October 29, 2013

  • Update #117 has been added to the game.
  • The Fire Hawk ride, the last of the Combiner Rides, is now available. If you purchase all 5 of the Combiner parts, you will earn an achievement and be rewarded with the big, combined ride: S.M.A.C.M., the Super Maximum Assembled Cyber Mech.
  • Toeny and Pinkeye are now correctly marked as members only.
  • Click and Clack are the new Demolition Derby and Kart Racing Coin Merchants near the racetracks.
  • All pet-related vendors are now coin shop merchants.
  • Smelting minigames once again award Miner experience.

The position of one of the Snowhill Rare Exploration tokens has been adjusted to fit in with landscape changes.

October 15, 2013

  • Update #115 has been added to the game.
  • Several new items have been added to the Marketplace and Coin Shop: Toxic Barrel, Super Spooktacular Parachute, an Undead Nightmare ride, Frankie Spooky Popper, and Ghostly Spooky Popper.
  • Three of Three has completed the addition of these evil Wizards.
  • Biff and Calista no longer have hidden names.
  • The Miner Coin Merchants have been added.
  • Many invisible walls have been removed from the game, in preparation of the flying feature of the Combiner Ride.
  • Fred Futbol and Tommy Crackletoe are now merchants for Soccer items.
  • Glenda has replaced Gravedigger Dustin as a quest mob.

October 8, 2013

  • Update #114 was put in the game.
  • The Grey Werewolf Outfit is now in the Marketplace. If this looks familiar to you, it's the same design as the LIMETED EDITION Werewolf Outfit from 2009, but different coloring.
  • There's a Fog Machine in the Coin Shop.
  • Two of Three has joined his brother in the Realms. His random appearances are in different locations, though.
  • The Great Scare is now a daily, repeatable quest.
  • The Ghost Vision achievement can now be completed by anyone that already had the Spectral Spectacles from a previous year by just equipping them.
  • Tiger the Party Animal has been removed from Sanctuary during the remainder of Spooktacular. You can still find him in either Blackspore or Seaside, if you want to purchase a Luau party.
  • Wizard Coin Merchants are now available in the Realms.
  • Several style merchants in Sanctuary are now coin merchants.
  • The quest goal spotlight is now green, instead of white, to match the color of the bread-crumb trail dots.
  • Abacus Coinmiser is shouting doom and gloom in Sanctuary, but he should not be taken seriously.

October 3, 2013

  • Update #113.1 has fixed a number of issues from the last update:
    • The 8-Bit Hero achievement has been changed so it can be earned when you summon your Meep pet.
    • Issues with most of the Spooktacular achievements have been resolved.
  • The Super Hero Outfit, Haunted Flair Shard, Bat Mask, and Black Spooky Spray are now in the Marketplace.

October 1, 2013

  • Update #113 is now in game.
  • Spooktacular has returned to haunt the Realms for another year! It should remain until November 12th.
  • Along with all of the returning items, there are some new Hair Color Style Cards in the Marketplace.
  • There is a new evil Wizard that has been seen lurking about the Realms. His name is One of Three and defeating him is quite an achievement. He appears in a few different places at different times.
  • An Events section has been added to the Achievments and the first trophy in it will be awarded when you complete Momma Meepster's quest.
  • The final day for 8-Bit Month will be October 7th. From what we understand, it should be returning next year.
  • Sonja is now a quest mob, rather than Hank Fisticuffs.
  • One of the Lost Meep locations has been removed since it continued to not allow collecting.
  • Chef Coin Merchants are now in the Realms.

  • Update #112 has been added.
  • A couple more items have been added for 8-Bit Month: the 8-Bit Moustache and the Alien Invader T-Shirt.
  • The Friends List window should be fixed now.
  • The Lost Meeps should no longer be un-clickable.
  • Postman and Warrior Coin Merchants have been added to the game.
  • The Chat window should become transparent much quicker now when not in use.
  • Each Hero Rises enemy now has an icon to indicate level and difficulty (up to 20 and 3, respectively).

September 10, 2013

  • Update #111 was put in game.
  • Momma Meepster has arrived for 8-Bit Month and needs your help to find her Lost Meep babies.
  • In keeping with the 8-bit theme, a Pixelated Skull T-Shirt is in the Marketplace.
  • The minimap is no longer hidden while in housing instances.
  • Spratt has replaced Slashum as a quest mob.
  • The farm in Briarwood now has Briarapple samples instead of Spiralmint.
  • Farnum Farm now has Wildroot samples.

  • A number of SOE employees, including some of the Free Realms Development Team, Ambassadors, and Customer Service, lost their jobs in what SOE calls a difficult decision. As stated in our article, we wish everyone affected by this the best of luck in quickly finding a new position.

August 27, 2013

  • Update #110 went live.
  • An achievement for the Combiner Ride, United We Stand, has been added. This mechanic will be used to reward the final combined ride once you've purchased all 5 parts, but since it's based on buying items with SC, it is not worth any achievement points.
  • There has been a change to the combat power-ups. The original health, energy, shield, flame, and earth shards have been removed from most instances and replaced with new ones:
    • Gift of Health temporarily increases your maximum health and greatly increases health regeneration
    • Gift of Energy temporarily increases your maximum energy and greatly increases your energy regeneration
    • Gift of Power temporarily increases your damage by a flat amount and your defense by a percentage
    • Gift of Focus temporarily increases your damage by a percentage and grants a flat damage reduction
    • Gift of Skill temporarily increases your movement speed, critical hit chance, and critical hit damage
  • Players are now able to initiate a 20-minute Luau Party for coins! Speak to Tiger the Party Animal in either Sanctuary, Seaside, or Blackspore.
  • The exit/title bar no longer appears while in instances. You are now able to exit by using the red exit button.
  • Most UI elements are now hidden while decorating your house or lot.
  • Additional merchants have been added to handle Medics and Ninjas in need of weapons and armor.
  • Nekark is now better at knowing when his tentacles are damaged and is less likely to remain in an inactive state.
  • Bitterleaf's hit points and physical damage have been increased. Additionally, he can now appear in 5 different locations.

August 16, 2013

  • Update #109 was all about bug fixes and improvements.
    • The text color of new Sasparilla items was updated to prevent their text from turning black on the rewards screen.
    • The overworld boss, Raven, should now always start all 3 waves of her battle.
    • Chugzy will now be much more visually active in the Ninjawug Outpost.
    • Characters should no longer bounce when the trees raise and lower during the Raven battle.
  • The Luau Party has returned to the Activities Calendar! The Referees are hosting this terrific shindig again.
  • Buy pre-paid Station Cash cards from Best Buy and redeem them from August 16th to 18th to get Double SC. See the FR News story for more details.

August 13, 2013

  • Update #108 has been added to the game.
  • The Wugachug chapter of A Hero Rises has been added. Chapter 4, A Brewing Darkness, involves Wugachug's Sasparilla Festival. There are many new quests, achievements, armor, weapons, flair and power shards, enemies and battles, and a super-rare pet pal!
  • Many of the UI windows accessed via the Main Menu now share the same background as the Main Menu. There is also a Main Menu button on these sub-screens.
  • Camo blocks that are dropped from overworld combat will now have a randomized color.
  • Optimizations have been added for the friends list.

August 6, 2013

  • Update #107 is now in game.
  • The Blast Rover ride is the latest part of the Combiner Ride.
  • The buttons around the minimap have been moved to a Top Bar in the top, center of the screen.
  • Players may again hide the social UI panel with the Friends button on the Top Bar.
  • The chase camera for battles and the overworld have been adjusted to show more of the horizon and less of the ground.
  • New merchants for Archer, Brawler, and Blacksmith have been added to the world. They will use an interface similar to the farming vending machine.
  • Several fixes have been added for the housing permissions.
  • Optimizations have been added to the rename system.

July 30 - August 1, 2013

  • Because of the upcoming SOE Live, log in between July 30th and August 3rd to receive a SOE Live 2013 T-Shirt. While SOE Live is running, when you wear the shirt, you'll receive a coin boost and run-speed increase. See the support article for more details.
  • The August Member's Pack is available.

July 23, 2013

  • Update #105 was added.
  • A baby pegasus is available for a limited time.
  • There are a number of new Player Studio T-Shirts available.
  • The quest No Pain, No Gain now displays an arrow on the ground that points toward the next race gate.
  • Donovan Shadeweaver no longer implies he's giving you something amazing when completing Favors for Favors.
  • The Job Materials collection nodes should no longer de-spawn after 10 minutes.
  • Keldon no longer animates while encased in ice.
  • The time limit for Ninja: Handle With Care has been increased from 40 seconds to 120.
  • Successfully completing Double Dog Dare now only requires one perfect fruit smash while making Fried Starnut Stick.

  • Another part of the Combiner Ride has been added and it looks like a helicopter.

July 9, 2013

  • Update #104 went live.
  • There's a new Mystery Chest available: the Chest of Wonders. It has Arabian Nights-themed items in it. The clothing items are gender-specific.
  • Some bugs were squashed and improvements made:
    • The collection system has a new and improved layout.
    • Bixies summoned by Lieutenant Buzzuz disappear after 15 seconds to stop them from tormenting the citizens of Sanctuary.
    • The Popular Items on the Welcome Screen have been updated to include the Uncle Sam Outfit, Rumbledome Booster Pack, Cyber Cycle, and Skulls Dress.
    • Placeables, like boomboxes and cakes, should no longer be able to be destroyed by, nor draw the anger of, hostile NPCs.
    • Some issues were fixed with stat calculations on pet buffs.
  • On July 11th, 7-Eleven Day, you can redeem any pre-paid Station Cash card bought there, and receive a bonus SC 500 .

July 3, 2013

  • Update #103 was put in game.
  • Seaside is the newest addition to the Hero Rises journal. There are new quests, new enemies and battles, and new weapons, armor, and housing items!
  • July's member pack has been distributed. It has a special Seaside theme!
  • A new panel has been added to the Welcome Screen to advertise what's in the current monthly member pack.
  • The USA Racer and the Uncle Sam Outfit have returned to the Marketplace for the holiday.
  • On Independence Day, SOE is having a 40% off sale on Station Cash purchased online! If you have already purchased a $15 pre-paid card, you can get in on the sale as well: redeem it on July 4th and get an extra SC 1000 . See our story for more details.
  • There are 2 new achievements:
    • ...And So It Begins: complete the Hero Rises tutorial and earn a character name change certificate.
    • Natural Born Leader: reach level 15 on any job and earn a guild name change certificate.
  • Quite a number of bug fixes and improvements were made:
    • The quest box should now stay minimized after changing activities.
    • Mining and collection nodes no longer have names over them.
    • Items that don't scale based upon level are no longer designated as "New School" and their descriptions have been changed to indicate this as well.
    • The Fireball attack on the Awakened Wizard's Wand of Forbidden Magic should now inflict damage around the target, not the player.
    • NPCs, including pets and monsters, should move around Southern Wilds more intelligently.
    • Running into walls and tree stumps should occur much less often when using the Take Me There feature in the Southern Wilds.
    • The Manguana Statue and Motorsmith Pants can now be crafted by high-level, non-member Blacksmiths. However, non-members still cannot use them.
    • The Robot Woes quest should now work correctly, with robots re-spawning as necessary.
    • Slowreel's Prize Fish now spawns on top of the wood pile in the quest You Can't Steal What's Already Yours. Miles Sourpetal, the quest-giver, has been moved so he's more visible from the road.
    • The Perfect Pour should now complete correctly once you've done the Smelting: Tin minigame.
    • Pointer arrows should, once again, be present for the Biting Back minigame.
    • Several NBA jerseys are no longer incorrectly classified as housing items.
    • Defeating Bristlewood Vultures will, again, properly advance the Fighting is for the Birds quest.
