affect it?
I believe that a higher healing magic skill has an increased chance of removing the effect. Macro in healing magic skill up gear like AF and Healing Torque and see if it helps any. Failing that, just spam it and hope for the best ^^;
Agreed... also, the PLD should have some holy waters to spam chug until the effect wears. Of course if they're doing a good job of reverse tanking, they shouldn't catch Mortal Ray ever.
I've never gotten hit with it from a Taurus and I've NIN tanked on more than a couple Mino/sub runs.
I'm just a little curious as to what element these guys are weak against. I would like to think fire, since they live in such a frigid climate. But I played around with Blizzaga III and got a 1500+ MB off of it. Granted it was either single or double ice weather at the time, but this still seems a bit counter intuitive.
You can actually avoid Doom if you're not facing him. So either tank backwards, or stay unlocked and spin around when you see it cast Mortal Glare (or Mortal Stare, or something like that). You'll get the message "Doom has no effect on..."
Also, if Doom connects and starts counting down Cursena/Holy Water won't always work. Each cast/item only gives you a chance to get rid of doom. My tank once ate 3 Holy Waters + 4 Cursena and still got killed. XD So yea... avoid if possible.
Beware the Molechs. They are true sight and cast Doom. If you have Doom cast on you, you have 10 seconds to either get a Cursna or drink a Holy Water before you are dead.
