was farming these 1 day with my 50 pld / 17 thf and i managed to steal a giant bird feather. idk how but i got 1. i've tried to steal more but never got any since that day.
This is one bad **** bird, even at lvl 51 whmI have to buff up and debuff the bird before I can go in there fighting. And It cost me a lot of mp just to bring this bird down fast.
On the upside to this, I am skilling up very fast on my staff with it.
inflation, that evil mother ????er we all gripe about is better and worse than you think
on siren, meat goes 50-70k a stack --; but kabobs are up to, 20k per stack 50k for chiefs
so dont gripe, just go with the flow

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!
ok i havent always subbed thf for these but even when i do i have not gotten one drop off these not one O.O im gonna try again with TH but i can understand how u can get 2 stacks of meat in a few hours lol u lucky bug**er
Here's an interesting little tidbit, sorry if it's old. If you can manage to turn away from a cockatrice or a lizard or whatever before it tries to petrify you, it will have no effect, as you are not looking the mob in the eye. Discovered this for myself in Cape Teriggan after inadvertently stealing hate from our PLD and turning as not to further anger the Sand Cockatrice we were killing. ^^;
I use the meat for making Meat Mithkabobs, but i've never been able to farm these guys. Now that I'm level 50 WHM I'm wondering if I will be able to solo these. I'm either going to sub THF for TH1 which would help with the drops or SMN to have Auto-Refresh to go along with the juices i use. I guess i'm going to have to experiment with this a little to see if i can pull it off. The one thing i hate about mage jobs is the difficulty involved with soloing (other than RDM).
im 60 DRK and these thing die with like 3-5 hits and are easy pickins though i mainly farm goobbue's ne ways i can guillotine one to death i one hit but ur best bet is to grab a scroll of instant reraise from ur local jueno gate guard u gettem from common of all rank conquest point it cost 500 points use the scroll of reraise and she how hard these cockatrice are to you but i sub thf and with TH1 they drop about 70-90% of time so with TH2 they will probably drop all the time and a stack sells for about 15k on quesiqoatl so its easy gil while i look for a pt so try that out with the reraise and good luck to you
I plan on doing a massive farming session of good drops when i hit lvl 45 THF...but it sounds like this mob will own me at that lvl. If I open with a SA WS could i beat it no prob?
You would probally be able to take 1 maybe 2 at a time, however if you get hit with petrify you will die. I was farming as a 50 thief and i died pretty regularly. At 45 I would stick to farming fangs in Battilla Downs.

I was going through mer mountains the other day and i came across this mob and it came up as impossible to gauge. is this a NM? anyhow no one else was around so i decided to recover to try it. i was a lvl 41 whm/blm. i was healing in what i thought was a safe distance and i got about 1/2 my mp back when he walks over and sees me. aggro attack hits me for like 75% of my health. attempted to cure and 2nd hit sent me home =( this description here says there are in saur cham however i encountered this one in southern merp mountains.
It is nearly impossible for me to obtain the meat for these anymore besides purchasing them from the AH. I swear, it's like hunting the most heavily camped NM getting to the cockatrices anymore ><
I generally farm these because they are a good money maker. i can solo about 4 of them before i have rest or run back to jeuno to heal. If i want to make a good run i get one of my ls members who is a 46 whm and have him sub rng for widescan. on a full moon in about 2 hours we get aprox. 3-4 stacks of meat and 2 stacks bird feathers. feathers sell for about 18k and meats sell for about 20k dependng on the market. but over all good mob to farm.
These are very overcamped.. which makes sense cuz you can really make nice profit... You gotta be Rng/Thf or Thf/Rng if you wanna have a chance of killing these. (Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiidescan!)
I am in the same boat except I usually go to the Sauromugue Champaign to Chocobo Dig. I was a 31 Drg / 15 War and lost. I did not get smoked checked but the fight could have gone better. I /asked one of my LS buddies and they said go back to Jungle and level to 32-33 then you can go to the Citadel in the Sauromugue Champaign area and level from 33-35ish. While doing this go back and forth from Citadel to Sauromugue and kill the Beaks. He is a level 50 cook and this is the advise he gave me on killing those, just thought it would help, no matter he said a level 33 Decent Challenge- level 34 Easy for you and start rolling in the gil.
i wish i could solo these but i know i will get owned by one of these things im blm 30 and elvann >< . im a cooker too seeking uber amounts of meat for mithkabobs but the prices suck on Asura. oh well gonna have to shell out loads of gil for these things :(

Well I was farming these over sized birds as my Paladin42/Warrior21, I was wondering around looking for one and you know what? It found me insted. So he aggroed me, we fought and I was winning! BUT! he used petrified and then OMG! He kept on smaking me for like 1 min or 2 min. Then when I was released frm petrifed he did i again >< them when it wore off I was out of MP and I had like 109 HP left. I used TP but then MISSED! OMG! Then not long after that he became the hunter and I becamed the hunted ><
Holy cow. I'm sort of multi-tasking here. Anyway. I found a tabar beak in Sauromuge Champaign and decided now would be a good time to farm them, since I'm in need of money for Cure IV (my Red Mage recently hit level 48 and I only had enough to buy either Haste or Cure IV. I chose Haste).
These things definitely hit hard. It took down my blink and stoneskin before I even got it down to half health and ended up draining me of most of the rest of my MP when I frantically hit my Cure III macro after taking my attention away from FFXI for a splitsecond. Then I saw I still got experience from it.
So in short, Too Weak Tabar Beaks = good. Easy Prey Tabar Beaks = bad.
