Having read all post here, I am not putting my hopes at all @ Map # 1.
Just killed 3 Wespe on my way to Map # 2. No drop, as expected.
Soon as I entered coffer map. Hit on the first Wespe and viola!
Don't give up guys! It's not as bad as thought.
Now I have to fight that NM ^_^.

It seems SE might have changed the drop rate with the upcomming release of Dancer and they will main daggers. In last 3 days have been in temple and even 1 point had 3 thiefs all with TH4 killing for over 4hrs and still no drops.
can confirm that its droprate hasn't changed. Went in for about 1.5 hours with TH4 friend and it dropped on Coffer map.

I can confirm that it drops on the map where the gatekeeper are. on the way to den of rancor. anyways. got it after 5-6kills i believe :) gl ya guys

concerning the theory that this doesn't drop on the coffer map, while I can't officially confirm this, it certainly seems to be true. I killed probablys omewhere around 150 bees over there and nothing. Went over to the first map, and got it on 8th bee. GL
About 2 minutes ago this dropped from one of the Wespes on the other side of the gate on the coffer map.
I just came by to confirm its use, so I thought I'd help with the drop.

I drops from all Wespe in the temple. I got one this week in the coffer area, just before the Temple Guardian.

ok, so this is my story..
went out to solo the larvae as 70RDM/THF. Finally got it on my 36th try.
shouted in Whitegate to get someone to help me kill the nm, and got a ??WAR & 75WHM,
we get to spawn point and i popped DFA. In the middle of the fight, i got d/c!
I log back in as soon as i could.....but.....it was too late. DFA was killed and both passed
when i d/c and item was lost. {/cry} I called for GM but told me since i didnt kill i the
NM and since it wasnt the server that disconnected me, he couldnt recover the item.
So i go back and change my sub back to THF and go for round 2 on the larvae.
On my 23rd try, i got the larvae again. Went back to spawn point, but this time
with a 75WHM & 75NIN (different whm). Spawned it, killed it, and lotted.
im now a proud owner of the hornetneedle! XD

Used to spawn Death From Above. Drops Hornetneedle, lvl 48 Dagger.
RDM/THF best combo ever... lol I'm 1/8 on the Bee larvae with this combo.. and 1/1 valkrum emporer as RDM/RNG any way as i was saying... i went to the temple cos i was really bored... no party invites and i did do a bunch of /shouts for ZM8 in jeuno which no one replied to so i came down here.. i faught a few bees near the zone where u enter in from in yhoater jungle.. pulled out my NPC, killed 2 more bees still nothing, then i walked to the DFA room and buffed up etc.. and faught 1 bee, it used Final Sting and i thought it would not drop but guess what, it did!!
lvl 72RDM/36THF btw, so try fighting the bees in the DFA room.. it might help lol.. not proven but hey it worked for me didnt it so what can you lose to try it in there..

Does not drop in Crawler's Nest. Might be why you guys are all like 0 for 300+. Data is wrong.

got it after 400+ Bee's i almost gave up then it drop. My friend killed like 7 and got drop -.- sucks that was damn lucky so we killed it twice and is a damn good and fast dagger RDM/WAR impossible to gauge. =P

Since my THF dinged 54 and I dont want to keep on playing with 2 Bone Knife+1 until god knows when, I decided to try my luck (again) with Wespe's.
Brought my NPC buddy Liabelle along for the ride and went to the Temple of Uglies as 75RDM/THF. In the meanwhile I'd been chatting with a friend of mine, Chinoo, who is 75THF and gives me good tips on levelling the job. He promised to drop by if droprate would totally suck.
Killing Wespe's is easy for me, even final sting usually doesnt go through my stoneskin, but after about 30 kills (and several Tonberries cuz of boredom) I still had no drop. Liabelle already got lvl 40 and decided to leave me alone ; ;
So I was about to message my friend for help, when I spotted a new spawn and thought that I might as well kill it. It droppped!
So I head back to Sandy via the outpost, subbed BLM and contacted Chinoo. We headed towards the spawn, first kinda panicked that it didnt respond and then realized I was targetting the wrong ??? -.-
DFA spawned and we made short work of him. I got my Hornetneedle ^,^
I have to admit though he has strong poison as it ate through my stoneskin. Thank god Chinoo was tanking.

No, it only drops from the Wespe's in the Temple of Uggalepih.

i went down as a 69 pld/rdm soloing them was easy got the drop on my 28th kill yay.
a 75 blm friend came to help with Dfa got it to about 1/2 life when she did -ga ack aggroed everything and we wiped. Now im on kill #52 going to keep trying till i get it. Hope everyone else has better luck.
Ok after 153 bee i give up for thr day worst time i ever had in the game.
In the end it took me 291 bees to get the second larvae something ill never do again for anyreason. Good luck to any one that trys hope you dont have the time i had.

Ouch man 2/291? I went for ZM4, we killed like 5 with TH2 and went 2/5. Get a THF to go with you or something. =/

so i went to the temple as a 72 RDM/NIN to solo some wespes. I fought 10 of them and got my drop, yay! brought my 69 WHM friend figuring we could duo the damn Death from Above. We get in there, start clearing the room of bees, he gets aggroed by tonberries, i'm getting low on life, finally beat them all, rest up (which takes a long time) and get to full health and a bee spawns again. It was in the corner of the little room, so i decided to spawn DfA and pull it to the other corner. Stupid idea. This thing hits fast. and I mean fast. I am a stoneskin master and i couldn't keep up too well. I started to get low and my whm friend was saying "Escape?", "Escape?" and i said "no, not yet, wait until we are doomed" this thing kept using pollen for 1000 (i was hitting it for about 50 each time plus 16 with enblizzard, so with NIN i totalled about 110-140 each attack). Finally, a wespe spawns close to us, linking the other one, so we Escaped. HUGE WASTE considering after i got a THF, PLD, and NIN friend to help me get the larvae. and we killed about 100 wespes and nothing....so i'm camping soloing wespes for the next X amount of days. So, moral of the story, get a full party of sweet people to kill DfA, because getting the larvae can SUCK! good luck to all you larvae hunters.

0/450 give or take 20 over a few days with different ppl, most of the time with TH2, ended up paying a THF 300k to pop it with hers =/

I think I just made the painful discovery that this does not drop off the Wespe on the map in which the coffers spawn. My friend and I killed a tooooon of bees there before and had no drop, and just today I was down there for an hour with a 75 THF killing ~40 of them and had no drop. Then I decided to see if what I thought was right, went back to the first map (the easy entrance from the SE corner of Yhoator) and got the damn larvae on my first kill. RAWR! ><
Edit: Make of this post what you will, not saying it can't drop on the other map but that's sure how it felt. The one I did get the drop on was DFA's map, sooo....
Edit2: Good lord does this thing attack fast! Soloed as a 73 DRG/WHM with a little difficulty, but was kinda fun. I think the poison was vicious but couldn't tell, he was hitting me so often.

Making me feel lucky i got my drop on first kill. And my RDM friends drop on 5th. >.>
6 hours of killing... with 2 THF 45+ in party, still no drop >.> (i know TH doesn't affect rare/ex item's drop rate, but it's still good to have THF for this...)
I'm going to give it another try maybe tomorrow, wish me luck - -;

TH and TH2 effect the drop rate, only difference between TH and TH2 is a 2% difference in drop rate, TH = 10%, TH2 = 12% (theres a thread deep in the THF forums which proves this, i think it was Nynjaaa's thread)
