Vana'diel Bestiary: Ambusher Antlion  

k, here's some detailed information about this NM

first of all, to kill the place holders the location is at E-8 w/ black smoke that does occasionally fade away, but in the small room there's nothing in the room but a rock by the black smoke.

k, here's how you pop the nm, now ppl say its a 21-24 hour lottery, i know for a fact that's false information. to pop this NM, you gotta kill the PLaces holders at E-8 in a small room where nothing is in it by black smoke that occasionally fades away. kill the place holders til they dont appear anymore, respawn for palce holders are 5 mins, once they dont appear anymore after 5 my suggestion is to stay for 2-3 extra minutes just to be sure. once the place holders stop respawning, you need to go out of that room and rest on the cracks just outside of that room around E-8 area to E-9. once you kill the NM or wipe and nm despawns you need to wait about 1hour before you start killing the place holders again

If u wanna know the easiest way to kill this NM over and over again, all u need is a 75 bst. The bst in my ls has gotten this for at least 5 people (including myself), while killing it with ease.

Finally found AA and got my Archer's Jupon last night {/cheer}. I pretty much stayed in the room with the black smoke and killed the Trench antlions that repopped every 5 min for a little over an hour (used my 75 bst since I was alone) until it didn't repop. I then started to try to find nearby cracks that were in the area within the maze and was only able to find 3 which popped trench antlions. By this time it was past 20:00 and undead were out so i gave up for the day and went to sleep.

I decided to try again with a friend (thanks Aldoron :D) the next RL day to attemp to repop AA and went back to the "room" with the black smoke again. I ran over the crack to pop the trench ant that i was killing for an hour the previous day and nothing popped...wtf o.O? We decided to try to find more cracks thinking that AA was still ready to be popped from the previous night. After finding 2 crack that had trenchs we ran over one that we didnt hit before and boom. Ambusher Antlion pops :D.

Now why the trench i was killing for over an hour before didnt pop and if AA was really just sitting there for almost 24hr waiting to be popped? i really dont know. Its probably possible since AA isnt really heavily camped. It was in the area of E-8. sry i cant really be specific because i didnt have map to mark it.

In reply to CyrUrgit's post u mentiond that u were in the room "with the solid smoke wall and 2 tracker antlions in the middle." i'm not sure if thats the "room" mentiond in Riddix's post or if it even makes a differnce. The "room" i was in only had wasnt "big", had black smoke and nothing else, as u enter the room there is a crack that u basically have to walk over that pops a trench. My guess is that once the trench antlions stop repopping every 5 min, AA is just out there somewhere waiting for u in a set spot. ffxi.somepage stated there are 6 spawn points, finding them is just a pain. Drop is 100% for Archer Jupon

Lottery spawn from a certain crack with Trench Antlions, once these placeholders stop spawning, it is b/c the NM is ready to be popped from the cracks within the maze, can only be spawned by /heal.

The location for the PH's is rather difficult to explain. (i'd have to be there to show'ya kind of thing)
I'll do my best.

key ingredient is a map, quest is from port windy.

Citipati spawns in the open area of F-8, once in this open area u'll realize u cannot go north any more b/c of some rocks blocking your path, once u reach this wall, head west but hug the wall (wall should be to ur right of course).
If you keep hugging that wall u will end up in a "room" with a crack in it, the room has a shadow wall to the north yet that shadow wall will never go down, this room is safe to blood agro. Assuming the PH's are up, as soon as u enter this room u will get a Trench Ant to ambush u. They repop every 5 min on the dot. Once u wait about 7-10min and still no pop, NM is ready, yet NM will never pop in that "room".

I've personally killed this NM 6 times and fought him 8, had 2 unfortunete situations.

Where NM will spawn. If you look at the map, u will see that there is a maze of walls surrounding you, as long as u are within this maze, u must check all cracks with /heal, u must not be sneaked or else it will not spawn. Do not check cracks outside the maze b/c this is where EM-T cave antlions will ambush u and they dont play nice. There is a total of about 5 other Trench Antlion spawns within the maze, remember them so u dont run over those cracks again. If a Trench Antlion pops in that are of cracks, the NM will not.

**Problem
NM pop time from killing PH's was always 1-3hrs. After this latest october update, i have been here for over 20hrs on and off and the PH's are still spawning. The update may have changed its regular spawning conditions so take carer, they may have changed it so other trench antlions are the ph's, or that it may no longer have a ph all together.

Hope this helps you guys after this body piece, i'm not even a rng but i know its 2nd best to kosode for dmg.

And as far as what can take it down, a bst with a ant pet can solo, its mandibular bite will always do over 1k dmg, its resistant to sleep and very weak to thunder. its pit ambush hits for 400-600dmg. nin tank and a few dd's, blm, rdm's, mix it up, its not hard but u definetly wanna blink tank. Worst pt i had was me thf, rng, bst/whm main heal and we killed it.

So I was running around with a BST friend trying to get some HQ Antlion jaws...he was pretty far away at the moment, but I could just pop and sleep them (was on my RDM at the time). Until this boyo popped up. 631dmg thru max stoneskin, then another attack and down I go.

He despawned, and we were unable to get him to pop there again. So I'm guessing despawning at the least moves him to a different area, but most likely seems to reset his spawn lottery entirely. We'd hardly killed any trench antlions too, so he was just chilling there waiting for my unsuspecting taru self. I will have revenge!

Been camping this **** all day, been thru E8 - E9 had to have rested on every freaking crack thier was and not once did this damn thing spawn, does anyone have some valid information on this, specifics please!!!

I was exploring Attohwa Canyon for the first time one night as a lvl 50 drk. Everything conned Easy Prey and nothing aggroed. So, I went wandering around thinking I was safe.

Well, all of a sudden this thing bursts from the ground in front of me and beats me to death. It scared the crap outta me. The lights in my room were off and it was 3am. It just stood there after I died and crawled back under the ground.

I actually jumped from my seat for the first time in this game.

If I'm right by what there name is I know how they pop.

These pop by running over cracks up by the Tiamat area without sneak on. They ambush you by poping out of the ground. I have no idea how often they pop.

I know when doing Tiamat I have seen them pop when I was in the add pt running around, almost got killed by one when I ran to wall trying to heal myself, he poped out of the rock. But when I was in the healing pt I didn't see any pop near me, that could have just been because no one was really moving around and we were standing where there were no cracks in the ground.

I think they spawn in other areas also but I could be wrong, I did get attack by 1 also when I was just running around and sneak wore and Tiamat wasn't up so Tiamat has nothing to do with if they will attack you.
