Why did it have to be about food! I'm so hungry now, all of that Japanese food looks so delicious. BTW Elmer, were you able to get a Q&A Session in this time around? I keep trying to find out, some one said you did but I haven't heard anything solid on it yet.

I did get to sit down with the Community Team. Don't expect any game-breaking secrets, but I think what they had to say speaks well for the future of the game :)

Looks like something from Resident Evil.

Also SE publicly admitting SAM is over-powered and giving it nothing new to compensate other jobs.

Samurai , compared to most other jobs, is the most versatile and useful across a wide variety of situations. The plan is to maintain its position as a strong attacker, and let other Jobs play catch up on the way to level 99. Also, Samurai may be made more enticing as a Support Job by, for example, lowering the level of Sekkanoki to where it can be subbed.

Elmer, thank you so much for this comprehensive write up. I was watching the vanafest videos and noticing that a lot of the details were omitted from the official site. Great job including everything. I know how tedious translation work can be! Excellent job!

Puppetmaster will get some love in the March update, with the master's Hand-to-Hand skill being raised from C to A. While their offense goes up, the Automaton's defense is set to be boosted as well in an effort to increase their survivability in a fight. In case the Automaton still manages to fall, a reduction to the recast time for Activate is also being considered for farther in the future. Other possible future tweaks include making it easier to heal the Automaton and making the Valoredge more of a match when tanking enemies.

All of the above quotes from part three made me really appriciate the fact that SE is really trying to step up to the plate this time. Also something I feel worth noting...everything from Vanafest was well delivered. All info sent out had nice organized details and timelines. There was nothing what-so-ever of the "Smn will get avatars"...years later...*cricket**cricket*. At least for the time being at this point I feel comfortable doing business with SE again. Lets hope they deliver the goods.

The only thing that I am unhappy with was that Blm was noted as only getting meteor. Don't get me wrong...meteor would be awesome... but I was hoping that Blm would recieve something that would make them desireable to start MB'ing in a party once again. I don't know if anyone would be masocistic enough to solo Blm to 99 on bst pets of some form.

Really does seem SE is giving what people want - NIN is a prime example. SE never wanted NIN to be a tank job but the players made it in to a tank job. And SE is now going to do something (possibly) that gives even more hate control.

Again SE is givng us what we want and admits there they dont want to fight us, they want each job to remain specific and unique while not going mental. I really cant wait!!

Thanks for posting those - been waiting for a proper INFO spot for it all.

One particular thing I noticed was the apparent lack of crafting news. The level cap is going to be raised, but what about crafting? Synergy gets expanded further, but if there are going to be lvl 99 crafted leather armor sets and Gardening furnitures costing 2 million, there probably needs to be higher skills...

The only reason BLMs fell off the bandwagon was because of the popularity of colibri camps and the nasty habbit of reflecting burst spells back. It allowed new party formations though, which was a welcome change for several other jobs.

SE seems to be looking for "strategy over power" in future updates, which seems to imply a return of the good old skillchain-magic burst. BLMs can get off the vulcano and join parties once more!

Elmer,

Excellent work. Thank you for putting all the information together here.

In Elmer's 3rd part - analysis, he did mentioned that craft skill is part of Trial of the Magians.

I think SE needs to clarify this statement or there is going to be a lot of upset players

Quote:
One other addition to the Wings of the Goddess expansion that was announced is Walk of Echoes, an area that will open up to players who make it to the end of the story line. The Walk of Echoes will be connected to some of the final missions and serve as the entrance to all-new high level content. This content will not come in March, but will begin to be released as the level cap is raised. The focus will be similar to Abyssea -- giving elite players a unique battle experience where strategy is the key to survival.

To gain entrance to WoE you need to be on the final missions. That's not a problem as it is just like CoP and Sea. However, since they state that Abyssea's entrance is in Walk of Echos, that would somewhat indicate that in order to enter the new areas, you need to have access to WoE which means completing WoTG missions.

They could however make it so that you can enter a Walk of Echos lobby via the Maws, and if you have WoTG completed, you can venture further in (Portals), or if you have Abyssea you can go to Abyssea via it's own Portal inside Walk of Echos.

Pre ToA areas, soloing BST pets, I was getting better xp than most of the xp parties I've ever been in at those levels. Amplified by the fact that whenever I wanted to, I went out and leveled. Never once did I wait on a party invite or try to organize a specific combination of 5 other jobs to gather at the same location or any of the other time sinks that go into building and maintaining XP parties. I started to feel bad for people that had to xp in parties actually.

Soloing puddings and manaburning in ToA areas is decent xp/hour as well.

I would suspect though, that after BLMs can /rdm, /sch and self refresh/vert/Insert Strategem. You will see them being more viable as party DD's. Which imo is EXACTLY what BLM needed.

In 24 levels, it is very unlikely that Meteor is the only spell/ability blm will get. But the power to be gained from new sub abilities alone could be the catalyst for a paradigm shift.

I don't think that is what that quote is saying. It says that the content will be similar to Abyssea. It does not say that it is the entrance to the expansion areas. The all new high level content could be separate content unique to Walk of Echos. At least that is how I read that.

There is also this information from Elmer's summary about Abyssea that makes me think otherwise:

Quote:
An interesting thing to note is how the adventurers are falling into Abyssea through the maw of Atomos. In addition, the first add-on, "Vision of Abyssea," is called 禁æ–の地アビセア (kindan no chi Abisea). ç¦æ– means "forbidden," and the word is shared with the Japanese name for "Cavernous Maw" i.e. 禁æ–の口 (kindan no kuchi) lit. "forbidden mouth." Perhaps the Cavernous Maws spread across past and present Vana'diel will come to have a second purpose.

I think it will more than likely work as you suggested in the last part of your post. Perhaps you will have to proceed to a certain point in the WotG missions to unlock this aspect of the maws, but I don't think we've seen any info yet to indicate one way or the other.

That was an awesome write up Elmer. You certainly have writing skillz lol. Good stuff in there. I love looking at pics from Tokyo. I'm sure you may be used to it, but i really want to go there someday. Maybe to Tokyo gameshow or something.

I cant' wait to try out the new avatars. They showed a small video of them in use, and Odin took out like 3 mobs, but aggroed an imp lol.
