Summary

Bring a Lanolin Cube to Rouliette so she can make you a candle.

Walkthrough

Rouliette agrees to make you a candle if you can get her a lanolin cube. Lanolin cubes drop randomly from Battering Rams in La Theine Plateau. It may take several kills to get the lanolin cube and since Battering Rams only spawn in a few points this may take you awhile. Once you have the lanolin cube, return to Rouliette and you will receive a key item, a candle. You are also granted the title: "Believer of Altana."

Caederva Mire rams

The drop rate on lanolin cubes seems to be pretty good in Caederva Mire. I was in a party, and we were trying to figure out some good mobs to exp off of, so we tried some rams in that northeastern part of the map. (You have to go through Arrapogo Reef using a Lamia Fang Key to get there.)

We pulled a few elder treants and a few rams. The treants would have been decent exp, but the rams have a horrible Max HP Down move that dropped me from over 1650 to about 400. They spawn chigoes during the fight, which actually isn't too bad, since you can get chain 6 or so off of one pull.

Anyways... we killed 2 rams before deciding to move onto imps and flies. Tons of ram drops, and 2/2 on the lanolin cubes. I've killed tons of rams in La Theine and Konschadt (sp) and never gotten one. So if you're needing your cube, give these rams a try.
what fame do i need for that ??

It's because it's used in a prequest for Sleepga II.
confirm?
# May 27 2005 at 1:58 AM Rating: Decent
Hey- I got this drop a long time ago, and like some others, I threw the cube away due to lack of space. Can anyone confirm another drop after throwing away / selling their cubes? I have been killing these mobs left and right and havent gotten a single lanolin cube drop in over 20 mobs, and its getting ridiculous. Let me know if you have definitely gotten the drop after getting rid of yours.

Thanks

...Killed another load after getting the quest and it dropped on about the 6th one! ;)
Hope this helps!

I am having trouble getting this quest, I did the first candle quest, but roulette wont give me second candle quest, maybe you have to do the other pre-requisites for sleepga 2 first? I tried talking to illumidia again, no luck.

I dont think its fame, I was able to obtain all the gobbie bag quests, even newest one. I even waited a real life day to see if that was it, I cannot get this quest

This quest coincides with the quest "A Candlelight Vigil", where you need to bring a holy candle to Illumida. Check your Completed Quests list; both quests should be listed there.

Ugh...I remember long ago I had the cube. No one knew what I should do with it, so I sold it. Figures...got the quest now. ...I should've kept that cube. Oh well. Time to hike out to La Theine.

It is an EX item, so unless you sold to an NPC you are telling a lie. ^^

E-7
# Jul 15 2004 at 9:32 PM Rating: Decent
Got mine on a Battering Ram at E-7. It dropped seven items with TH, gotta love it. Luckily, this was one of those items.
RE: E-7
# Oct 28 2004 at 11:22 AM Rating: Excellent
They'll most commonly appear at E-7, F-8, or G-9. They are SELDOM as far north as E-7. Usually if you spot one up there it's because it chased someone that far north.

If you check the map here

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/areas.html?farea=29

You will notice this forms a northwest / southeast diagonal region. I would hang out at the point where section F-8 and G-9 touch each other -- that's the vicinity where I see them most of the time. I'm gonna guess that I've killed 6-8 of these things. Of those, two dropped the lanolin cube -- so I suppose the chance of the drop is maybe 1 in 3 or possibly 1 in 4.

Neither Battering Ram not Tremor Ram is an NM. They're just mobs that are super tough for their area. I've seen Battering Ram anywhere from the crag to all the way across the zone, just south of the entrance to Ordelle's Caves, above the cliff edge. He can pop anywhere, and he likes to move around a lot.

Most ppl I know refer to these types of mobs as Named Mobs (which I could see confusion with the Notorious Monster thing). Almost every region has at least one type of named mob that is typically tougher then all other mobs, and well, they suck:)

A couple examples of Named mobs would be Walking Trees, Treants, The crazy birds in Altepa (can never remember their name), Battering rams, Tremor Rams. They are typically bigger cousins of other mobs in the zone (e.g. the Walking Trees and Treants are Named versions of the saplings, Battering Rams and Tremor Rams are Named versions of Sheep), and being so, link with their little cousins. I know there are more of them, and Not all are related to other mobs. Oh, and all the bomb types might be considered in the same light... Basically, it's the rare mobs in the region... I guess it's something I was taught when I started, and have adopted it ever since. There is no official idea for these, but hey, whatever, works for me:).

Title Gained is Incorrect

I just completed this mission and then looked at my title and it is "Activist for Kindness" not "Believer of Altana" as stated above.

That's probably because after you got the candle from this quest, you went and did "A Candlelight Vigil", which grants title "Activist for Kindness"
Lanolin cube
# Mar 11 2004 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
I had this stupid cube in my inventory for almost a month. (I submitted the change to get Battering Ram listed as source; it wasn't linked here at the time).

I didn't have enough fame to start the quest intially.

Talk to the old lady in the house near the chocobo stairs in upper jeuno. She sits in a rocking chair; and asks for a candle. Then go to the temple and talk to the priest Rouliette. She says she'll give you a holy candle in exchange for lanolin.

Give her the damned cube and save yourself some inventory space by selling the Flower necklace. The bird whistle is more effective, gives addnl HP and can be used by all jobs at a lower level.

she is in the Cathedral right by the house you got the previous quest from in Upper Jeuno. She stands behind a desk.
