Does anyone know if TH1, -2 or -3 also have any influence too on stuff like crafting, mining etc. I'm kinda confused about armor giving mining+ while mining doesnt seem to have a skill to level up (or am i totally wrong?)
I've gone 3/52 on Dragon Blood with TH3, and 0/40 with TH4.
Another drop which I farm regularly (i.e. daily) goes from 1/3 drop rate on good days, to 1/10 on bad days. I don't want to imagine what the drop rate is w/o TH.
SE has confirmed that TH2 does not effect RARE/EX drops, it only improves regular drops over TH, their statement is that they do not want a Thief to have any advantages over other players, TH2 is good for farming but RARE/EX drops, your a fool to think this improves your chances
I dont think luck nor god have anything to do with the randomizer in FFXI
Well, if you think about everything over all. Rare drops just really all about luck. When I say luck i mean that one person who gets it in the first try. The randomizer is the computer way to put it but still the chances of knowing when its gonna drop is a mystery. The only real way to get a drop is to chase after it. Keep going at it until you get it. Some people get it in one drop and others 1/100. Just a matter on how much you really want the item. TH/TH2 like WildSprite said doesn't do anything with RARE/EX but TH/TH2 helps with regular farming.
Its all about the luck. You can kill anything a thousand times and get ****. Some lucky *** person might run in and get a good drop first kill. TH and TH2 yeah help drop rate but it all just comes down to how much god loves you.
Enter Venting: I hate Treasure Hunter I and II. Period.
When it comes to my THI/II comments come to mind such as:
"Dude, your th blows!" "Think you need to turn on your th2.." "Wanna borrow my character? I'll sub thf so you can have th1" "Just when I thought your th couldn't get any worse." "Did SE fix your th2 yet?" "I'd call a gm and have them check your th2"
Some of these comments were from other fellow thieves.
So suffering through 1.5yrs of th(negative)2 I surrender to SE. you win, my thf fails. Even the addition of the Thief's knife, lucky egg, 4 leaf mandragora bud and a wild rabbit tail... I hate to say it, didn't think it was possible. But my drops have actually reduced further.
So toast to you SE and my THretarded2! You created a potentially kick *** trait, but forgot to turn mine on.
I've observed that i usually get a rare drop the first time i kill a mob and it's nearly impossible to get the same drop afterwards. Anyone else notice this?
ima 63 blm and i wanted to start lvling nin, so i went to giddeus and started killing. I was around 1/4 on yagudo bead necklaces, so i asked my ls if i should train them with aga's or not. they said sub thf and kill solo. So i tried soloing and was around 1/4 on drop just like earlier. So warped, threw on 21 thf as sub and went back. in all i went 84/93 mobs dropped yagudo necklaces. Thats much higher than 1/4
I have heard that if you use your weapon skill fighting a mob with th2 you lower the drop rate... also i have heard that if you use ranged attacks th or th2 will not work as well? are any of these true?
yea, but you can counter act this if you do a voodoo dance while balancing an egg on your nose on the second tuesday of every month from here on out.... oh with a garlic clove in your right pocket, while chanting "Siim Siim Salabeem!"
just playin :p
nobody knows... but more than likely you can do whatever you want, as long as you have enmity your TH is working. That seems to be the consensus.
Check the thf forums for those "theories" the sticky has all the info you could ever want for TH or anything else that is thf for that matter :D
Of course its better! Another ls member was farming wild onions, getting next to nothing (2 in 3 hours). I joined her with my level 45thf... 20 mins, 18 wild onions. Take note, i also carry the 4-leaf mandragora bud and a Wild rabbit tail. I've seen the results... these things are lucky as hell, and not a single person who's seen me in action since has disagreeed. I'm the ls's walking luck machine.
IM confused....it seems, the higher the level you are, the less likely they drop. Im on about basic items...say like a rarab tail outside the gates of windurst. Im a level 32 thief, now, as a level 10 thf, i got more drops here...if i got TH2, woudl i get more basic drops of lower level mobs too? because sometimes i just want to farm crap. Oh yeh, i dont know what your all on about how great TH2 is cos you got yag necklasses in giddius right away...i was only lvl 30 with a 30 RDM and we got a yag neckless every single one we fought....really, and i dont have TH2....i think its just easy to get them there....just SOOO boring...its taken me about an hour and a half to get 80 necklesses...just another 80 to go...sigh (YES IM LAZY)
Ok well the way it works is not only whether you have TH/TH2 but what level you are compared to a monster. The higher level you are compared to a monster does determine the rate at which items drop. TH2 since it is at level 45 is more helpful when fighting higher level monsters, NMs HNMs and so forth because their drop rate isnt as largely reduced because of the level of the person. In the case of the yagudo necklaces, yes just being a lower level may be the way to go, a 15 thf main might have the best time with this, but if you want to go there without having to rest often or train them then having a higher main would be better, so either way it would probably take about the same amount of time.

my buddy and 3 of my friends all have th2. Well if you do the math its like TH6, they allways camp the Valcrum emporer, thf/rng and wow they get the drop SOOOOOOOOOOOO much more then i do when im with other non thfs using my war.... so if you want to get better drops kiddies, then lvl thf. i am hehe, lvl 15 currently
Hello all, there's seems to be a lot of talk and disagreement about what TH really does. I'm not stating this as fact, but put some serious thought to it before you decide to completely discount it.
See the following tables for a made up mob called VendingMachine.
VendingMachine loot table... STEP 1: How many items will drop
Looking at the tables should help you understand the basics behind drops. Based on those tables theres a 50% chance you don't get anything by killing the VendingMachine. What TH and TH2 do is increase the RANGE of % of loot dropping... for example... if TH2 gave you a +20% the table would now look like this...
In this case, the chance you get any loot improved by 10%. Now none of us know the % of improvement on TH or TH2, but it's obvious that the chances of loot dropping is improved in either case. However, what TH does NOT do is improve the QUALITY of the drops... the loot table remains unchanged. So in this case there's still only a 10% chance that the Hi-Ether drops, but with more loot dropping, your chances of getting it improve.
Now lets look at a mob like Juu Duzu the Whirlwind. This mob has a 100% chance of dropping loot. (sometimes junk drops too) But in this case ppl have noticed something... no matter what, he either drops Light Soleas or Hunter's Longbow. Never both, never neither! With this type of mob/loot table TH or TH2 will NOT help. Some people are lucky, and some aren't so there will be ppl who agree and disagree with this wholeheartedly. But in my experience camping him (too amny hours of my life wasted (>.<), I have seen NO difference in the drop rate of the Hunter's Longbow. The same can be said about BCNMs.. they drop X number of items everytime... but some NMs like Jaggedy-Earred Jack don't drop anything at all at times. Given he has quite possibly the worst loot table in the game, TH2 wuold definitely help!
Thoughts on this? Please note, not once did lvl come into this picture as SE has mentioned that lvl (or lvl difference) does NOT affect the chances of loot dropping
even when it's just me and one other thf with TH1 we still get more drops than normal...that is a fact. I have seen it time and time again. I love farming partys ^^

heh... I have am 3 lvls away from having TH2... I like my TH1 so TH2 should make me rich beyond normal non gil-buyers. So far I have noticed these things:
Partyed with another thf 15+ and we got lots more drops in West Sab. Easily got a stack of silks each. Then farmed yag necklaces...was 39/40 in like 25mins and that is with only 4 items equiped.
Crystals drop more and more frequent with two TH's. I was with 2 thf's (always 15+) and we killed easy prey upper orcs in the Outpost, got more crystals. Then we killed 1000armD and the two Stonethrower NM's. Got like 1/2 shield drop 2/3 claws drop 1/1 belt drop. So I would say either we were lucky or 3 TH1's were doin nice for us.
; ; this isn't always a sure fire thing though using more than one TH1...
thf thf mnk hunting the Spook lvls 42 25 46 1/6 Spook drops...and we got 6/9 vokes. So yeah...it dont always seem to work out...still kinda involves luck.
ok i heard the most recent patch changed TH2, i heard its now lvl 53. i dont know if its true.. cuz i still have it and im 52 but the person that told me said if you had it before the patch you still keep it.
I recently got TH2 and i was told that i had to 'train' the ability by killing low level mobs until i get a better drop rate, then moving to a high level area and kill there until i see better results, then return to the low level area again and so on....
Is this for real? i must admit that i didn't see any real difference to begin with. crawlers in rolanberry still didn't want to drop silk.
also, what is this rumour about 4-leaf mandra bud? does it stack with TH + TH2?
P.S. before i got TH2, i was farming marble in yuhtunga. 3 of us started out, all with TH1. half hour no marble. another 3 joined us, 2 who had TH and we got 3 drops in 5 minutes! 3 with TH had to leave and the next 2 we needed took about an hour to get.
The only thing i think gets "trained" is the person's ability to feel the effect of it. When i just got the trait, i was looking at the results drop-by-drop, but these abilities can't be compared in smaller perspectives.
It's the person's high expectations is what makes it seem like the trait doesn't have any effect, once they get over it, they can probably tell the difference better.
I have a question about this ability: Does the Thf have to be involved in the actual killing of the mob, or can he just be in your pt? For example: Go to Garlaige and ask a high lvl thf to join up with you even though he may be behind the third banishing and you're on the basement floor. Will you still get the TH2 effect for drops, or does the Thf have to help kill the mobs? Any info on this would be appreciated. ^^
They have to be in the immediate area. It's kind of like inviting someone to your party in the middle of battle. If they're accross the zone, they wont recieve exp. But, if they're around a couple corners, or on the same level, then they recieve exp, and gil when the mob is defeated. Although, you can lot on items from accross the zone, so I'm not absolutely positive. And, since there's no tangible evidence that TH and TH2 works 100%, you wouldn't be able to prove a theory, being that drop rates are purely random anyhow.
This is not the general consensus on TH. Most of the posts I have read from higher-lvl thfs say you have to be on the hate list of the mob. This means taking an action that would gain at least some enmity from the mob, so you can't simply be in a pt and sit around the corner for TH to work. You have to do something to the mob.
My thf is at 43 right now and I agree with this idea.
i was killing time in valkurm while waiting for my friend so we can get her WHM AF1, so i spent some time camping v.emperor. unfortunately someone else voked it before i could. anyway, there was a thf around at the time and she said like "you need TH2...TH1 doesn't affect rare item drops." is this true? does not having TH2 mean that you wont get the drop EVER? if that's the case, then i pretty much wasted my time on those late nights camping lizzy and emperor =/
TH1 affects all drops according to a SE interview i saw. Even if it didn't, there isn't a zero chance of drops. Some items have a seriously low drop rate though. I heard rabbit charm is like 0.5% drop rate without any kind of treasure hunter.
General Question: Why do I have 'Treasure Hunter II' and not 'Evasion Bonus II'. Is it because 'Treasure Hunter II' is a completely different ability than 'Treasure Hunter', and Evasion Bonus II is just upgraded 'Evasion Bonus'?
Just kinda makes believe that TH2 isn't just improved TH, and the SE interview said that TH does not stack in pt situations, but you do have increased chance of getting a drop because everyone in the party has a chance of getting a drop. This should explain the larger general number of drops in a pt and why when 5 members of my LS camped Mee Deggi we got Ochiudo's Kote on the first kill.
The idea with having multiple people in the party when you NM hunt is that each person on the mob's hate list (this is theory, mind you, but a generally accepted one) has a 'lot' on getting the drop. This is different from lotting on items in a treasure pool, but lets think of it that way. Say to get an item to drop you need to lot a 900 or better. When you only have one person in the party, you only have one person to lot on the item, but when you add someone it, you get more CHANCES. Now as to TH and why people load up on THFs in parties like that is that with TH, it will lower the needed lot to get the item to drop for THEIR LOTS ONLY. I know that can be confusing so here's a 'diagram' for a party of PLD, THF, THF, THF, WHM, DRK (no subs for simplicity's sake). The number under the job is the required lot needed to get the item to drop.
PLD THF THF THF WHM DRK 900 850 850 850 900 850
So if you have 3 THFs in the party, your total chance of getting the drop increases ONLY because EACH THF has an increased chance of lotting that number. Again, this is just a theory and I in no way have any special information from SE, but I've heard this around the forums and from people in my LS and it seems to be the most accurate theory out there.
EDIT: I wrote that whole thing and didn't even answer your question =P. I've HEARD that the reason that they're two seperate abilities is that TH1 affects the droprate on common items and TH2 affects the droprate on rare items (rare drops, not items that you can only have 1 of). This also isn't confirmed (and I think someone from SE said that they both affect droprates for ALL itmes, but I'm not sure). It could be that when SE designed the game, they made TH1 and 2 seperate abilities instead of just enhancing TH1 at 45 and didn't think they needed to change it back when they decided to just enhance abilities like it. Think whatever you want, because SE is generally tight-lipped on stuff like this =P.
Yeah, I got Treasure Hunter II last night and popped off to Windurst to hunt yagudo to get the Ninja Scroll quests in Norg and...wow.
First one I killed dropped 3 feathers, a necklace a scroll of Bind and some gil.
Every subsequent creature (Rarabs: you get those epistles or bar tabs or hides every drop) dropped something. I think there were about 3 of 50 that didn't drop anything.
It's great. I'm in love. And I'm going to farm like there's no tomorrow.
me and a friend went to the beach hunting leaches he had TH i didnt he got a ruby in 30 mins where it took me 6 hrs i gave up and came back with TH and 30 mins i had it..i think it helps on somethings and others well your sol kinda thing....time to get back to the killing..l8tr
Ok, so here's the deal with TH. a lot of speculation, a lot of theory but here is my analysis. (LV74THF/37NIN for credibility. no i dont have thief's knife yet...too lazy to camp that NM) Everything in this game is random. TH1/TH2 affect pretty much all items that you can get. I've herad a lot of talk about TH doens't affect rare/ex items. that's BS in my opinion. It's just that teh drop percentages are so low it doesn't affect it as much. But like i said everything is pretty much random, so its hard to do definitive testing on TH with drops that are rare/ex. Treasure Hunter+1 items do help. Final blow does not affect TH, just more rumor and speculation. but i'm 99% sure it doesn't affect it. I get the same number of drops whether i kill the mob or the rdm i farm with kills it. It seems that TH does in fact stack but its hard to do definitive testing. seems like more drops with more TH though. My friend has a theory that TH doesn't affect the item unless you've seen that item before. makes sense, but when has FFXI been based on common sense? lol well hope that helps. any questions feel free to post here
Hello- I know that most of the info an TH1 and TH2 are really just theory, but does anyone know if there is a serious explanation for these abilities? I have searched the net, and found nothing. Thought maybe one of the game producers/developers may have given some insight or something. Currently I am a 25THF and am 0/9 with Jaggedy-Eared Jack, and 5/25 on the Spook. Am I wasting my time hunting these mons now? Should I wait for TH2 and then hunt? Where are people getting the % drop rate info? THANKS
