I stole one from the "sacrificial goblet" in uggalepih
Yup. This is stolen from the Sacrificial Goblet (a pot-type mob) in the Temple of Uggalepih. To spawn the Goblet, you have to trade an Uggalepih Whistle to a ??? on I-8 of the second map on this page.
The whistle spawns on the third map of that same page, in a random one of those eight little rooms in G-7 and G-9. It might spawn elsewhere, but this is where I have found it.
The shield it drops is fairly useless, but the THF in our party was very happy with the 100K+ Mana Barrel he got. Mug also scored a couple of thousand gil from it.

reading the description it would make more sense for this to be stolen from a magic pot than a doll.

only doll gizmo's can be stolen from the Manipulator, also it drops hard shield another item in the alchemist craft of Holy Shield. You must obtain Uggalepih Whistle and trade to a (???) and you recieve Mana Barrel. Although more than 3 japanese players have told me this i dont know where to get the whistle^^ if any mistake or am completely of please correct me. Also the trading spot is where the dagger rare/x notorious monster is, in the center of the area (???).

Actually, I believe that Doll Gizmos are stolen from the manipulator... however, I could be mistaken.

It is stolen from the Manipulator. Haven't seen it done myself, but it's apperently the only way to get this item... which is one reason to explain why the Holy Shield is so expensive.

It very much isn't. I brought my THF friend in to try this as I want to make a Holy Shield for myself (and make money on Mana Barrels) but all he got was a Doll Gizmo.
