Last night, doing Genkai 2, killing the three NMs in Xarcabard, I was diseased by the undead hound type NM (I forget the exact name, not really important to this) As 55THF/WAR, I didn't resist getting diseased, but later as we were walking to the next NM, the 73 WHM/SMN I was with used divine seal Viruna to clear us all of it, but my virus had worn off a minute or two before the WHM stopped us to Viruna. I'm not sure about the 75 war or 75 nin that were with me, as I have filters on, but I think their virus had worn off to (or they could have fully resisted I'm not sure).

I'm just posting this to mention that the 'Resist Virus' Trait reduced the ammount of time I stayed diseased from the attack, even though I didn't resist being diseased in the first place. I hadn't ever seen or heard that happen before so I thought I'd mention it.
Explanation.

Virus (AKA Diseased) is a status effect that causes you to be unable to regain HP or MP while healing. Cure, Regen, and Refresh will still work.

This effect is usually caused by breath attacks from Dog, Raptor, and Malboro type enemies.

It's annoying, but not particularly dangerous.

Well, I'm not sure exactly what counts as a virus, but I do know that the white magic spell Viruna does not delete bio (or dia) (yes, I've tried it myself). The only thing I've seen that it actually removes is the Diseased effect you get from dog-type mobs and the like.
Nope.

Virus is a fire elemental status effect, so any spells that count as a virus are Fire elemental.

Also I think dia is a virus spell too

Nope. Dia seems to be in a class of it's own, along the lines of Choke and Shock; more of a negative magical effect than a status effect. I think (not know) that Erase can remove it.

But it's not a typical status effect. The only known resistance to it that I can think of is to strengthen your Light element.
Virus = Bio

Bio is a virus spell not poison.
Virus?

Is virus the same thing as poison, or have I not seen enough nasty spells yet?
