Vana'diel Bestiary: Nemean Lion  

General Information

• Spawns in the final wave of a Level 8 Undead Swarm Besieged in Al Zahbi.

• Will not be present among the advancing Undead Swarm mobs as they are traveling from Bhaflau Thickets to Al Zahbi.

• Has a draw-in effect.

Nemean Lion Special Attacks

• Tourbillion: Strong AoE physical damage with additional Knockback effect. Can be absorbed by three shadows.

• Will only perform this TP move if the wings are upright. Critical hits and/or large amounts of damage can cause the wings to "break", preventing Nemean Lion from further using Tourbillion.

• Dreadstorm: Strong AoE magical Thunder damage with additional Terror effect.

• Thunderstrike: Strong AoE magical Thunder damage with additional Stun effect.

• Tenebrous Mist: AoE TP reset

• Fossilizing Breath: Frontal cone AoE Petrification effect.

• Plague Swipe: Strong physical cone AoE damage with additional Bio effect from behind. Can be absorbed by shadows. Will only occur when a character has drawn hate from behind it. (Similar to Fafnir and Nidhogg's Spike Flail tp move conditions.)

• Fulmination: Massive AoE Thunder damage with additional Paralysis effect. Nemean Lion will only begin using this TP move when its HP has reached 35%. The paralysis effect is extremely potent.

Historical Information

In Greek mythology, the Nemean Lion was an extremely large and vicious lion, said to be the son of the monster Echidna and the Titan Typhon, and whose siblings included the Lernaean Hydra (see Hydra), Cerberus (see Cerberus), and Chimaera (see Khimaira).

This lion, said to have a hide so thick that no weapon could penetrate it, terrorized the village of Nemea until confronted by the hero Heracles. Assigned the task of killing the lion (the first of his twelve labors) and retrieving his hide by the king Eurystheus, Heracles soon found that his arrows had no effect on the Nemean Lion's hide, merely bouncing off it without inflicting any damage. Eventually he followed the lion to a cave with two entrances and, after blocking off one of the entrances, cornered the beast from the other. Heracles rushed the Nemean Lion and, despite being wounded by the creature's frantic flailing, managed to strangle it to death by crushing its throat between his arms. He then took to skinning the lion by using its own claws, the only objects sharp enough to pierce its hide, and brought it to Eurystheus as sign of his victory.
