Solo'd this lil cactus today with my 57blu/28nin.
Incredibly easy to kill provided you have some form of shadows and or stoneskin or 1020+hp ...
1000 needles will eat up shadows and will take stoneskin down quick but will absorb some f the damge so it is pretty useful imho.
I kept utsesumi up as well as metallic body and when i got the sabotender around 25% hp left he used 1000 needles. With both utsesumi and metallic body up he did only 548damage and i quickly dispatched him with a few spells after that..
I later had 1 jump me while engaged (pop), and both used 1000 needles ..I died but killed one of them. Learned spell so all was good..

Just solo`d this as 68THF/NIN Max HP 1023/1023 I open the battle with Sneak Attack + Shark Bite for 850dmg and everything is going smooth and at about 20% hp it uses 1000 needles, I have a fresh shadow set up and he hits me for a flat 1000, I follow up with Dancing Edge FTW
But this just proves that Utsusemi does squat for 1000 needles

I was in East Altepa Desert and fighting with my BPC buddy. I decided this was the last battle I was gonna do before heading out. I always buff up with blink, stoneskin, phalanx, blaze spikes, enfire, haste, protect III, and shell III, even if it's not all necessary. So, I engaged it and, well, my NPC buddy left me after 1/4 of it's health was away, but that didn't really matter. He had done around 70 damage points to me while stoneskin was down, no problem (or at least I thought). When the battle was almost over, I had decided to take some screenshots of him and me, just for fun. I was distracted for a bit, but when I looked at my HP bar, it shot to zero. Hmmm, I guess I didn't realize him readying 1000 needles. Needless to say, it hit me for 833 damage points, while breaking thru my stoneskin. Before that, I had around 750/883 HP.
In short, the Sabotender OMG WTF pwned me with 1000 needles.

Got killed by one of these as a 53 PLD, wasn't expecting 1000 Needles. My PLD is 60 now, and the fight wasn't very tough, just have to make sure your health is above 1000 at all times ( or have shadows up ) if you're going to solo.

I was farming today and decided to engage one of these. Overall he was weak. Thf59/Nin39 for the sake of his 1k needles. I killed him with him landing about 3 hits which shadows absorbed. During the fight, he did toss 1k needles at me which took out 3 shadows and still dealt a good 600 dmg on top of that. Their accuracy is weak, 2 people 60-ish could farm these all day. I got a cactus arm and stole a cactus needle.

I can't belive they named Cactuar's family as Sabotender. I hate that name, it sounds like some kind of foot fungus disease.
They look like theyre either wearing puffy pants or have giant thighs...
Sabotenders make pretty good pets if you can charm them. They hit hard and seeing them do 1000 Needles on your enemy is excilarating.

No this was not a Sabotender, you saw a NM named Sabotender Rapido (or Cactuar Rapido, dont member exactly) he has a constant Flee X 2 effect, and Haste X 2 effect, he is really hard to find, due to his speed, he drops a rather nice bow, and needle
The NM is named Cactrot Rapido and you will see him running around East Altep (especially in the center portions of the map), and although he will not aggro you, he will link if you're fighting a Sabotender and he runs by close enough.
Rapido can drop lev 70+ earring and bow.

When i saw him running in e. altepa he was running like hell and left a cloud of dust. Makes me wonder if this a was an escape machinism when he's low on hp. When I saw him run, i also jetted out of his way, I was fearing him when he stops and see me :D.
I've seen Cactuar guarding the entrance of Rabao, which was interesting cus no one seem to want to touch him.
If you're a BST you can tame him! He makes a good pet.

A couple thoughts if you want to solo this little man/woman. ><
Do one of the follow (If not all)
1: Make sure you can take him out in less then 5-15 of his/her attacks, me and My bud tested this guy/girl out, He/she SPAMS 1000 needles every 5-7 hits.
2: Have Over 1000HP (If you do, you can probably do number 1. xD)
3: Defense doesnt matter. Show off to the n00bs if you have one or both of the 2 things above down and beat him/her armorless. xD

NM Version: Cactrot Rapido
Don't know anything about him really because he was too fast for me to even touch him. He literally runs about 2x a chocobo and there's a giant dust cloud behind him.

these guys have a special attack "1000 needles" that does 1000 dmg divided evenly among the party fighting it(regardless of defence), the dmg is pretty weak on a 6 person party but on one person ><............
