SummaryThe boy needs a whetstone to sharpen an old blade. Find one for him in Ordelle's Caves. WalkthroughNote: Before doing this quest, you must first complete the quest Father and Son. Talk to Ailbeche at J-8 in Northern San d'Oria, then head to Ordelle's Caves. Look for a stalagmite around H-10 of the first level. This triggers the spawn of Polevik, an Earth Elemental. After you kill him, touch the stalagmite again to receive the key item Ordelle Whetstone. Talk to Sobane in D-6 of Southern San d'Oria. Then go back to Ailbeche for your Honor Sword. This thing is a Joke. Killed it as 75 THF/NIN. Only took 109 pts of damage. Come on...

Just soloed this as 59PLD/DRK. Protect III, Shell II, Tav. Taco fight took about 1 min. He only hit me twice for 85HP. Simply killed everything in sight to build up to 300% TP and when he spwned I hit him with spirits Within for 600, took him down to ~20%. Just whacked him a few more times to get to 100% TP and WS to finish him off. Never even had to cure myself

Just did this one as 70BLU/NIN.
Peice of cake.
Put up utsusemi & diamond hide & wore SH & AF boots for evas bonus (which made evading pretty damn easy). Didn't use any food or items.
Fight barely lasted a minute.
All I can say, Breath attacks > Elementals. A nice Burst Affinity Frost breath slaughtered its hp, follow through with a couple more breath attacks and its over.

I read a few of the posts on this page and another, and decided to give this a try aginst there advice. No problem.
The setup:
57 pld/war (myself) and a 37 whm/blm. So before we began i built up 300TP, cast protect III, shell II, used defender, had the whm cast barstonra and regen, and i used a rollinberry pie (50MP).
The fight:
As soon as the fight started the whm cast silence and paralize and neither one stuck, probly too low lvl as expected. Anyways i cast flash wich stuck for about 2 seconds and dumped Spirits Within for 501dmg takeing him down to about a third health and i then used an icarus wing to get TP back (100TP for 5k well worth it). Polevik imedietly cast stone II for 90dmg, put up stone skin and then went to work on me for about 40dmg a hit. I then used sential to redeuce dmg taken to 6dmg per hit. We went rounds for a couple minutes, he used stone II a couple more times for a total of 300dmg and we got a few hits and a few spells in between the first and second time he cast stone skin while im still bulding up to 300TP agin. Stone skin went down a second time just as i hit 300TP, used cure IV to fill health and laid waist to the quarter health he had left.
The final score:
I would say it was a 2 minute battle total. Neither one of us needed to use 2 hour and i went into the yellow twice with the whm and i useing cure III on me a few times. In the end we both had full health and no MP left. In other words this NM was a joke and can be done at low lvls with some good planing. Keep in mind SE mite have adjusted this NM down a bit from the looks of the previous posts.

Just did this as job in subject. Pulled out my 60 NPC Soothing healer just in case. From the thread it seemed he was hard and someone told me he was a hoss. Well, I wore NIN DD gear and ate a rolanberry pie for MP. Had 208 with stoneskin and aquaviel up, I popped him. He never touched me. Blade Ku did wonders and my SAM NPC ate him alive. Easy fight overall, more hype about a possible death, but i got my key item and on my way to getting my sword. Now my 43PLD is one step closer to becoming a pimp. lol

I soloed Polevik as a 61BLM/30RDM with little difficulty. I had taken on elementals many times before as my BLM and never had problems, so I made the assumption that this NM was a over-glorified earth elemental.. and he is!
As long as Silence sticks the fight is cake. I used some Pineapple juice, but I needed no ethers for this. I didnt even have to use my 2-hr!
All-in-all it was a fun fight though. So if any of you aspiring PLDs have a high lv BLM or BLM friend, have em' take this guy out for you.

Not sure what happend but I am a pretty well geared lvl 71 THF/NIN and I just got owned big time. Only got it down to about 75%. Couldn't hit more than 15 dmg with a Harpe >_< He cast Stonega II twice and regular hit me for about 120 each time. And thats all she wrote...
went back with a lvl 74 blm and he made short work of it though ^_^

Solo'd this as a 75bst/nin with CourierCarrie. It hardly touched CC. and I took no damage at all. Easy.

Make sure you are on your pld when you talk to Ailbeche in N.Sandy he has to tell you to go to the caves, and Sobane is useless you don't need to talk to him. I pwned the nm with me (75th/nin) and a 75blm/whm. gl^^
If there are multiple Paladins going for AF1,
And they are in the same pt. will everyone get
the "Key Item"?
Or do we have to fight it once for each player?

Me and an ls buddy did this yesterday with the help of a mnk69/war34, Bloodshower. The other pld popped Polevik, mnk chi blast for 483 dmg, then we all start to pound on him. He only used Stonaga once which took half of mine and other pld's hp and it never used Stoneskin at all. Fight took less than 2 mins. We both checked the stone after and both got the key item, so you don't need to pop for each pld in party

Well, I must have been thinking the wrong thing, I just did this quest as a 43PLD (me) with a 61WHM and 75BST. That thing died almsot immediately, literally, less than 20 seconds. Next time for whoever, if you get one 65-75 you'll be golden.

By the way, with Sobane, you talk to her before you go to Ordelle's Caves, she just tells you where to go, Ordelle's Caves, which if you can't figure out by the name of the item, ORDELLE Whetstone, you might as well stop playing the game and declare yourself a moron.
Ok, just did this in my RDM (after flagging as PLD of course) and forgot the order of the steps listed in the walkthrough. Soon as I beat Polevik I went to Ailbeche first, and got the Honor Sword, so you can skip talking to Sobane in Southern San'Doria. (Unless you want to know what she says regarding the quest, hope it was nothing important @.@;;)

Well finished this quest last night in about 4min.... not counting the time it took us to get there....I enlisted some help, so it was me 44pld,52rdm,64pld I was a lil worried about the fight after reading some of the post, but to my surprise it was extremely easy my rdm kept Polevik silenced while myself and the other PLD proceeded to destroy it we only lost maybe 1/4 of our health the entire time.... And I'd like to give my thanks to Syris and Aton again for the help they gave me...I truly appreciated it.....

Well this quest was kinda hard me (41pld) and my friend 70thf got pwn the frist time casue i was attacking for some reason hits him 70+ dmg but the 2nd time w=he pwn him with SATA cause a lvl 60 war came along so SATA pwned him
went to kill this thing again as i had cleared my memory of pld af quests, went as pld/whm so i could tele myself and all that good stuff.
popped it and it was hitting me for ~15 damage a hit. fought it to 100tp (didnt bother to gain tp ahead of time lol) spirits for 180~ damage where it proceeded to hit me for 120~ per hit O.o wtf happened? lol did me using spirits on it have the effect of giving it crack? lol
just a little wondering and warning here.

well I tried this quest about an hour ago with me pld/war 41, drk/war 59, and blm/rdm 50. Total wipe. We got close, but Polevik got us all. I really wanna try and get this sword before 42.
Edit: Yay!!! I got my sword thanks to 75rdm/nin Icon. He owned him without even using Spirits Within.

It never even did 1 HPs of dmg as WAR/NIN 75,
Spirits within did 4/5ths of its HPs in one then took about 10 seconds to finish it off. {too weak}

Did this last night with : pld41/war20 <me>, pld51/war25, mnk60/nin30 and rdm50/whm25 .... the pld51 got to yellow hit points once, the rest of the fight was a joke - mnk was haste - hundred fists, rdm kept it silenced and dispelled, and me and other pld just hacked away at it

Fought this NM with me (54 PLD) and my 54 RDM. was a piece of cake. He hits hard though, about 120 every hit, but it seems his accuracy is pretty low because he missed me a lot. just best to keep it silenced so stonega 2 doesn't go off.

if you have a chance to do so, bring a MNK along, it makes the fight alot easier and shorter.

the rest of the fight took a while, melee attacks hit for almost nothing... <.< (normal hit 6-8dmg, crit 11-14, 100TP raging fists hit for a whole 69 dmg -.-)
a few tier 2 BLM spells from my friend shortened the fight a bit, in the end i lost ~900 of my 1300HP. now a happy owner of the honor sword ^.^
oh, and btw...
didn't talk to her, headed straight to Ailbeche and still got the sword, so i don't see the point in visiting her beforehand oO

Just beat him with a level 75 Ninja and level 60 Ranger helping me as a level 40 Paladin.
Ok killed it as 57 war/nin was very hard
won with 210 hp left and used 2 x potions and a healer npc
he hits hard and stonga took alot of my hp although he used it once
i recomend soloing him 65+
